President Maduro has labeled the opposition’s ongoing efforts to reject the CNE’s results as a “coup attempt” led by the US. The dispute sparked protests in many Venezuelan cities last week that has reportedly left over a dozen dead. Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino reported the death of two National Guard members and 106 injured officers. Since then, however, calm appears to have returned to the country’s streets, assuaging fears of a return of violent “guarimba” protests that were common following other electoral contests.

The State Department said the US had not recognized González as president, a departure from a previous position assumed by Secretary Blinken.

A new Wall Street Journal article alleges, once again, that China is spying on the United States through several bases located in Cuba. How much of this is fact and how much of this is a New Cold War panic run amok? This week, Amanda and KJ discuss this story and analyze the nefarious funding sources of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the think tank which produced the report upon which the Wall Street Journal piece was based, the never-ending trope of Chinese “espionage,” and how the New Cold War on China puts regular Chinese Americans in its crosshairs.

Our understanding of China — and U.S.-China relations — has become a defining feature of all global politics. The China Report is a new show produced in collaboration with Pivot to Peace where every week, journalist Amanda Yee and political analyst KJ Noh will be helping you through all the propaganda with an independent view of the country we are taught to hate, but know so little about.

Tucker Carlson Exposes ‘Monstrous’ Injustice in Julian Assange Case

"Anybody who knows anything about that case and believes that Assange should still be in prison is your enemy, by the way, and the enemy of human freedom and flourishing."

Carlson didn't hold back, calling it "monstrous" that Assange spent twelve years locked away for exposing other people's crimes.

"Typically, the guy who discovers the crime doesn’t go to jail. It's the guy who commits the crime that goes to jail, and that's been inverted in his case."

Assange was never charged with a crime in Great Britain, yet he was nearly tortured to death in Belmarsh prison for over five years.

"In the free world, we don’t hold people who haven’t been charged with a crime," which Carlson described as a glaring "abuse of human rights."

"I kept thinking, like, when is Australia gonna send a warship up the Thames to get their guy back?" he wondered. "I mean, what is that?"

72% of people in Argentina say their economic situation has gotten worse since far-right libertarian President Javier Milei came to power, according to a new poll. Over half had to use savings to make ends meet

A majority of Argentines disapprove of Milei

For five years, major corporate media outlets have cited anonymous US government officials to baselessly accuse Russia, China, and/or Cuba of attacking Washington’s spies and diplomats with “pulsed microwave weapons,” “directed-energy arms,” or other exotic technologies that might as well have been lifted from a B science fiction movie.

There was never an iota of evidence for this ridiculous conspiracy theory, which has now totally collapsed, but it spread like wildfire through the mainstream press.

The CIA admitted US spies/diplomats aren't being attacked by foreign adversaries.

If sanctions “don’t work,” if they are economically counterproductive, and if they cause so much suffering and ill will, why impose them? The regrettable answer is that sanctions do “work” for the purposes of the US empire.

In 2015 President Obama declared a “national emergency.” Venezuela, he claimed, posed an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the national security of the US. That was not fake news. The imperial hegemon recognizes the “threat of a good example” posed by a country such as Venezuela. As Ricardo Vaz of Venezuelanalysis observed, Venezuela is “a beacon of hope for the Global South, and Latin America in particular, an affront to US hegemony in its own ‘backyard.’”

Washington’s self-proclaimed “rules-based order” is threatened, especially with the emergence of China as a major world economic power. In the imperial worldview, it is better to have failed states like Libya and Afghanistan than the anathema of a sovereign and socialist Venezuela.

In short, sanctions are a tool to prevent states striving for socialism from succeeding. The US-imposed misery on Venezuela is used by Washington as a cautionary warning of the consequences for a sovereign socialist project in defiance of Yankee domination.

The State Department accused the Venezuelan government of actions that are “inconsistent” with the Barbados agreement, negotiated last October. This accord arranged a prisoner exchange with the US and the issuance of licenses allowing Venezuela to sell some of its own oil and gold. The agreement...

Cold War: The Tech Race tells the story of the war's most influential front: the race for scientific supremacy. It was a war that brought the world to the brink of destruction. But from under the looming threat of mass annihilation came some of our most incredible scientific and engineering achievements.
Across four episodes, we explore how the rise of the nuclear age and its terrible destructive power defined our world. How the massive influx of military funding established and expanded modern scientific disciplines, ushering in a new golden age of science. How our digital age of today can be traced back to the amazing innovations in information technology of the Cold War era. How the weapons each nation developed to assure their destructive supremacy would be turned to achieve one of humanity's finest achievements; the race to space.

Israel’s attack on Gaza provokes revulsion from so many because it seems impossible to rationalise it. It feels like a reversion. It lays bare something primitive and ugly about the West’s behaviour that has been obscured for more than 70 years by a veneer of “progress”, by talk about the primacy of human rights, by the development of international institutions, by the rules of war, by claims of humanitarianism.

The desperate smear campaign to defend Israel’s crimes highlights the toxic brew of lies that’s been underpinning the liberal democratic order for decades

Ultra-right-wing Argentine President Javier Milei on Wednesday presented Congress with a bill declaring the country in a state of “public emergency” and including 664 articles that fundamentally alter the roots of a good part of Argentina’s political, social and economic structure. The “omnibus law,” as it is called due to its scope and variety of topics, involves the transfer to the government of broad legislative powers in economic, financial, social security, fiscal, health and even electoral matters. The bill, which will be handled in extraordinary congressional sessions, also includes a stiffening of sanctions against social protest. Milei proposes that any “intentional and temporary congregation of three or more persons” be considered a demonstration, punishable by up to six years of imprisonment, if it impedes free transit or the provision of public services.

The measure is part of a so-called ‘omnibus law’ containing over 600 articles that would grant legislative powers to the government in economic, fiscal, taxation, and electoral matters

American and European history informs us that the celebration of Christmas was once banned in Britain and the North American colonies. This occurred in the early 17th century. The so-called Puritans in England considered the entire Christmas celebration as repulsively non-Christian. The Puritan Party under Oliver Cromwell in 1642 rendered all Christmas celebrations, religious and secular an anathema, and forbidden by Parliament.

In 1660 at the decline of Puritan rule and the restoration of King Charles II, Christmas observance began to resurface in Britain. The General Court of Massachusetts, however, passed a law in 1659 outlawing Christmas observance. The law was repealed in 1681, but local Christians continued to manifest antagonism toward Christmas festivities. Interestingly, the so-called Puritans were just one small segment of Christians that opposed Christmas. There were other segments that vigorously promoted it.

History (American and European) informs us that the celebration of Christmas was once banned in Britain and the North American colonies.

For most Xians the story of the birth of the Jesus figure is pretty much clear cut; simply turn to the New Testament and there outlined is everything one needed to know about how the saviour, god incarnate came into being. Exactly how Dec 25th came to be the celebrated date may pose a bit of a problem for some but that is hardly a problem worth graying hairs over. After all, the main thing is that "He" was born and he was born to save mankind from eternal damnation.

Well it's that time of year again. Time for all good Americans to focus on what really matters. Not family, community, or world peace, but that national sacrament of late-stage capitalism known as Holiday shopping. Whether you do it online, or drag yourself to the mall amidst the sea of humanity scrapping and fighting for the latest must-have gizmo, rest assured that your actions are vital to the national interest. In fact, the annual consumer bonanza unleashed in the last fiscal quarter is so central to defining life in the U.S. that the economy's strength in the beginning of the following year is literally tied to how much stuff we buy.

US policy in 1948 was to maintain the rich-poor disparity between the US and Asia, a declassified document by George Kennan revealed. But here's the worry: informed US sources confirm that the current, modern day operation to stop the Chinese from buying high level chips is NOT, as claimed, to harm China's military. It's designed to halt development in China generally. In moral terms, this is concerning.
