Do you ever feel unappreciated? The essay we’re reading in book club is from the WordGirls’ collective "Live & Learn: Unexpected Lessons from God's Classroom." The piece is titled "Who Do I Serve?". Author Teresa Janzen is in the author spotlight today. Teresa shares a great story showing one example of sacrificial living on the mission field and the lack of appreciation from the ones she served. When she complained about it to God, she heard God speak to her heart, “You are not here to serve these people. You are here to serve me.” That hit home with me because several times in our full-time ministry God has whispered similar words to my heart. Teresa went on to talk about the attitude of entitlement she struggled with. It reminded me of an article I wrote for ministry women about a condition I coined, "Ministry Entitlement Syndrome." It is a ministry-long struggle to keep in check because we make so many unnoticed sacrifices and it gets hard! This is clergy appreciation month. Let’s extend that appreciation to anyone who has made ministry a sacrificial calling. Teresa’s article is a good reminder to ask God to show us who is making sacrifices to be in ministry in some way, and show them our appreciation. And it's a good reminder for those of us in those ministry positions to remember why we do it! It's not too late to join this virtual book club, ladies! Each week we're giving away great prizes. The Live & Learn book is available on Amazon, from me, or from any of the other authors.
