The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has advised Nigerians to report any policeman who forcefully collects or searches their phones.

Adejobi made this known on his X page on Tuesday.

He wrote, "Report any policeman who forcefully collects and searches your phones or electronic equipment. It's not proper, not professional.

"They can only scrutinise your phone when such is subject to an investigation and already marked exhibit, and such is not done on the road.

"So, any policeman who searches the phone on the road is deviant and violates the order of the IGP and negates our SOP. He should be sanctioned."

(Article via dailymail) The next pandemic, dubbed the 'Big One,' could be 'simmering in the background,' waiting to unleash the most contagious and deadliest diseases known to humanity.

The paramyxovirus family has over 75 viruses, including mumps, measles and respiratory tract infections, and was added to the list of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases' pandemic pathogens to watch in October.

One of the viruses, the Nipah virus, can infect cells with receptors that regulate what gets in or out of cells that line the central nervous system and vital organs.

This variant has a fatality rate of up to 75 percent compared to Covid's, which is well under one percent.

Scientists note that unlike the flu and Covid-19 are 'speedy shape-shifters,' paramyxoviruses appear not to mutate as they spread, but they have become 'very good at transmission among humans.'Just imagine if a paramyxovirus emerged that was as contagious as measles and as deadly as Nipah,' Michael Norris, Ph.D., assistant professor at the University of Toronto, said in a statement.

It is not hard to picture that scenario: the 2011 film Contagion was based on this exact kind of imagined paramyxovirus.

Starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet, a woman returns home from a business trip in Hong Kong and brings back a lethal microbe that triggered a global pandemic - the disease was the Nipah virus.

'Influenza has been sequenced to death,' Benhur Lee, a virologist at Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine, told The Atlantic.

Lee continued to explain that this is not the case for paramyxoviruses because most people infected with one of the more than 75 viruses do not survive, making it nearly impossible to develop treatments and vaccines.

Nationwide strike will commence without notice if fuel pump price is increased again- NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that its members will commence a nationwide strike action without any formal notice to the Federal Government if there is any further increase in the pump price of petrol while the ongoing negotiations are not concluded and palliatives put in place first.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, said this at the ongoing African Alliance of Trade Unions meeting in Abujatoday August 14. While reacting to the advice of the Registrar of Trade Unions on how labour should conduct themselves as they carry out their responsibilities of protecting the interest of workers and Nigerians by extension, Ajaero, pleaded with the Federal government to change “those bad economic policies that make our wages next to nothing.

“As we’re here now. They’re contemplating increasing the pump price of petroleum products. But the Minister of Labor for some time now, will only go to the Minister of Justice to come up with an injunction to hold the hands of labour not to respond. They have started floating ideas of a likely increase in the price of petroleum products.

But let me say this. Nigeria workers will not give any strike notice if we have not addressed the consequences of the last two increases in fuel pump price, and we wake up from asleep to hear that they have tampered with the fuel pump price again.”

The newly-inaugurated service chiefs are: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-General Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.

If there’s going to be a rerun election, it should be between Atiku and I — Pres. Tinubu tells Court

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to justices of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC) in Abuja to exclude the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, and his party in the event of any rerun of the presidential election, upholding that only him and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, are constitutionally qualified to re-contest.

Pres. Tinubu argued that if the justices void the February 25, 2023, presidential election, Obi and his party will not be qualified to re-contest.
But Obi urged the five-member panel of the PREPEC not to subvert the will of the people as expressed in the February 25 presidential election, stressing that they should sack Tinubu without further delay.

President Tinubu’s submissions were contained in his final written address in response to the petition of Obi and the LP challenging his declaration as president.

Recall that the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had on March 1, declared Tinubu the winner of the February 25 presidential election with 8,794,726 votes while Atiku and Obi reportedly scored 6,984,520 votes and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.

While citing alleged issues of substantial non-compliance with the electoral laws, corrupt practices, and non-qualification amongst others, Obi and LP on one hand, as well as Atiku and PDP on the other hand, had in their petitions, asked the court to nullify the election. [continue on next slides]

A d£adly virus is reportedly spreading across Europe, Africa and the Middle East and is feared to soon become the biggest threat to the public.

The virus has been identified as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) broke out in Iraq and Namibia and there have been cases in Spain as well as deaths recorded in Pakistan. An urgent health warning has already been issued in what has been described as the current biggest threat to public health and is feared to be accelerated by climate change. 

The disease is caused by Nairovirus and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), it has a fatality rate of between 10 and 40 percent. 

The virus' symptoms include headaches , high fever, back and joint pain, stomach ache, and vomiting. Red eyes, a flushed face, a red throat, and petechiae (red spots) on the palate are also common.

In severe cases, WHO warns, jaundice, mood swings and sensory perception are encountered. As the illness progresses, large areas of severe bruising, severe nosebleeds, and uncontrolled bleeding at injection sites can be seen, beginning on about the fourth day of illness and lasting for about two weeks.

In documented outbreaks of CCHF, fatality rates in hospitalised patients ranged from nine percent to as high as 50 percent. The long-term effects of CCHF infection have not been studied well enough in survivors to determine whether or not specific complications exist. However, recovery is slow.

According to the WHO, human-to-human transmission can occur resulting from “close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected persons”.

Concerningly, there is currently no vaccine available for either people or animals infected by the disease. CCHF is transmitted to people by either bites from ticks or through contact with infected animal blood or tissues immediately after slaughter.

Hosts of CCHF include a wide range of wild and domestic animals such as cattle, sheep and goats.

According to the WHO, the majority of cases have occurred in people involved in the livestock industry, such as agricultural workers, slaughterhouse workers and veterinarians.

Akpabio elected President of 10th Nigerian Senate

Former Akwa Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio, has been elected the President of the 10th Nigerian Senate. He defeated his closest rival, Abdul-Aziz Yari, former Zamfara state governor.

Akpabio polled a total of 63 votes to defeat Yari who secured 46 votes.

The election took place this morning June 13.

Project refund: I owe you nothing - Tinubu tells Governor Wike

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has rejected the request made by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for a refund for the construction of some federal roads in the state. 

Governor Wike invited Tinubu to his state to commission a road project in the state today, May 3. 

During the commissioning, Governor Wike mentioned that the road project along with many others he has embarked upon is the responsibility of the Federal government and that it will be a good thing if upon assuming office, Tinubu refunds the money used to construct the road to the Rivers state government.

“Unfortunately too, these projects ought to be Federal Government projects because they are federal roads. If we had said because they are Federal Government roads, and we won’t do it. Who are those to suffer? Since we have said we don’t want our people to suffer, I also believe that the Federal Government should say look, you have done well for us. These are projects we should be doing, can you bring your bill, let us refund you the money you have done these roads. That is what it is supposed to be for a partnership with a good Federal Government. I can assure you as you enter the office and you approve to pay this money back, other states will have the courage to also do the same thing. I am not asking what we are not entitled to. The Federal Government should say you are a true son of this government you have removed shame from us.”

However while responding to Governor Wike's request, Tinubu pointed out that he owes the state nothing and that what the government can only do is to lobby him to collect the money back.

“The 12th flyover and the demand you made for refund, I owe you nothing. It is your road. You can’t chuckle at me and make a demand. You are the one living on this road. I commend your effort. You have to lobby me to collect it.” he said

Police have arrested a mum who allegedly hacked her five-year-old son to d£ath with a machete and cooked and ate part of his head.

The arrest was made after the boy's horrified uncle found body parts in buckets at the home in Abu Shalabi, Egypt, local Egyptian media reported.
Officers were shocked when the suspect, Hanaa, confessed that she had eaten part of her son's head because she "wanted him to stay with her forever".

The 29-year-old reportedly killed the terrified boy with four blows to the head before butchering his body in the bathroom.

Then, she allegedly cooked his head and other parts of his flesh in boiling water on the stove before eating them.

After her arrest, she claimed to the police in Faqous, Ash Sharqiyah Governorate, that she "suffers from a mental illness" and had not intended to k!ll her son.

The woman and the victim, Youssef, had been living alone after her separation from her husband, who insists that she knew exactly what she was doing.

The ex-husband, known only as H.A., told local media: "When I arrived, the police prevented me from seeing my son because of the horrific scene."

He explained: "We separated from each other four years ago because she had land from her father and asked me to leave the house and my family and go with her to live on the land.

"But I refused, and the relationship ended entirely by her will, and I tried to reconcile with her after the divorce, but she refused and stuck to her opinion."

H.A. added: "My son was the one who kept me connected to her, and I used to see him regularly and bring him clothes and things he needed.

"But recently, she was trying to keep him away from me and plant hatred towards me in his heart, so he wouldn't come to me.

"I was trying to communicate with her family to see my son and make sure he was okay."

According to his lawyer, Samir Mohamed Saleh, the suspect was stone-faced when she told her questioners: "I wanted to free him and myself.

"I wanted to take revenge against his father and be free. His father keeps coming and trying to take him away all the time."
