I have not seen this footage in over 30 years. I have no idea what happened to the final cut that I screened for my filmmaking 101 class… it vanished after the screening (I suspect my female lead may have taken it into the night to avoid her future political aspirations from being ruined).

I was originally going to make a Batman type movie for my initial filmmaking project but Professor Everett Lewis turned down my idea (which I had completely atoryboarded) and screamed at me in his nasally voice “…SEX, Mathey, I want seeeeeex! We need films with less violence and more sex!!!” And since I wanted a good grade, I thought I’d better give him what he wants. It was hard to find a female actor willing to do the role (not so difficult to find a male willing) and I actually ended up casting a fellow filmmaker since none of the actors wanted to. I actually asked her at a Kalapana concert if she would do it (she was from Hawaii and I took her and went with two other friends, Jen Kelly and Jonathan Klein, who almost got out asses beaten by some mokes because I foolishly taught him the phrase “You like beef?” and he thought he would jokingly ask all the guys at the concert if they did).

I didn’t get all the footage I had shot all those years ago (I’m missing the reel where we used the honey bear!) but from the reels I had, I cobbled together this short in tribute to the original. Thank you Lincoln Kupchak for sending me this. It was a grand trip down memory lane and fun to try and edit something together… watch at your own peril. If you are a child of the 80’s, you will know the title is a tribute to a classic film with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger.

A friend found a few reels of film of mine from over 30 years ago from the first short film I ever made. I have not seen the original master since it was screened…
