sister-hood
sister-hood is thriving: thanks to you!
When we started sister-hood one year ago today we never thought it would become the platform that it has evolved into over such a short space of time. sister-hood has gone on to achieve global recognition. None of this would have been possible without you.
Over its first year sister-hood has:
• won the award for ‘Best Website’ at the Asian Media Awards in the UK just five months after its launch;
• several articles have gone on to be discussed on the BBC Asian Network
• been highlighted in The Times, The Mirror, Al Jazeera, Marie Claire France, News Corp Australia, MSN and on BBC Radio and TV programs such as Woman’s Hour, Victoria Derbyshire’s TV show and on BBC World.
• hosted two sister-hood events in Oslo and London
• syndicated a collection of articles from sister-hood to Chime for Change, an organisation co-founded by Beyoncé and Salma Hayek;
• has been used as a source by journalists at CNN about our exclusive article and video exposing the discriminatory treatment of women in Saudi Arabia
• seen one of our contributors, Hala Abdullah perform her poem ‘WOMAN’ at TedxCoventGarden in London;
We just want to say a huge thank you to our contributions and friends for the extraordinary creativity and support that is central to the sister-hood movement. We’re really excited about the coming year and look forward to publishing more articles, poems and artwork, and continuing towards our goal of changing the perception of women of Muslim heritage in public discourse.
On behalf of Deeyah Khan, myself, and the rest of the sister-hood team, thank you. If you would like to share more of your thoughts – you are always welcome. sister-hood is for all of us.
Happy 1st birthday to sister-hood!
