From Donetsk reports are coming of a strike at Bakinskie Komissary square in Donetsk Kuybyshevskiy district which killed 13 civilians, including 2 children and wounded, at least, 5 more. There are also reports that 3 civilians were killed at the strike at the "Sokol" market in Donetsk Kirovsky district.

The video footage coming from the impact sites is horrific. I am not the one who "instrumentalizes" horror for media goals. Therefore, all the available footage is being sent to the attention of the UN Human Rights Monitoring mission.

Oleg Melnikov, born 1991, the leader of the Alternative, which is the Russian public movement against modern slavery, is still missing after he together with another colleague of his entered Ukraine's Kharkov region with humanitarian aid. I talked to a member of Alternativa movement who told that Oleg had been in communication with them on September 8. They were in Kupyansk that time distributing clothes and medicines among civilians. The organisation managed to find and reach another man who saw Oleg and his friend leaving Kupyansk early morning of September 8. This witness had left the area a few hours after Oleg and his friend and he arrived in Russia safely.
The purpose of Alternativa is the liberation of people from various types of modern slavery. Over the entire period since 2011 more than 1500 people were released. Some 2400 people safely home with the help of the Alternativa.
The report on Oleg and his colleague missing has been sent to the attention of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.

Out of the billions of dollars in weapons the White House has shipped to Ukraine since the Russian invasion, perhaps none have attracted as much attention as the M142 HIMARS, an advanced rocket launcher that Ukrainian troops have used to devastating effect.

HIMARS, short for High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, is a five-ton truck that can fire long-range guided rockets. The Pentagon announced it was sending the first of four launchers to Kyiv, Ukraine, at the beginning of June, about six weeks after it started providing 155-millimeter howitzers and ammunition.

Since then, the United States has sent Kyiv a total of 126 such howitzers and authorized shipments of up to 807,000 rounds of ammunition for them to fire.

Ukraine now has 26 advanced mobile launchers that can fire rockets even farther than those howitzers can — 16 HIMARS vehicles from the United States and 10 older American-made M270 launchers that Britain and Germany provided.

The Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System can hit targets 50 miles away with 200 pounds of explosives.

Ukrainian media report on the consequences to the "humanitarian fair" in Chernihiv on September 3rd when a territorial defence unit put charged fi****ms on display as part of an "interactive show". That day children were allowed to touch and hold ammunition. A boy, as a result, fired an antitank gr***de launcher causing multiple injuries among both children and adults. A 2-year-old Roma was sitting in his stroller. He got multiple face splinter injuries and as of now is still in induced medical sleep.

Among the injured are eight children from 2 to 12 years old, six civilian adults and one military man, he is currently in a military hospital. A two-year-old boy received the most severe injuries. His mother is wounded too.

Roma's uncle, Ivan Bozhko, told journalists, "From what I noticed, in addition to handguns, assault rifles, and rifles, there were RPGs. My little one and I went to the table and I saw a boy holding a gr***de launcher on his shoulder."

Polina Gladkikh, a girl who dreamt to dance, today has undergone the fourth surgery. After her severe injuries caused by shelling, she had her leg and her arm amputated.
Her mother Olga today told me at around 9 am that Polina was in surgery room yet another time. The reason is another aneurysm in the "healthy" leg which was damaged by a splinter which went through. It damaged veins which are now affected by aneurysms. Olga told me, "Doctors are assuring me that the situation is not too bad. But I understand that aneurysms are very dangerous". At around 8.30 pm Olga told me that Polina is stable but her mother is afraid to hope.

WSJ: an estimated 70,000 people took to the streets of Prague on Saturday in protest against the Czech government, calling on the ruling coalition to do more to curb energy prices and voicing opposition to the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

WSJ describes the organisers of the rally as "far-right and fringe political groups". The demonstration called for the Central European nation to be militarily neutral and ensure direct contracts with gas suppliers, including Russia.

Alfred de Zayas, a law professor at the Geneva School of Diplomacy who served as a UN Independent Expert on International Order 2012-18, is calling to revive FDR’s four freedoms.

with regard to the ongoing war on Ukraine and for Ukraine, Pr,de Zayas writes, "It is the tragedy of the post-World War I generations that the noble principles contained in President Woodrow Wilson’s 14 Points, were flouted in the Treaties of Versailles, St. Germain and Trianon, leading directly to World War II. It is the tragedy of the post World War II generations that the goals proclaimed in the Four Freedoms and in the Atlantic Charter were abandoned. It is the tragedy of our post-Soviet Union generation that our leaders did not keep their 1989-91 promises to Mikhail Gorbachev and deliberately chose the path of provocation and NATO expansionism, resulting in the tensions leading to Russia’s illegal aggression against Ukraine and the proxy war being fought by NATO against Russia – till the last Ukrainian. Why did our leaders not heed the advice of George F. Kennan, Jack Matlock, Richard Falk, Jeffrey Sachs, John Mearsheimer and Henry Kissinger?"

The most important event of today is the final arrival of the inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency at the troubled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to assess damage and establish safety and security conditions. It has happened despite the reported attempts to seize the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant by the Ukrainian side "measures taken" to destroy the opposing troops, including use of Russian military aviation. Russia also accuses Ukraine of shelling both the meeting point of the IAEA delegation, and the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia plant itself. Reuters reported IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and fellow officials negotiating access to Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant with Ukrainian military. The Russian side claims full destruction of two barges with Ukrainian military personnel which tried to cross the river from the side of Nikopol at around 7 am as well as armed clashes with another group which tried to land near the station arriving in seven river boats at around 6 am.

The Italian Corriere has revealed a story of President Zelensky's four-million-euro villa located in the Vittoria Apuana district on the border between the towns of Forte dei Marmi and the province of Massa Carrara not far from the summer residence of Andrea Bocelli. According to the local sources of the newspaper, the villa was reportedly rented out (this summer) to Russians with the citizenship of the UK. The newspaper is asking how it matches with Zelensky's appeal to Europe, including Italy, not to welcome Russian tourists and rent them houses and yachts. The rent is 50 000 euro per month. As of now, the villa is free to be rented out.

Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs: The overwrought fear of China and Russia is sold to a Western public through manipulation of the facts. A generation earlier George W. Bush, Jr. sold the public on the idea that America’s greatest threat was Islamic fundamentalism, without mentioning that it was the CIA, with Saudi Arabia and other countries, that had created, funded, and deployed the jihadists in Afghanistan, Syria, and elsewhere to fight America’s wars...

The Western narrative about the Ukraine war is that it is an unprovoked attack by Putin in the quest to recreate the Russian empire. Yet the real history starts with the Western promise to Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev that NATO would not enlarge to the East, followed by four waves of NATO aggrandizement: in 1999, incorporating three Central European countries; in 2004, incorporating 7 more, including in the Black Sea and Baltic States; in 2008, committing to enlarge to Ukraine and Georgia; and in 2022, inviting four Asia-Pacific leaders to NATO to take aim at China.

Nor do the Western media mention the US role in the 2014 overthrow of Ukraine’s pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych; the failure of the Governments of France and Germany, guarantors of the Minsk II agreement, to press Ukraine to carry out its commitments; the vast US armaments sent to Ukraine during the Trump and Biden Administrations in the lead-up to war; nor the refusal of the US to negotiate with Putin over NATO enlargement to Ukraine.

Jeffrey Sachs is a professor at Columbia University, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. He has served as adviser to three UN Secretaries-General, and currently serves as an SDG Advocate under Secretary-General António Guterres.

Fiona Hill and Angela Stent confirm citing "multiple former senior U.S. officials" that Russia & Ukraine agreed in April on a peace deal framework of Russia withdrawing to pre-war positions & Ukraine promising not to seek NATO membership. They omit that the deal was stopped by the British prime-minister who told Zelensky not to do any such peace deals: "According to multiple former senior U.S. officials we spoke with, in April 2022, Russian and Ukrainian negotiators appeared to have tentatively agreed on the outlines of a negotiated interim settlement: Russia would withdraw to its position on February 23, when it controlled part of the Donbas region and all of Crimea, and in exchange, Ukraine would promise not to seek NATO membership and instead receive security guarantees from a number of countries."

Alexander Baunov on visas and collective punishment. He is a Russian international policy expert, journalist, publicist, philologist, and former diplomat. He was editor-in-chief of the Carnegie Moscow Center until Russian government's decision to close Moscow center.
He states in the interview, "suspension of tourist visas is a highly irrational, even to some extent populist, debate, launched at a time when prudence should have set in and reactions to Russia's actions should be increasingly precise and rational. I always had the impression that the famous words „Never again!“ were directed not only against the return of war in Europe but also against locking people out in an aggressive, unpredictable dictatorship that could abruptly change the rules of the game at any moment and start looking for new victims. This is exactly the kind of regime that Russia has degenerated into after February 24th, and in some respects, even earlier, and it is this kind of regime that some EU politicians are proposing not only to lock people up in, but even to deport people to. This goes against all the experience Europe gained from the two world wars of the 20th century; the Spanish Civil War; the Cold War; the wars in Yugoslavia and the Middle East, which in many ways formed the basis of modern European values. When homosexuals were brutally persecuted in Chechnya, no one said „ they should not complain and rather go and overthrow Kadyrov and Putin“.

JPMorgan has concluded Russia's economy has held up under the weight of tough sanctions.
Russia still exports 7.4 million barrels of its oil each day, according to Bloomberg data for July.
Europe has yet failed to wean itself off of Russian crude. The EU still brings in 2.8 million barrels a day, according to Bloomberg data. That's just a 30% drop from February's 4 million barrels a day.
Russia's composite PMI has risen back into growth territory.
The index climbed to 44.4 in April, rose above 50 in June, and hit 52.2 last month. That last reading means Russia's economic health is blooming -—a far cry from the predictions of doom made on Wall Street.

Mr.Kissinger sees today’s world as verging on a dangerous disequilibrium. “We are at the edge of war with Russia and China on issues which we partly created, without any concept of how this is going to end or what it’s supposed to lead to,” he says. Could the U.S. manage the two adversaries by triangulating between them, as during the Nixon years? He offers no simple prescription. “You can’t just now say we’re going to split them off and turn them against each other. All you can do is not to accelerate the tensions and to create options, and for that you have to have some purpose.”

Kissinger courted controversy earlier this year by suggesting that incautious policies on the part of the U.S. and NATO may have touched off the crisis in Ukraine. He sees no choice but to take Vladimir Putin’s stated security concerns seriously and believes that it was a mistake for NATO to signal to Ukraine that it might eventually join the alliance: “I thought that Poland—all the traditional Western countries that have been part of Western history—were logical members of NATO,” he says. But Ukraine, in his view, is a collection of territories once appended to Russia, which Russians see as their own, even though “some Ukrainians” do not. Stability would be better served by its acting as a buffer between Russia and the West: “I was in favor of the full independence of Ukraine, but I thought its best role was something like Finland.”

... For months, they lay in wait in occupied territory — trained operatives, awaiting instructions from Kyiv.

Their Russian opponents hunted for them, looking for tattoos that would identify Ukrainian men as ex-military, and scouring lists — compiled with the help of local collaborators — of potential leaders in the Ukrainian resistance.

Many were caught, but those that survived are now part of a new strategy for the outgunned and outmanned Ukrainian military. With a stalemate on the front line that stretches across the country, Kyiv is trying to reach behind it into territory held by Moscow to “knock at least [a] few teeth out of the Russian bite”, according to one Ukrainian official...

The Ukrainian efforts sometimes yield little.

In the north, civilian drones search out Russian artillery units. But successful hits are rare, the second official said, and Russian armaments have continued to target Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.

And more interesting details, including of UK trainers for such operatives...
