I think this NABJ issue ultimately speaks to a matter of Ethics, which was my most difficult class while earning a degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Florida.

It was difficult because ethics is subjective- and I think there’s no longer a unified code- among journalists, among black people- and certainly not as Americans through this Tr&mp era.

I could offer a myriad of opinions as a black woman, as an independent journalist from my perspective inside the industry and outside, and as a Democratic voter and MVP Harris supporter.

But I’ll just say my personal and professional codes of ethics do not support the NABJ decision to invite him. I believe black women were sacrificed to prove eligibility and worthiness and it caused nothing but division amongst us.

Having a larger platform is not my goal.

My ultimate desire is for peace, contentment and the creative freedom to do meaningful work. 🙏🏾

I am so happy to see this story being told!!! It has fallen on deaf ears for years. Thank you to WJXT4 Jenese Harris and CPC/ Ennis Davis!

Just feet away from children playing in the park and beautiful old oak trees, is an unbelievable site. A gravesite for a man who died decades ago buried, in the middle of a sidewalk, in the historic Durkeeville community.

I spent my college summer internship at WJXT4 The Local Station / News4JAX and learned alot from how Frank ran the Assignment Desk. I ended up getting my first job at First Coast News as an Assignment Editor, and lowkey, I took alot from what I saw observing him.

Since leaving, whenever I've called back, it's been heartwarming to hear his signature voice. He's a legend, I'm thankful I got to witness his work, and I wish him well in retirement!

Frank Powers officially retires at the end of his shift on Monday after more than 40 years in the business.

After the ribbon cutting yesterday, I was privileged to interview the Honorable RubyAnn Darling, The Deputy Governor of the Bahamas!

She was the FIRST WOMAN TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN THE BAHAMAS IN 1962!!! 🥹🙌🏾🇧🇸

AND TODAY IS HER 83rd birthday!!!

I just had to shout that to the rooftops!!

I have tremendous gratitude for former Senator Tony Hill who invited her to attend the opening of Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing Park

The Johnson Brothers’ mother, Helen, was a native of the Bahamas. Her father Stephen Dillet was the first black man elected to Parliament in 1833. He was the Johnson brothers’ grandfather.

Today marks a momentous occasion! My company provided for the Marker Design at the new Lift Every Voice and Sing park!

Community Planning Collaborative was our lead, I provided storytelling, Erin is Creative designed each marker and Ashanta Williamson and Charmion Thrasher coordinated fabrication. Hood Design Studio provided architectural design.

This site was formerly the home of James Weldon and J. Rosamond Johnson, the brothers who wrote and composed the National Black Anthem, Lift Ev’Ry Voice and Sing. They actually created the song inside that home, in a home studio that Rosamond converted.

Today, I was thrilled to have my parents there 🌻🫶🏾

Finally, thanks to former Sen. Tony Hill, I was hired to interview J. Rosamond Johnson’s granddaughter, Ms. Melanie Edwards. More to come on that! 🎥

Many contributors made this happen, and our work was contracted through The DuPont Fund.
