In hard times, strong hearts shine.

Starting college is like going on a big adventure. It’s full of ups and downs, and while it can be challenging, it’s worth it. In a classroom full of hardworking students, Diane Ricafort's story stands out but feels familiar to many.

"In 2020, when the world was hit hard by a pandemic, I had to stop my studies because we moved to online classes, and I just couldn't keep up," Diane shares, looking back thoughtfully. Her experience isn’t just her own; many students worldwide can relate to it. What makes Diane unique is how she keeps going, even when things get hard. "Stopping my studies was a hard choice, but it led me to learn in different ways in the real world. I started working," she says, a hint of happiness and pride in her voice.

Diane jumped into the working world, taking on temporary jobs in the fast-food sector. "I wasn’t a permanent worker, and I went back to school for my second year," she says. This chapter in her life was marked by her incredible effort to juggle work and school, returning as an irregular student with a different schedule from her classmates. "It was tough to balance everything, but my desire to learn never faded," Diane reflects.

In her third year, Diane is back on track with her classmates. Her financial, emotional, and academic hurdles haven’t slowed her down. Instead, they’ve made her even more vital. "Sometimes I think about going back to work, but I know that school is my main focus," she says firmly, her resolve obvious.

Diane’s story is a powerful example of never giving up, no matter how hard things get. As she prepares for the next semester and beyond, her story is a beacon of hope and a powerful reminder of the importance of education and the strength it takes to keep chasing your dreams, even when obstacles block your way.
Through every challenge and setback, Diane Ricafort shows what it means to be genuinely dedicated—a source of inspiration and a symbol of the unstoppable force of determination in pursuing learning. Her story isn’t just about her; it’s about all of us who face difficulties but keep pushing forward, driven by dreams and the courage to continue no matter what.

Diane’s journey teaches us that even in the darkest times, a student's strong heart can illuminate the path forward, paving the way for others to follow.

In the busy world of college, where dreams are born and futures take shape, there's a tough challenge many don't see—students dealing with financial problems.

"Minsan nagda-dalawang isip ka nalang kung tutuloy ka pang mag-aral, kasi minsan naiisip kong mag-working student or mag-trabaho nalang para makatulong sa pamilya ko," Irish T. Marcos, a determined student studying Hospitality Management (HM) despite having financial instability. Every day, she balances staying in school and helping her family financially. She wonders if she should work while studying or quit to support her family. This choice is common for students like her, who are caught between their dreams and the harsh reality of not having enough money.

When money is a big issue in college, her story shows the struggles that students from low-income families face. College costs a lot, and being poor makes it hard for many students to stay in school.

She hopes that education can also change her and her family's lives. She tells herself that the sacrifices she makes now will lead to a better future. As a student who deals with being poor in college, she's not alone. Many students face similar challenges.

Her story reminds us that with determination, anyone can reach their goals. She works hard and stays strong, showing anyone can overcome tough times. She doesn't let her situation define her.

She's a light in the dark, leading others to follow. With her determination, she's building a brighter future for herself and others like her. She constantly reassures herself, "I always think it's almost over, just a little more patience and I'll finally finish my education. I'll be able to help my family."

The spotlight is enchanting. The journey is inspiring. The triumph is breathtaking. This is the world of Katherine Librando, a symbol of resilience whose story is worth telling over and over.

In the captivating world of beauty pageants, where the lights shine brightly and the crowns glitter, success isn’t solely based on appearance. It also hinges on the poise, intelligence, and unique charisma each contestant brings to the stage. The journey to the crown is a parade of elegance and a testament to the contenders' hard work, dedication, and personal growth. It’s about the hard work and intelligent moves behind the scenes. Katherine Librando is a shining example of this. She’s not just another face in the crowd; she stands out with her unique style and strength. Katherine is known for her excellent makeup skills, lively energy when hosting events, and her proud title as Ms. ALCU-Region 3 1st Runner-Up.

She is all about pushing beyond just winning titles. She’s also about to graduate, showing everyone her journey is about creating a life filled with passion and toughness.

Katherine’s love for makeup and hosting started when she stepped into the world of pageants. “Makeup is very vital in pageantry,” she says, explaining how it began as a need turned into a passion and then into a way of making extra money. Her pageant journey kicked off at 13 when she went to support a classmate at a pageant and ended up being encouraged to join herself. Taking that chance, she found herself among the top 12 finalists in her first competition. This was the beginning, leading her to shine in many more competitions, from school events to more significant regional contests.

Representing her college in pageants was a game-changer for Katherine. It “boosted my self-confidence, honed my public speaking skills, and fostered a deep sense of camaraderie and school spirit within me,” she shares. Her role as Ms. ALCU Region 3 - 1st Runner-Up is not just about the title; it symbolizes years of hard work and a platform to stand up for what she believes in.
Katherine’s commitment to pageantry shines through in her makeup artistry. Her training and style help her connect these two worlds. Just like she prepares for the stage, she uses her skills to bring out the best in her clients, earning positive feedback and finding a balance in her work.

Managing her life as a student, makeup artist, event host, and pageant participant is tough. Yet Katherine had her moment of triumph in a local pageant. Despite feeling nervous, she pushed through and won, proving that she could overcome challenges. With careful planning using diaries and online calendars, she manages her busy schedule, showing her strong commitment and intelligent planning.

Katherine believes, “Falling is not failing because failing is part of success.” This idea highlights the importance of keeping on, even when things get tough.

After graduation, Katherine’s plans include focusing on her career while keeping her love for pageantry alive. She hints at exciting future projects but prefers to keep the details under wraps for now. Her journey is just beginning, and her drive and determination will surely lead her to great places.

Katherine Librando's story stands as a vibrant testament to the power of relentless determination and the luminous success that follows. It serves as an eloquent reminder that the essence of true joy is found not in the destination but in the journey itself—ever advancing, ever exploring. Like a rare gem waiting to be discovered, Katherine's narrative encourages us to persistently chase our dreams, showcasing the unparalleled beauty of steadfastly pursuing our passions. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To be yourself in a world constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." Let Katherine's journey inspire us to embrace our paths with courage, to "dare to live the life we have dreamed for ourselves," in the words of Henry David Thoreau, and to remember that "what lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" (Emerson).

Consistent honor student since elementary days and high school. An academic achiever making her mark in college. Going the extra mile by joining various activities both inside and outside the school. Rising to leadership as the President of the Students’ Academic Guild for English (SAGE) at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM). These accomplishments, impressive at any age, are even more remarkable considering she is just 21. Meet Alyanna Rohi T. Puntilar.

Alyanna is a 21-year-old student pursuing a Bachelor in Secondary Education, majoring in English, at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM). She has been a consistent academic achiever since elementary school and continues to excel in her junior year of college. She also considers her involvement in extracurricular activities an achievement, as she had never participated in them before. Despite doubting her ability to fulfill the role, she managed to become the president of the Students’ Academic Guild for English. “I have not done it before because I believed that I am not for that position,” Alyanna mentioned.

As we all know, behind these successes, there are a lot of disappointments that she encountered. We tend to see the tip of an iceberg without knowing what is underneath or the person had gone through in achieving success. Alyanna shared that she faced numerous disappointments, reaching a point where they seemed to converge all at once— a heartbreak from friends, not being able to be on Dean’s list. However, unlike many who view setbacks negatively, Alyanna sees them as opportunities for growth. She finds that disappointments fuel her determination to improve in the future. She emphasizes the crucial roles of perspective and decision-making in navigating challenging situations. “When I was still a kid, I already learned the quote ‘look on the brighter side’, and I would always remember it every time, especially in difficult situations. When I encountered these disappointments, I decided to control my perspective.”

Her life does not stop when those disappointments and heartaches come saying, “My life is not dependent on those titles, people, and situations. My life is anchored on Jesus, therefore, I can lose everything and still be glad as long as I know that I am doing what He wants me to do.” It is truly an amazing fact that through disappointments, we can master excellence, and the life of Alyanna is a living testament.

“To you, learn to free yourself from the things that hinder you to brighten your world and perspective. There’s more to life than these disappointments! You don’t have to live every day thinking what could have you done just to achieve that thing. We cannot go back to the past, we can just make our present better. Focus on the things that you can control, accept what you cannot.”, she concluded.

“I really believe—and I am able to testify to this—that diligence, review, and practice are never betrayed. As long as you persevere, you can achieve greater heights.” – Janz Jairo Paronable, BSHM 2C

On April 3, 2024, the mother organization of the Teacher Education Program (TEP), Passion Guided Educators Society (PAGES), posted the dean’s list on their page. The posting was followed by organizations from other programs, including the Society of Hotel and Restaurant Professionals (SHARP) of the Hospitality Management Program (HMP) and the Guided Office Administration League of Students (GOALS) of the Office Administration Program. According to the posts, the ranking reached 178, with a student from the Hospitality Management Program securing the top position.

Paronable, a second-year BSHM student, describes achieving the top rank as surreal. He feels immense joy and gratitude for the recognition of his hard work, a testament to the time, dedication, sacrifice, and effort he invested. His key strategy? Setting clear goals. This allows him to visualize his desired future and create an action plan to achieve it.

During the interview, Paronable emphasizes that he's an ordinary student who faces challenges just like everyone else. As the eldest of two siblings, he shoulders the responsibilities of a firstborn. He also acknowledges financial and mental struggles. Yet, he maintains a positive outlook, believing that a clear goal fuels his determination to succeed.

For his fellow students facing similar challenges, Paronable offers valuable advice, that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to time management. He emphasizes the importance of productivity, acknowledging that students have obligations beyond academics. He highlights the importance of being prepared mentally and physically before tackling tasks assigned by instructors. Finally, Paronable stresses the importance of self-belief, believing in dreams, and one's potential to achieve great things. Additionally, he emphasizes the significance of faith and respect for one's parents.

"Never forget to have fun while studying hard!"
There are times when we get too focused on our academics and forget to enjoy ourselves. Fortunately, school events and activities serve as a break from schoolwork and remind us that there's more that we can do inside the school.

School events are extracurricular activities that allow the students to loosen up from academics and have fun with the recreational activities offered by the school or particular organizations within the school. These activities vary depending on the occasion and theme needed to follow. It may be a bazaar, thought-provoking activities, theatrical productions, sports, pageants, etc. However, they share the same purpose—to serve as a halt for the students and concentrate solely on the amusement these events will bring. Given that, these activities will also teach you things: social skills, school engagement, and more. As a PCCMian, I naturally took pleasure in participating! Here are the five activities I enjoyed at our school's events that you will surely enjoy as well:

1. Jeopardy
Would you like a game that will make you nervous and excited simultaneously? Then, jeopardy is for you! I have watched, played, and even won at this activity, finding it incredibly enjoyable. It remains a memorable experience and my personal favorite so far. But what is Jeopardy exactly? It is an interactive game that all interested participants can play. Answer questions, and you will earn points or money in some cases. What makes it more entertaining is that it helps the players review important concepts about anything. Indeed, you should try participating in one as well!

2. Bazaar
What are the events for if we don't have something to munch on? School events would only be complete with a bazaar! It is like a marketplace with small stalls offering various foods and products. The atmosphere is festive, similar to a fiesta, with eye-catching, mouth-watering, and affordable products available for all. Every time Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM) has an event, expect that there will be food everywhere. I once had the opportunity to sell my classmate's product— peanuts. Seeing students and teachers roam around to purchase food they wanted to eat was exciting. While it was challenging to persuade them to buy, the experience of interacting, being chosen, and making sales was fulfilling.
3. Beauty Pageants
Wit, Beauty, Talent, and Competition all in one. School Beauty Pageants are not out on my list as it was fascinating to see individuals compete with each other, sharing these attributes with confidence. Of course, my favorite part is always the Q and A, where the audience will hear what the contestants might say that is deserving of the crown. The last PCCM pageant I attended was so intense because each program had its chosen Mr. and Ms. PCCM, and everyone was cheering and supporting. The experience and supportive atmosphere are gratifying, primarily as the winner represents the Teacher Education Program (TEP), where I belong.

4. Sports
We focus on more than intelligence, food, and beauty in school events. We also have activities showcasing physical, athleticism, competitiveness, and skills— sports have it all! If you are sporty or like watching one, PCCM's sports events are a must-see! We had this activity for the 20th Founding Anniversary of PCCM, and it was unique and thrilling to watch! Bouncing my eyes off between two teams playing volleyball, badminton, or tennis gave me an adrenaline rush. It was exciting, cheering on other students as we could see those athletic students give their all in playing and enjoying while aiming for the prize. In those moments, I am telling you that you will be proud to be a PCCMian! Next time PCCM hosts this activity, try watching one; you will not be disappointed.

5. And many more!
As much as I would like to elaborate, there are many things to mention. For now, this will do. Please remember that these are just some of the activities PCCM has or has had. There's more to see and join from.
Again, the purpose of these activities is not only to refresh the students; they also teach lessons. For instance, you will learn to care about the school, motivating you to participate. It gives you social opportunities to meet others, develop socially, and build longer-lasting relationships. Joining activities aligned with your interests and passions will foster your confidence and initiative to participate more and work hard; this benefits our physical and mental health and MORE. With this, I encourage all the PCCMians to participate in the school's event activities. I guarantee you that you will be amused and will go out of the school with a treasure trove of learning and fun. Remember to have fun while studying hard!

As we conclude this journey through PCCM's event activities, please embrace opportunities for active participation. Get involved, share your skills, and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of events. Every moment spent engaging with others offers a unique lesson in living fully. Step forward, be part of something greater, and discover the joy of contributing to these activities. Leap and make our collective journey through school and life filled with enthusiasm, meaningful encounters, and endless discovery.

Embrace every opportunity to engage in PCCM's vibrant school life — where learning meets joy, friendships blossom, and memories are made to last a lifetime.

Many associate college with late-night study sessions, dream creation, and fulfillment. But what can a one-step opportunity do? Meet Tiphanie Pagsinohan Misolas, a dean’s lister and a scholar at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM). She is an outstanding and hard-working student in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management course and has taken a step toward a new career.

Transitioning from academia to entrepreneurship, Tiphanie’s journey for her business starts with her aunt. “Nagsimula sya dahil sa tita ko. Siya mismo yung may business ng donut. Nagkataon na aalis na yung taong dapat na siya yung gumagawa ng mga donut. Naisip ng tita ko ihinto na lang sana sya, pero nag prisinta ako na ‘Tita ako na lang, susubukan ko’ kaya hinayaan nya ako for almost 1 week na ipractice yung paggawa ng donut and breads,” Tiphanie said. Her steps to the opportunity take place and she grabs it for her future. She starts with scratch until she perfectly makes a donut.

In 2022, amidst a global challenge, the pandemic, Tiphanie started selling her homemade donuts in many flavors. She has taken orders online and even from the locals in the vicinity. But as we know, starting a business will only sometimes bloom, and we must face challenges. “Until yon nga balita na sa TV na mag face to face class, nahinto kami sa paggawa,” Tiphanie explains. However, her homemade donut production has been stopped because of the face-to-face class, and she needs to focus on her studies.

After a period of dedication to her education, after two years, she focused on studying, which helped her gain many skills and experiences as a hotelier, bartender, baker, and cook. Now, with renewed vigor, she then retook the initiative to revive her business, which is homemade donuts. In February 2024, she started her business again and took another step toward success.

It reflects the ambitions and challenges of many aspiring entrepreneurs; Tiphanie’s motto resonates as she advises others: “If may gusto kayong gawin or explore, go niyo lang kasi experience din siya.” and “Try and try until you succeed.” Her advice was for those planning to make a business like her.

Reflecting on the essence of perseverance, in her story, we can remember that every success story began with a single step, often taken with a tremor of fear or uncertainty. Embrace the challenge, learn from setbacks, and never stop trying. The most beautiful flowers usually push through the toughest soil. So go ahead, reach out, and watch your dreams take root!

In Meycauayan's busy streets, there's a story about being strong and wanting to achieve big things, shown by Joyce Alestine Conferido. She's in her third year at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM), studying to get a degree in English Education. Joyce's story shows us how brave you must be to dream and how much you must work to make those dreams come true. Even though it's hard for her to balance school and work, Joyce's story inspires anyone who wants to chase their dreams no matter what.

Joyce says, "Just keep fighting. We'll get through this. We can overcome all this tiredness." While working hard in school, Joyce also works as a coordinator and helps at a local clinic when needed. This shows how dedicated and strong she is when facing tough times.

Joyce balances her job and school to avoid asking her parents for money. "Sometimes, when we have online classes, I sneak out to work, and sometimes there's no class on Fridays," she says, telling us about the tough choices she makes to pay for school and help her family. Through these choices, Joyce wants to show she can be independent and keep going after her dreams, no matter what comes her way.

"Earning money is hard, and spending it is tough when you know how hard you worked for it," Joyce thinks. This shows how much she values hard work and the effort it takes to earn her own money. This view helps inspire her classmates to see how vital determination, giving things up, and hard work are to reach your dreams.

Joyce's story reminds us that dreams can come true with hard work and persistence. Her journey shows that even when you're tired and challenged, there's always a way forward for those who dream and work to make those dreams a reality. As Joyce keeps working towards her goals, she gives hope and motivation to others, showing that "Dreams can come true with determination, sacrifice, and hard work as the way to a better future.”
