Maybe just stuck in the middle of a project. We have all been there and we will all end up there at some point..... Where do we go next? Well the obvious direction is forward - at least, that's where we are aiming. In the case of music production it can often be that we need to draw that line under the project, call it finished (or abandoned) and move on to the next one!

This is part one in a series of blog posts titled faders come down from zero looking at ways to improve your use of music production tools at your disposal, looking more towards how you handle your projects from a work flow point of view rather than a look at specific equipment.

So lets get away from the easy fix

Quite often is the case that we feel that what is missing from the project is the latest item we have seen advertised. This is the aim of the advert after all. If you are already making music, chances are you have enough in your daw's arsenal to finish the track you have started.

I originally wrote this article in October 2014, but with the exception of named / numbered devices and software versions, everything spoken about is still completely relevant. At the time of writing I was using an iPhone 5 (iOS8), iPad (iOS7.1.2) and Macbook Pro 2014 (OSX 10.9.5) using iCloud notes. At the time of editing I was using an iPhone 15 (iOS17.5.1) and a Mac Mini M2 (OS 14.5). Each part of how I use the technology is balanced at a level that allows me to complete the tasks that I have to complete and deliver.

We all want to stay as current and close to the newest state of the art software and hardware, with the continual release of new bits of equipment and the operating systems they run, this has never been more apparent. With the syntonisation of all our mail, phone calls, messages, website reading and app usage, the power is being given to the users of the latest software to keep their lives ticking over with seamless integration between platforms.
