“I'll be there soon - I'm just on my way now.” I said
I was on the phone with my Rav; my mentor. It’s been a while since we have seen each other and I was on my way to his office when my phone rang
“O.K., I'll be expecting you.” He hung up the phone.
Rav is my career mentor, he's someone who uses his experience to guide and help me grow my career. He offers his advice and expertise to help me make decisions, overcome challenges, and progress in my career.
He helps me to navigate my way through the job market, providing guidance and support during difficult times, he expand my network and connect with other professionals, he advocate for me and open doors for me as I develop in my career.
I've had many people ask me how many mentors can I have
As such, I tend to recommend people should have somewhere between 1–3 mentors. I expect this may well sound like a lot.
Have a spiritual mentor who cares about you and wants the best for you. We know that the most important thing in life is to have a personal relationship with Christ, so your spiritual mentor will encourage you to invest in this relationship.
Apart from Spiritual mentor, we have Career mentors, Academic mentors, Business mentors and so on.
Having more than one mentor means the possibilities are endless, it provides you with new opportunities to grow in your life. For example, having a spiritual mentor, mentor who covers skills with you and also having one that helps you with your finances, is going to help you grow in more ways than one. No one is an expert in every field and can advise you on all areas of your life, that's why it's essential to expand your knowledge if you want to see improvements. Having multiple mentors is an effective solution to this.
So, get out there, invest in yourself and ensure you’re benefiting from a breadth of perspectives. Don't be ordinary--be extraordinary
Spend some time to unlearn, and then learn.
I parked in my assigned spot and emerged from the car. I went into the elevator and pushed the button for the top floor. As the elevator creaked to a halt, the doors parted and I stepped out
When I knocked on the door, I heard my Rav's voice, “Come in.”
I opened the door and entered
“Good morning Rav.”
He spread his arms and I rushed into his arms
“My baby girl, an African woman with an outstanding characteristics.”
I smiled at him as I gently released myself from his embrace.
“Yes, that makes you irresistible. . You're a definition of impossible to refuse.”
“Rav!”
He burst out laughing, “Is my baby blushing?”
“From my research, I'm aware that african women can prove to you that they are two edged sword. One side is friendly and another is tough, is that true?”
“That is absolutely true.” I replied
“How is your handsome man? The man lavishing you with a million kindnesses.”
“He's doing really well.”
“I’ve been married 21 years, and people don’t believe me when I say it’s one of the easiest things I’ve ever done. I definitely don’t fit the “marriage is hard” crowd. Of course we fight and argue, but so did I with my sisters growing up, but do you ever hear “being a sibling is so hard, it takes a lot of work?”
No, you don’t. That is why I usually tell young ladies that comes for counselling not to let what others say keep them from wanting to get married. It’s mostly fun and of course, I'm seeing the effects of having a kind partner on my baby girl as well.”
I smiled as politely as I could. My Rav is a jovial, charming character who has a heart of gold and would get on with anyone
“Don't stand. Take a seat, please.” He motioned for me to take a seat in a plush armchair.
