2023 has been beautiful. It taught me many things about being a business owner, being a responsible manager and partner and how to be a better friend. I’m so glad to be doing what I’m doing in coffee, even if it’s in my own small way through roasting or helping out friends in any way with their gigs, pursuing nice coffee experiences together

Every time I send out an order of coffee, or step into the roastery (despite grumbling about waking up on a Saturday), I’m reminded how privileged I am to have done what I’ve loved as a job in some capacity. I believe that’s what the Quarter Life Crisis seeks to answer: finding the time to make something you love work for you and sharing it with others

Merry Christmas from our home to yours. I thank everyone that has ordered online or visited .collective and had our coffee there. I hope to send you a honestly beautiful coffee to you in 2024

I don’t believe one should get into home brewing coffee if the only goal is just to save cost. I’ve seen too many Singaporeans saying they will save $x from making coffee and buying the absolute minimum and complaining that it isn’t nice

Like any hobby, it is but a want and not a need.

You don’t NEED nice coffee in your life. You WANT nice coffee. As such, it is pointless to think about using it to save cost if all you are going to do is buy cheap coffee and spend less on the experience. If saving money is your end goal, then do yourself a favour by buying coffee from a good coffee shop or from the uncle making Kopi-Os. I’m sure they’ll need your business and it saves you the trouble of making it yourself!

I’m not saying you need to break the bank by buying the absolute best gear. Invest in the basics: a scale, a grinder, and good coffee. Then if you want more out of the experience, buy more. Enjoy coffee the right way. Buy from a good local roaster, grind fresh, brew with clean water, and enjoy thoughtfully

I’ve felt lost more times than I can count in this business. Much to the annoyance of friends, I’ve always jumped from one focus to another, never settling on deciding what defined me and what I do the most. Whilst people around me grow and evolve in their journey, I always struggled with the question “what is it that I do here? What’s our main focus as a brand? What is my philosophy?” It was always some long winded story about this and that, never putting it down in a sentence what I believe in.

Nonetheless, I am glad for friends and those that have come and gone in this journey of mine that have led me to a place where I think I can finally say it with confidence my place. I redefine, revolve, evolve

We want to Redefine the Everyday Coffee. It’s not a bombastic approach, it’s not earth shaking or that unique or special. It’s not super cool or fun. I just believe in good coffee and people that want to grow together and get better at loving this simple thing. I do hope I can remain true and honest to this, and to keep sharing simply and what is nice.

Cheers to the everyday coffee, and I hope to send you a bag soon

Really glad to have been working with the great folks for their coffee program for the last few months. Go by for a cup of coffee at the next big thing in the Katong neighbourhood!

They’re now serving a beautiful natural processed coffee from Guadalupe Zaju in Mexico. Juicy, creamy for those big warm cups

Been a hot minute since we’re shared something new.

Brand new in store: Ipanema Alma Di Monte Wine Gold - A red acacia processed whole cherry natural anaerobic.

I’ve always been fascinated by non-conventional Brazilian coffees that push the boundaries of processing and flavour understanding. This is yet another one from the minds behind Fazenda Rio Verde

Really impressed by the warm, round mouthfeel of this coffee, together with its complexity and the fact that it is still clean and not overwhelming like most other anaerobic naturals
