The brand-new Milano, which Alfa Romeo is preparing to unveil next year, is expected to be the company's first "Sport Urban Vehicle." It will complete the Italian brand's lineup with a crossover-focused model, joining the Tonale and Stelvio.

But even if more people are choosing SUVs, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato stated in a recent interview that the company does not intend to become an SUV brand.

The CEO went on to tell Autocar that because aerodynamics and electrification go hand in hand, sedans are ready for a resurgence. "You'll have a Giulia in the Alfa Romeo range, and moreover, we're working on the next steps: what's the answer to the GTV and what could be the Duetto?" he explained.

Although Imparato issued an alert that nothing is "locked and validated for the moment," it seems that the coupe and roadster might be brought back. Given that Alfa Romeo announced in 2018 that the GTV will return with a torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system and more than 600 horsepower (447 kW / 608 PS), that was certainly a smart move.

The GTV never materialised, as did many other FCA-era concepts. The next year, it was abruptly discontinued along with its 8C replacement.

Returning to the updated Giulia and Stelvio, Imparato said that the design work on both cars is over, and the Cassino facility is getting ready to produce them. Although the executive has previously stated the Giulia could merge aspects of sedans and wagons, nothing is known about the impending EVs.

Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept
Designed by Bertone and unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the Pandion was Alfa Romeo’s 100th birthday present to itself, and what a gift it was! With a theoretical top speed that scraped 200 mph and a 4.7-litre V8 borrowed from the 8C Competizione upon which it was based, the Pandion ticked all the supercar boxes, and then there was the design. The batmobile-esque rear is pretty impressive, but this car’s real party piece is its transparent doors, which stretch from the front to rear wheels and open 90 degrees backwards.

Jodie Kidd-owned Ferrari 550M WSR for sale

With the introduction of the 550 Maranello in 1997, Ferrari returned to its custom of building front-engined V12 sports cars, reviving a style that had remained dormant since the demise of the 365GTB/4 'Daytona' in 1974. The 550 Maranello's 48-valve, 5.5-litre V12 developed 485bhp at 7,000rpm, some 100-or-so horsepower more than the Daytona's. Ferrari had discovered that providing optimum balance in a front-engined sports car necessitated the use of a rear transaxle, and the Maranello's came with six speeds. The power train was contained in a tubular steel chassis, to which was attached aluminium coachwork, while the all-independent suspension incorporated dual-mode (normal/sports) damping, switch-selectable by the driver, which was complemented by speed-sensitive power-assisted steering.
Looking to cement the new 550 Maranello’s performance credentials, Ferrari took a lightly modified 550 to the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, Ohio, in October 1998 and broke three records; 100 miles at an average speed of 190.2 mph, one hour at an average speed of 184 mph and 100 km at 188.9 mph. To celebrate their achievement, Ferrari created a limited-edition run of uniquely equipped 550 Maranellos. Each example was equipped with the Fiorano handling pack, a leather trimmed roll cage, an Alcantara steering wheel and carbon bucket seats with four-point race harnesses. Dubbed the 550 Maranello WSR, for ‘World Speed Record’, 33 examples were built worldwide, with just 10 being delivered to the United Kingdom in RHD.
The WSR offered for sale was supplied new via Gelvarigill Ferrari of Edinburgh in March, 2000. It is finished (as are the majority of WSRs) in Grigio Titanio over a Bordeaux Leather interior with Bordeaux carpets. In 2004, it was purchased by British supermodel and automotive aficionado Jodie Kidd who cherished it for 7 years and has since described it as the car she most regrets selling!
The car was sold to its current owner in 2011 and has been used sparingly since, forming part of a Ferrari collection in the U.K. It has been well maintained over its life with 15 service stamps all from main dealer Ferrari agents. It was most recently serviced in May, 2023 where HR Owen South London carried out a major service including cambelts, fitted a new battery, and replaced all four tyres.
The ultimate edition of the 550 Maranello, Ferrari’s last front engine all-manual transmission GT car. This rare RHD example would make a fantastic addition to any Ferrari or modern performance car collection.

Abarth 595 - 60 years of the “small, but wicked”

Sixty years ago, in September 1963, Carlo Abarth unveiled the Fiat-Abarth 595 to the world. Based on the Fiat 500 D, a model that had been increasingly more successful since 1961, the new Fiat-Abarth 595 took its name from its displacement, which had been increased thanks to work on its cylinders and pistons and their completely new materials.

It differed from the Fiat 500 D on the outside with its eye-catching 850TC-type perforated front grille, the shiny metal "Fiat Abarth 595" lettering on the rear and hood, and the proud "World Champion" inscription on the right side, which referred to the many records held by the creations of the Officine di Corso Marche. The model’s racing spirit was further emphasized by the oversized aluminum oil pan that protruded under the rear fascia and, above all, the "Record Monza"-type dual-exit sports muffler. The result was a small but particularly aggressive and even noisy car that was loaded with 30% more power than its original version, 27hp at 5,000 rpm and a peak speed of 120 km.

Essentially, Abarth took a successful city car, the 500D, and made it a successful high-performance car. That’s the same recipe that Abarth has applied over recent months to create the New Abarth 500e, which was born out of the successful Fiat New 500 electric—the most sold electric city car in Europe.

One month later, on October 31st, 1963, the 595 was presented to the public at the Turin Motor Show. Abarth, a great business and motoring expert, decided to stand out from the crowd by offering the visitors crowding the halls of the Turin exposition a coupon for a test drive of the new release. The initiative was so successful that Carlo Abarth declared that the first 1,000 Fiat-Abarth 595 cars destined for racing homologation would soon be produced.

As a natural evolution of the 595, Carlo Abarth presented the Fiat-Abarth 695 at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1964, following the concept of a technical upgrade which soon became a pillar of Abarth tradition. Later on, the phenomenon of transformation kits allowed the main Abarth improvements to be carried onto Fiat production cars, transforming them both mechanically and aesthetically.

The brand’s values of performance and style promoted by these progenitors are now an integral part of the heritage of the Abarth range, which, in addition to the New Abarth 500e, includes the 165-hp Abarth 595 and an even more performing 180-hp Abarth 695. Both models offer thrilling performance, a roaring exhaust, and a playful, yet bold, style.

Today, the success of both models confirms that, even after sixty years, the values Carlo Abarth infused into his creations are still extremely relevant and alive in the souls of fans of the Scorpion brand.

Ferrari CEO In A Spin Over Brand’s First EV - Loves It!

Ferrari Boss has taken it's debut Electric model prototype for a spin with the Supercar maker having already selected it's battery cell from a strategic supplier, CEO Benedetto Vigna saying ‘It’s going to be a true Ferrari’

We’ve known for a while now that Ferrari plans to launch its first all-electric model in 2025, and recent reports suggest the model is well on its way. The brand’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has already taken a prototype of the car for a spin, and “liked it a lot.”

The new CEO revealed that he had driven the car in an interview with Bloomberg Television, which is embedded below. Unfortunately, the EV remains mysterious, as Vigna declined to share more details about the model.

Vigna did say that the brand has a very deliberate process for vehicle development that takes several quarters. However, we know that Ferrari has the capacity to build EVs today, having recently completed work on its “e-building,” which will produce fully electric vehicles alongside hybrids like the 296 GTB.

Indeed, Ferrari has laid out a plan to slowly reduce the proportion of internal combustion vehicles it produces. It intends for electrified vehicles to make up 60 percent of its sales by 2026, and 80 percent by 2030.

However, with the help of e-fuels, it expects to keep internal combustion engines in its showrooms for years to come. By 2030 it expects to still be selling ICE-only vehicles, as well as a selection of plug-in hybrid models.

The automaker, along with other smaller supercar brands, has successfully lobbied to be allowed to adopt electric power more slowly than the rest of the industry, and for e-fuels to be acceptable under the European Union’s emissions regulations for the future.

Unfortunately, details relating to the brand’s first electric vehicle remain scant. However, a patent filing suggests that it could be sold with a “sound reproduction device” that creates a noise that relates to a vehicle’s speed – something that electric vehicles lack, and which many enthusiasts associate positively with fast cars.

Alfa Romeo to have limited-edition “halo car” every few years in addition to mainstream models, and electric vehicles from 2025.

Alfa Romeo’s legendary Disco Volante, or Flying Saucer, sports-racing car could inspire a new limited-edition model, according to Daniel Guzzafame, international head of product at the Italian car maker.

Alfa Romeo recently unveiled the 33 Stradale, a retro styled, but thoroughly modern supercar that will be built in internal combustion and EV variants, with a total of just 33 to be produced, and a price believed to be about $3 million apiece.

Such extremely limited, high-price motor cars have generally been the preserve of the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini, but Guzzafame says Alfa Romeo has set up a bottega, or workshop, dedicated to the brand’s ultimate enthusiast buyers. This gives Alfa the capability to produce an ultra-low volume “halo car” every two or three years, blending up-to-date mechanicals with exteriors shaped by traditional Italian body-building techniques.

This will run alongside a busy program of expanding the company’s range of regular models.

“The plan is from next year, every year, one [new] car on the market,” says Guzzafame. “When you have five to six cars, say five cars plus one specialty model, something like that, you are 100 per cent capable of covering the vast majority of the premium market, which is where we play.”

There will soon be replacements for the Giulia and Stelvio models (the long-running sedan and SUV variant). Other new models joining these, and the newer Tonale SUV, will be in the C, D and E segments, he says. This means small-medium to family-sized vehicles rather than, say, mini cars (such as the recent Mito hatch) or larger luxury sedans, such as the 164 of the 1980s and 1990s.

Alfa was upfront about the 33 Stradale being built to emphasise the passion for the brand rather than make a profit, but the huge reception it has received – and the fact that all 33 examples sold out immediately – should ease the way for successors. It was inspired by a sports car and its racing derivative from the 1960s.

The Disco Volante was seen earlier and is even rarer: a handful were built in 1952 and 1953, with convertible and coupé bodies. A huge emphasis on windtunnel testing gave it the “flying saucer” shape.

Guzzafame says the company is now talking to its most enthusiastic (and, presumably, wealthy) customers with a view to producing the follow-up and the Disco Volante was mentioned by many of the participants.

Among the mainstream cars, the first cab off the rank is the small-ish SUV code-named “Kid”, which will probably share its underpinnings with the Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600, two high-riding city cars now on sale in Europe. Jeep and Fiat are part of the Stellantis Group (along with Alfa, Maserati, Citroën, Peugeot and many others).

Guzzafame says that to have Stellantis as a parent is a big benefit. “If you need to develop everything from scratch, you are dead.”

The Bottega cars are separate from the “speciality model” alluded to by Guzzafame. This is likely to be a more accessible sports car, along the lines of the discontinued Spider convertible or Brera coupé, or perhaps a slightly more hard-core effort, such as the 4C (2014-2020), with its mid-mounted engine and carbon-fibre chassis.

Alfa Romeo is considering at least three different approaches, but any such car will come towards the end of the new model blitz.

“That is the kind of vehicle that typically generates inflow in the showroom or online,” says Guzzafame, “and it’s perfectly useless to have a great inflow if you don’t have anything else … you are throwing away all of the possible collateral effect of having a car like that in your showroom.”

The other priority is electrification, about which Guzzafame says, “The plan is one of 100 per cent electric from 2025 on any new program, [and] by 2027, 100 per cent electric.” He insists that Alfa can produce a competitive EV in terms of range and charging speed, with the performance and handling people expect from the brand.

This EV timetable refers only to core models, however.

A Bottega or specialty car could use a petrol engine, depending on EU rules on emissions, which are still in flux. That Bottega car may not be a Disco Volante of course, Guzzafame says.

“I can tell you that there are different options on the table. Alfa Romeo has a number of very iconic cars, super cars, from the past.”

Ferrari Roma Spider wins “The Sunday Times Dream Car of the Year” award in The Motor Awards 2023

Ferrari’s first front-engined V8 soft-top convertible, the Roma Spider, won the coveted title of “The Sunday Times Dream Car of the Year” in The Motor Awards 2023 at News UK’s office at London Bridge last night. The Motor Awards are curated by the motoring journalists and editors from News UK’s portfolio of media titles: The Sun, The Sunday Times, Driving.co.uk and Times Luxx.

This timelessly elegant, high-performance car is a contemporary take on the chic, pleasure-seeking Italian lifestyle of the 1950s and 60s. This spider carries over the proportions, volumes and specifications of the Ferrari Roma’s hugely successful V8 2+ concept, but what makes it so striking is the adoption of a soft top, a solution making a welcome return to the Prancing Horse range on a front-engined car 54 years after the 1969 365 GTS4. The Ferrari Roma Spider also features a new, patented wind deflector integrated into the backrest of the rear seat which guarantees exceptional in-car occupant comfort without taking up any space in the car.

Ferrari’s Andrea Militello, Head of Exterior Design (front-engined cars), Ferrari Centro Stile, collected the award and commented: “I’m collecting this award on behalf of the engineers, designers and test-drivers in Maranello who created such an outstanding and innovative Spider interpretation of the highly successful Roma coupe. This award will take pride of place in our trophy cabinet in Maranello, alongside the The Motor Awards which Ferrari also won for the 488 Pista in 2019, and the 296 GTB in 2022.”

The Ferrari Roma Spider, like all Ferrari production sports cars, is provided with a 4-year warranty in the UK, and a 7-year Genuine Maintenance service package that covers all routine maintenance costs for the first 7-years of the vehicle and which is also transferable to subsequent owners.

40 years ago, Lancia won its fifth World Constructors' Championship with the legendary Rally 037

“Lancia Rally 037 fully embodies the brand's spirit, made up of radical geometric shapes, combined with an elegant and exclusive design, giving life to a car always ready to overcome any obstacle: features that allowed the car to become part of the collective unconscious. The victory achieved exactly 40 years ago remains a historic moment for the Rally and consecrated the model in the pantheon of immortal global cars. It’s no coincidence that Lancia Rally 037 is one of nine cars that inspired the design of our future models.” stated Luca Napolitano, Lancia brand CEO.

October 7th 1983 represents a truly memorable date for the Lancia brand, an indelible day in the eyes and hearts of all racing enthusiasts: the Lancia Rally 037 indeed triumphs at the Sanremo Rally and secures its fifth World Constructors' Championship title with two races to spare in its history.
An astounding achievement for a stage entirely "signed" by the Italian marque, which had four cars in the top five final positions: with Markku Alen, Walter Röhrl, and Attilio Bettega, and a young Miki Biasion finishing fifth behind the wheel of a Lancia Rally 037 - Jolly Club.

A veritable feat, bearing in mind the technical values and power of the competing models: unlike its challengers, which could already rely on an all-wheel drive engine, the Lancia Rally 037 actually had a rear-wheel drive engine. Unsurprisingly, 40 years later, this remains an achievement that has never been repeated in the history of racing.
The victory in Sanremo marked the beginning of a golden age for the model: in a very short time, the Lancia Rally 037 managed to enchant millions of fans around the world. In addition to the Constructors' World Championship, it took the second place in the Drivers’ World Championship with Walter Röhrl and the European and Italian Championships with Miki Biasion, who shortly after also competed under the insignia of the official Lancia Martini team.

The history of the Lancia Rally 037 is one of excellence in Italian motorsport.
The official debut took place in 1982, at the 59th edition of the Turin Motor Show with the road version. It featured 205 hp, a twin-body carburetor, and supercharging through a volumetric compressor, the car had been designed in anticipation of entering the world of rallying.
200 units were produced in total, to obtain type approval as a Group B racing car.
The Lancia Rally, better known by its design designation of “037,” was actually a pure sports car in every detail: its “functional” bold shapes, both in the front and rear, and an angular “chalice” that made it an icon of rallying. It was clearly based on the Beta Montecarlo, a compact mid-engine coupe with a sporty feel, characteristic of the 70s. Taking that basis as a starting point, everything about the Lancia Rally 037 contributed to its sporty spirit: its aggressive styling; its brutal and efficient character. The minimalist and rational interior was the quintessence of competition, whereas some of the aerodynamic “appendages” on the pillar and tail – including a striking rear spoiler – raised its performance even higher.

The indomitable spirit of its original mixed structure was fitted out in sheer class, because of its simultaneously aggressive and elegant body that could push a significant aerodynamic load towards the ground. For maximum efficiency, it was made of polyester with fiberglass reinforcements, while the two lightweight bonnets, over the engine and trunk, could be completely disassembled.
That very balanced union of two such different spirits that already featured in the legendary Stratos made the Lancia Rally 037 one of the nine iconic cars in the brand's history that have inspired future models, starting with the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE, the brand's manifesto for the next 10 years. It is a 100% electric concept car that embodies the brand's vision in terms of design, interior home feeling, sustainability, electrification, and effortless technology. In the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE Concept, one can indeed find a design with a constant interplay between purity and radicalness that strongly recalls the essence of the Lancia Rally 037.

Maserati GT2 Grabs Podium Finish On Racing Debut

Maserati GT2 debuts on the track at Circuit Paul Ricard and already gets the podium with LP Racing in final round of the 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series

Maserati GT2, the Brand's new track sports car devoted to competition – unveiled in late June at the 24 Hours of Spa – made its racing debut at the Circuit Paul Ricard, in the final round of the 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series.

The Maserati GT2, driven by Leonardo Gorini and Luca Pirri, standard-bearers of LP Racing - the first team to bring a Trident car to the track - immediately distinguished itself thanks to an incredible performance during the race weekend: after the pole position on Friday, it climbed on the second step of the podium in Race 1 on Saturday and finished in the top ten in Race 2, in seventh place. A debut that promptly reignited the glorious memories of Maserati's racing history.

Ushering in the 2024 season ahead, the new 100% Made in Modena racing creation will officially be a competitor in the championship dedicated to the most eye-catching and high-performance grand touring cars.

The debut in the European series signifies Maserati's triumphant return to GT competition, where it made its mark in the 2000s with the winning MC12, showcasing a string of successes of as many as 13 titles between Constructors,’ Teams,' and Drivers' Championships.

A worthy successor to a car that was the stuff of dreams for fans and enthusiasts of the Italian brand alike, the Maserati GT2 is a masterpiece of performance tuned up in the footsteps of its glorious track forerunner and those of the Maserati MC20 super sports car, a road-going creation that shares with its spiritual sibling the extraordinary Nettuno V6 Twin Turbo engine, taken to an even higher level to tackle the challenges between the kerbs.

Maserati thus marks another major milestone: after having announced its new Brand racing strategy in late 2022, it has lent its name to the greatest categories of international motorsport in 2023. Maserati has rebuilt the bridge between the past, present, and future of motorsport, where the Trident has always carved out a place for itself among the greats.

Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO: “With its return to GT competition, Maserati is writing another significant chapter in the history of the most exciting and ambitious motorsport, carving out a place for itself where it had already left its mark in the past as a result of a trail of indelible successes. From the racetrack to the road, we always been seeking challenges to fuel and realise the desire to convey emotion behind the wheel. The Maserati GT2 is our passport to the brand's future in the racing world.”

Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse: “We couldn’t have asked for a better debut. The car today proved to be really competitive, and we are very pleased with this result. For us, getting back on the track is like coming home. Maserati has a long history in racing. It’s something that has always belonged to us and has set us apart. The Trident's DNA is made up of passion and competition, which translates to sensational cars dedicated to our series production and challenges on the track. Seeing the Maserati GT2 on the starting grid in a GT championship is a reminder of the Brand’s glorious past, which is once again taking shape and moving us forward into a new era of motorsport, where we once again strive to be one of the big players.”
