It is one the most beautiful vineyards in Uruguay and home to some excellent Tannat and Pinot Noir, and now this precise and juicy Chardonnay. Supple yellow fruit is meddled with a touch of white pepper and spice, and a juicy acidity and taut finish 🙌🇺🇾

📍🇦🇷 Buenos Aires | The vines of Buenos Aires keep growing… and this little number from is a worthy addition 😋🍷

Just north of Buenos Aires proper, in the countryside region of Campana lies this 5 hectare vineyard, near to the Paraná river.

The wines are small in production, but sell out fast in their thriving restaurant by - fortunately I got to try this little stowaway from Ed’s own stash… earthy, fresh and with a fine spine of tannin that makes it stand up nicely to a juicy piece of lean meat.

Keep your eyes on the growing wine scene in the eastern provinces of Argentina… they are clearly here to stay 🌎

📍🇺🇾 Canelones | These roses play an integral part in the vineyard… do you know why? 🤓

Apart from looking pretty, the roses are planted at the beginning of the vine row to act as an early indicator of any kind of disease (they are a little more delicate than the vines and show any impact first). When they bloom it is also a sure sign that summer is on its way, and this beautiful yellow rose planted by 50-year-old Tannat vines is one of our favourite to see as the summer arrives!

Winemaker sent us this beautiful photo from the heart of Canelones in Uruguay and told us that even though there was some heavy rains this spring, the vineyard is looking good for the year to come. Bring on 💪

The Schwaderer sisters make some great wines and this old vine Semillon from Maule made in traditional method is one of them - with notes of honeyed peach, biscuits & brioche and a long, aromatic finish 🙌

This is a rather special Sauvignon Blanc from the Andes mountains in Maule, with mouthwatering acidity and notes of wild herbs and lemon zest, it’s a perfect match for Chilean oysters 🙌 🇨🇱

Our beautiful Andes ❤️ 🌎

Did you know that the Andes are the world’s longest continental mountain range? They run 8,900 km from north to south of South America passing through Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.

There are so many places to visit and things to experience within the folds of the Andes… capital cities, small towns, amazing landscapes, rich and diverse cultures, altiplano ingredients and cuisines, and almost a hundred native languages…

Not only does the Andes give us all of that, but also the necessary snowmelt and rainfall for the wine regions of Argentina and Chile 🙌🍷

120+ wines in two days… Muito obrigada to all the wineries that gave us an incredible opportunity to taste so many of Brazil’s wines & regions with this special tasting organised by .flavio 🙌🇧🇷🍷

I have no doubt how much effort it took to get all these wines in one place, and am very grateful to Flavio for generously and bravely organising everything and to all the vinicolas & winemakers for sending wines to gather a fascinating panorama of Brazilian wine in 2023. We tasted wines from many regions of Serra Gaucha, as well as Campanha, Serra do Sudeste, Campos de Cima da Serra, Paraná, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Bahía & Santa Catarina… a fascinating tour of the wine regions and huge diversity of producers both large and small, traditional and innovative, wild and wonderful. I am definitely leaving Brazil inspired and excited by what I have tasted, and can’t wait to share some of these gems in the new edition of the South America Wine Guide next year ☺️🍷

Dirt… the composition of the soil in a humid region like Serra Gaucha is key. For drainage mostly, but also - in the recent dry years - some water retention is also essential in these dry farmed regions. This basaltic subsoil is what allows vineyards here to thrive. We’ll be posting an interview about soils later, but in the meantime, a portrait of the soils in Pinto Bandeira 🙌🥂🇧🇷

A beautiful Campanha winter’s day 🍷🇧🇷
The enthusiasm and professionalism of & her family & team here is impressive with a solid commitment to solar energy, sustainability & upmost quality. It shines through in the wines - from the sophisticated Épico red blend and delicate bubblies, to the elegant new orange wine of Chardonnay aged in amphora & juicy whole bunch Pinot Noir. Definitely a highlight in and well worth visiting on a Saturday for the charming garden picnic 😋🥂

What a pleasure to kick off a 12 day road trip in Rio Grande do Sul trying the juicy, fresh wines of local producer 🙌🍷
Eduardo and Simone make a really delightful portfolio of artisanal wines with bright acidity, fine tannins and fragrant fruit balance. From the juicy Muros Velhos Mourvèdre to the deep Diana rose and the more structured yet still fresh Luca blend of Caladoc, Malbec & Marselan, this was a really nice surprise & start to the trip. Can’t wait to explore more!

Rutini’s Antología blends really are quite special wines… unique blends that winemaker describes as ‘unrepeatable’, each edition is entirely different to a previous one.
The current release, #51 (or LI), is extraordinary - a blend of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay & Viognier from the 2017 vintage… unorthodox but utterly delicious. Elegant, fine and with savoury nuance from time in bottle.
I love the philosophy and style of these these wines, experimental yet classic 🙌🍷
It was delicious with steak earlier in the week, but just as delightful with pastrami for a fancy late lunch 😋

This old vine Semillon from Maule is an absolute steal…

Packing lots of personality for under £10 (at in the UK), the zesty acidity is matched by some honeyed weight in the palate and a delightful touch of salinity of the finish. Ideal for buttery grilled oysters on a casual Monday 😝

And yes, Flavio the flamingo is currently swimming in my glass 🦩🍷

This stunning shot is of Zuccardi’s new vineyard high in Gualtallary Monasterio. At 1,380 metres above sea level, it is not only high altitude but it has a fascinating story behind its plantation - with all the vines head trained and planted in small parcels.
