Y’all my heart is full. My grandparents pretty much raised me and I was extremely close to them, especially my grandma. Our birthdays were only 2 days apart, which I thought was very special.
Anyway. A month before my 19th birthday, I spent the day with my grandma and she ended up giving me my birthday present early. She gave me two ballerina figurines because I was a dancer and I was obsessed with ballet.
About an hour after I left that day, she died. We didn’t make it to our birthdays. So the figures got broken by my ex husband a few years later. I carried the pieces around for years and finally they got lost. This was almost 30 years ago.
I was on Facebook marketplace last week and these popped up as something I might be interested in. I didn’t search for them, they found me. Only $10 and right here in Texas. The seller got then from her grandma a long time ago but was selling a lot of her things.
They arrived in the mail yesterday, on my birthday. I got them for my birthday twice! Grandmas birthday is tomorrow and I haven’t felt her presence so much in years. I feel so grateful to have this memory back.

Been digging these up
In my backyard. Yep... creepy.
Can’t believe all the comments so far... lol!!
Ok, my house is at least 100 years old.... backs onto a ravine. I think I’ve found a old dump site of the edge of that ravine. I’ve dug up bottles and old gas light fixtures, part of a wood stove... all seem to date 1910-1940’s.
Still not so sure about the dentures... lol!!

My mom's house was built in the late 1800's. The bottom of her backyard, use to be the home of the city "dump" in the early 1900's. Growing up, we would find interesting pieces that would just pop up out of the ground; fine China, toy pieces, perfectly preserve medicine vials, dairy bottles, etc. A few years ago, on Halloween I found a 1904 penny laying in the driveway like someone had just dropped it. Was the right time for me to look down and see iti guess. Then, yesterday, while helping do her leaves, up popped this ceramic doll. It too popped up in the driveway. There's a # on the back 11246. Guess it was the right time for me to look down again. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Nearly every time I'm at her house, I find something interesting.
EDIT/UPDATE:
I need to correct my post. I misspoke. Its a 1906 nickle I found in the driveway. I added pictures of it.
So crazy back story to the coin. Some people think I'm crazy....but we have had paranormal things in the house. So, that being said, the day I found the coin, as I walked out of the house I said "hey! We haven't seen or heard from you in a while. Can you let me know if your still here? Give me a sign!" (I only did this because I was inside alone, where no one else could hear me and think I'm looney. 🤪 Btw...my mom never believe me about happenings until she had her own and she finally believes me.) I walk out the door into the driveway, something told me to look down. And I s**t you not. That's when the coin was right at my feet. Not pulling your legs or blowing smoke up there. I picked it up and showed my mom. I then confessed what I had said and she said "huh. Guess they're still here. " her house has quite some history to it. The earliest deed we have are written and signed with a quill pen 😳 back in the 1880s.
Thank for all the feed back!

My contribution to the stained glass theme. My dad, who was an estimator and supervisor in the insulation business, also had an artistic side. He made many stained glass lamps and window hangings over the years. I think he started making things after taking a class when he was in his 40s or so. This lamp, which took him a long time to make, was a labour of love for my mom, who loved this pattern. It hung over their dining room table for many years. After my mom died in 2012, and my dad had decided to sell the house, he gave it to me when me and my husband and kids were up in Montreal visiting the summer after my mom died. We carefully wrapped it and transported it back here to North Carolina in the minivan. It hangs in our kitchen now and casts pretty light shadows on the wall and ceiling. My dad died suddenly less than two years after my mom, but his handiwork is here for us to enjoy every day. I have a few other pieces of his, but this is my favourite because it was made for my mom, to whom he was married for 55 years before she had to go.

Y'all, my thirteen year old picked this up for me at an estate sale. I think it's meant to hang in the kitchen for butchers twine but I'm a crochet artist and she bought it for me to use as a yarn bowl. So freaking cute! She said "it even looks like you"

My absolute favorite secondhand possession. The Brain Lamp. My mom picked this up at a yardsale in the 1970's. It somehow survived in our basement tv room through five kids, a few dogs, and a 500 mile move in the mid 1980"s. After my dad passed in 1997, my mom was downsizing and preparing to move again. In the garage sale pile was The Brain. Gasp! Thankfully I happened to be visiting, snatched it up and it once again made a 500 mile trip home with me. It has since survived an additional four moves, kids, dogs, and grandkids. Over the years I have looked for this lamp on different sites. I have never found a match.
Edit: I will take a pic tonight of it lit!
Edited again: Amazingly you all have found an identical brain lamp for sale on Etsy. You all rock! I have reached out to that seller to see if she has any history on her lamp. It does appear to be a Helena Tynell lamp. Crazy! I also would like to add, yes I know it is a bubble lamp but in my family it will always be The Brain. 🤣

Ok, this isn't a weird find, just a special one. My mom had this carafe that she used when entertaining while I was growing up. It was hand crafted, bought on a vacation and broke somewhere along the way many years ago. At that time, she searched and even contacted the place she bought it to try to replace it. Well, all these years later I found the same one at a resale shop. Happiness is giving a special item back to someone you love who thought they had lost it forever.

Years ago my Grandma picked up these plates at a garage sale, and she always referred to her "depression glass dessert plates" as if they were oh so fancy. Having grown up as one of 13 children on a farm in North Dakota during the dust bowl era, she didn't have much in the way of actual family heirlooms but as an adult she did collect some lovely antiques over the years. After she passed these ALMOST went into a garage sale, until my Mom's friend casually mentioned, "Oh yes, the Tiffin Classic pattern, I always loved the naked dancers." Wait- WHAT?!?! All those years of eating holiday pie off these plates and we had no idea. Looked closer and sure enough... they came home with me and the kids now know them as Great Grandma's naked lady plates. 😂 And yes we eat our fancy holiday desserts on them in style.

My mom was downsizing and put this in her yard sale, but I was like, "no, ma'am, I grew up with this kitty, you are not getting rid of it!"
Needless to say, it's mine now!
My mom had picked it up second hand about 60 years ago. Made of cast iron, with green eyes. Decorative corn for scale (is that a thing? I don't have a banana☺️)

Back in the 80's, my dad found this owl mirror on the side of the road. I remember growing up with it in our bathroom and thought when my mom moved after all the kids grew up, that it was gone forever. A few years ago, my mom pulled it out of storage and gave it to me since my kids theme was owls. I repainted it to match the colors in their bathroom decor and the kids loved it! I was very excited when I found out my mom kept it and now I'm able to use it for years to come!
Edit: had the frame been actual wood instead of painted plastic, I would have left it as is, but with it being over 25 years old when I acquired it, it had 25+ years of dirt and grime that I had to scrub off which took the paint off as well.

My mom's mirror found its way back to me! Long story, but maybe some of you will appreciate it.
My artistic Mom and Dad etched this mirror and built it's original frame when they were young and life was good.
In 2005 my mom lost our home. Mental health, drugs, poverty were all factors. I was a sophomore in h.s so not much help there. Anyway, we had to throw some things hastily into storage and couch surf for a few months. We paid for the storage for 3 years meanwhile transitioned to another state and got our lives on track. We eventually made it back to our hometown and when entering the storage it was clear someone else had ransacked it. The mirror was nowhere to be found. I was devastated. It was the only real material thing I cared about from my painful past.
In 2010 my mom passed away from stomach cancer. Another painful transition of losing my mother, watching my family fall apart, and giving up most of our possessions and our home again.
Fast forward a few years and an former boyfriend told me he had found my mirror in his mom's storage shed!! A miracle! Now how to get it back? I definitely didn't want to send it through the mail so eventually I had a friend transfer it from my ex to my dad who are all in my hometown. His friend put a temporary frame on it since the original had been weathered too badly. Fast foward again and I made a trip down there and picked it up. My father in law built a custome walnut frame for it and after 15 years it is up on my wall again! I can't tell you how important this mirror is to me!! And how delighted I am to have it on my wall. Especially with my baby coming. He'll grow up with it like I did. 🥰🥰🥰
Edit:
1.Context, grammar. My mom passed away 10 years ago so this is especially meaningful to me now. Pleased don't post negative comments. It's not helpful, just hurtful. My former BF is the kindest person I know so I know he did not ransack our storage. He would not have had reason to. I'm assuming my mom asked to put some things in his safe keeping. I don't know and I can't ask her and he and I don't talk anymore.

My collection of Breyer horses! Most of them I found at thrift stores. Some came from my mom when she was a kid. I can't believe I have been collecting for over 20 years. Fun story, one Christmas my family was very poor and my mom went to get me a gift from a thrift shop. I guess they had just set out 20 of these. She wanted to get me them all but couldn't afford it, she called my dad crying. A lady over heard her and turns out she was the person who had donated them. Then the lady proceeded to gather them all up and she paid for all of them! She told my mom to tell me merry Christmas from Mrs. Clause. I was like 8 years old. Still one of my favorite story's she tells every Christmas eve.

Y'all. I scored so hard.
$3
Flea market today.
I carried it like it was my child throughout the rest of the market. It's a HUGE bowl. (Nanner for scale)
EDIT: omg I love this group...
This is a uranium glass bowl.
No eels, slugs, fish or poops were harmed in the process if acquiring the bowl.
Bananas seem to be the go to scale of things in this wierd group, thought I was a lil funny since they are radioactive too... I'll see myself out lol

So a bit of a long story but it's to cool not to be shared.. I grew up in Colorado but recently moved to Oklahoma with the rest of my family, right after we moved my mom found a little flea market run by a brother and sister that is only open once a month, the building is basically falling down around them but they have some cool glass trinkets and cookie jars. After a while of my mom looking around she found a few things that she liked. Right as she was about to leave she saw this sign right next to the door covered in spider webs and dust, she asked the brother how much for the sign and he turned to his sister and said "Maggie are you ready to part with it?" Keep in mind whenever my mom would ask how much anything was he was the one the the prices. She then told my mom the story of the sign.
In 2000 she started a little library inside of her house so that she kids could go after school while their parents were still working, this was a way for the parents to know the kids were not getting in trouble and staying safe. They could read any book there and she had little places set up where they could read. Her brother hand painted this sign for her to hang outside. In 2007 she had to close her little library down because she was not zoned correctly according to the city.
I am a lover of books, reading is my favorite pass time, I think its cool that this little library started in 2000 the year I was born. After my mom brought home this sign, the fallowing month I went to meet her, she is super sweet and her brother is hilarious. Now I am inspired to one day start my own library so that kids can enjoy reading in a safe environment, and when that day comes I will happily hang this sigh in front but it will will hang in my room (aka my personal library) until then.

My mom and I found these sunglasses at an antique shop years ago!!
Chain sunglasses. I have never seen anything like these. They are HUGE on my face but so cute.
They had an awful smell (OLD plastic smell) so we bathed them in newspapers for a bit and it helped, there’s still a smell but they are wearable! (Marked out my face so y’all could see the glasses worn, but I didn’t want to get in trouble for it being a selfie!!)

My pizza plates! I got them a few years ago at Goodwill, we use them everytime we have pizza and they make us happy!
Edit: I'll add a picture in the comments of the only marking on any plate. The name Deborah Mallow.
I'm loving all the memories that people have of these! We pile on the pizza and breadsticks so they all fit! My kids are amazed at all the people reacting! ❤

My momma was a thrifter! She sadly passed away unexpectedly before her time at the age of 67 in 2014. My mother had 3 children of her own, but took in a total of 23 foster children over a 13 year period while I was growing up. I have grown up with 6 legally adopted siblings, making my mom a mother of 9 and a true hero. ❤️ Thrifting was a necessity for us. My mom found this little fun item at a thrift store about 20 years ago. She gave it to me a while back cause I enjoyed decorating with little bees back then. I’ve always held onto it. I just pulled it from a box today, and decided to open it up just for fun. And lo and behold! Momma’s little beehive has exactly 9 little BEES! One for each of us. Untouched from the way she found it. What are the odds!? ❤️❤️
~Edit to add in response to all the love and support for my dear mom and to support foster care. ~ ❤️
Once there were two women who never knew each other.
One you do not remember, the other you called mother.
Two different lives, shaped to make you one.
One became your guiding star, the other became your sun.
The first one gave you life. The second you taught to live it.
The first gave you a need for love, the second taught you to give it.
One gave you a nationality, the other gave you a name.
One gave you talent, the other gave you aim.
One gave you emotions, the other calmed your fears.
One saw your sweet smile, the other dried your tears.
One sought for you a home, that she could not provide,
The other prayed for a child, and her hope was not denied.
And now you ask me through your tears, the age old question, unanswered through the years;
Heredity or environment, which are you a product of?
Neither my darling, neither.
Just two different kinds of love.
