Peace & Blessing my name is Faye, my parents emigrated from Jamaica in the 1950’s to a small industrial town called Port Talbot I have nine siblings. I gained my diploma in Higher Education in Youth & Community Studies in 1996 and in 2007a B.A. (Hons) in Community Education. I also work part time for a children’s charity. We have a deep passion for youth & community work believing strongly that it
takes a village (community) to raise a child (African Proverb). Hi, my name is Latifah and I am a mother of three children one young man and twin young ladies. I was born in the island of Grenada the island of Nutmeg and Spice. I was two years old when I came to UK and settled in Cardiff. At the age of 21, I started to study Youth and Community work and qualified as a youth and community worker in 1996. I met Faye in university and we decided to initiate a project in 1994 working with young mums, and senior youth club young women we called the project Women Stepping Out. Our motto “Believe in yourself because only you can make it happen”. We have gone from strength to strength. We concentrate on our African/African Caribbean community we also rise the awareness of Sickle Cell Anaemia and other issues that effect people in the community. We are in the process of expanding the group S.O.N the acronym Sistaz of Nizinga. Tubbs invited us on the radio station as his guests talking about Women Stepping Out, we had a good feel from the vibe on Radio Cardiff and he then asked if we would like a regular slot. How could we refuse to be part of a station that is reaching people in the community? We want to thank Radio Cardiff for making us feel welcome and for giving us an opportunity to communicate with Cardiff in a positive way.
