Shout out to our amazing ‘Return of the White Shark’ crew, led by Adam Geiger and Brian Skerry! We were so lucky to work with an unreal range of talent on this film.

Over two years — from summer through winter and back to summer again — our team filmed White shark behaviors that have never been recorded before, smiling through long days on the water to deliver some of the most complicated hi-tech shots ever captured here.

And of course, there are the people who aren’t pictured here who work tirelessly behind the scenes and through the edit… They’ve also made this film look as fabulous as it does.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to ‘Return of the White Shark’, we couldn’t do it without you!

50 years ago, Cape Cod would not have been a risky place to swim when it comes to sharks. But since protection measures were put in place for White sharks and their prey, Grey seals, both of these species have seen major population rebounds in the shallow waters around the Cape 🦭🦈

Shark scientists Greg Skomal and Megan Winton are determined to study the population of White sharks that, like thousands of tourists, return to Cape Cod each summer. By understanding the predatory behaviors of the sharks, they may be able to predict when and where they will be more aggressive. This information is then used to advise authorities who aim to keep everyone safe at the beach.

‘Return of the White Shark’ drops for National Geographic’s 2023 SharkFest on July 2nd on Disney+ and July 3rd at 9pm on National Geographic Channel in the US.

Cape Cod is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches, stretching for miles along picturesque coastline. Visitors flock here every summer to relax, swim, surf and sunbathe. But they share the shallows with a formidable predator, the Great White shark… and their population is growing 🦈🦈

Scientists Greg Skomal and Megan Winton are out on the water day after day to study the growing shark population around the Cape. They are on a mission to understand the predatory behaviors of Cape Cod White sharks in order to better protect people.

‘Return of the White Shark’ drops for National Geographic’s 2023 SharkFest on July 2nd on Disney+ and July 3rd at 9pm on National Geographic Channel in the US.

Great White sharks have ignited debates in coastal towns worldwide, and with sharks venturing closer to shore, Cape Cod is no exception. But has new research found a way to keep beaches safe?

Tune in and find out when ‘Return of the White Shark’ drops for National Geographic’s 2023 SharkFest on July 2nd on Disney+ and July 3rd at 9pm on National Geographic Channel in the US.

🌊 Happy World Ocean Day! 🌊

In celebrating the ocean today, we are reminded how lucky we are to visit and film in some of the worlds most beautiful and least understood ecosystems.

Our oceans are a vital source of life, providing us with sustenance, oxygen, and endless joy! Let’s do our best to look after our waterways and keep them healthy for future generations to enjoy 🐠🐋🌊☀️🏝️

We missed the boat to post on Earth Day this year, but here at SeaLight every day is a bit like Earth Day 🌱 we have a team of nature lovers who help us create films that we hope will inspire people to care for our planet – and we love that about them ❤️

This day is a reminder that we are all connected, so do something kind for Nature this week. Whether it’s switching to using a keep cup or donating to your local wildlife rescue - every bit counts.

How did you celebrate your earth day? We spent ours at Australia Museum's 'Sharks' exhibition. The life-sized shark models were phenomenal to see, and it was great to see friends – and subjects of some of our films – up on the walls!

Pictured is:
🦈 the inimitable Valerie Taylor, who you can see in 'Shark Beach with Chris Hemsworth' on Disney+
🦈 Jodie Rummer, who you can see in 'Baby Sharks', also on Disney+
🦈 and the legend himself, Paul De Gelder, who was in our Discovery Shark Week film 'Shark Exile'.

The 'Sharks' final day open is tomorrow! So if you're keen to see what it would be like to size up against a Bull shark, a Tiger shark or even a Great White, make sure you get down the the Australia Museum in Sydney tomorrow.

We also managed to swing by the Australian National Maritime Museum and immediately recognised Alick Tupoti's beautiful workmanship after seeing Alick and Albert Film. The pictured bronze statue shows the life cycle and feeding patterns of the dhangal (dugong) in the Torres Strait Islands.

This weekend, we were able to be there in person to support the launch of the Australian Sea Lion Recovery Foundation. A new charity venture tackling population decline of the endangered Australian sea lion, headed up by our very own Sarah Beard.

It was a wonderful afternoon, with an encouraging show of support for our favourite sea puppies. Lucky even won one of the fabulous raffle prizes that were generously donated by local businesses!

Head over to Australian Sea Lion Recovery Foundation to find out how you can help, and where donations are being directed to prevent this species from going extinct in our lifetime.

It's that time of year again… and our team has been enjoying everything on offer at the 2023 Volvo Ocean Lovers Festival!

The Bondi-based festival gathers scientists, activists, filmmakers, politicians, and the general public in the most engaging ways and our team has thoroughly enjoyed attending the range of panels and events.

Highlights of the week have been:
🌊 The Path to Purging Plastics forum – a discussion for potential future innovations and actions to help 'turn the tide' on ocean plastic pollution.

🌊 Designer Marina DeBris’ ‘trashion’ show, "Beach Couture: A Haute Mess" – a prime example of advocacy as entertainment, the show displays just how much of our trash ends up in our oceans in a format you simply cannot ignore! Pictured is Colette with festival director, Anita Kolni, and designer herself, Marina DeBris, with one of her many trash-tastic creations. We also caught up with Allegra Spender MP, who we were thrilled to see was there to support the festival and speak on ocean plastics.

🌊 Film screening of ‘Alick and Albert’ followed by Q+A session – this is a film about two communities on opposite sides of the planet, Monaco and Badu Island in the Torres Strait, which are concerned by climate change and the many threats to the future of the Ocean. It was an absolute pleasure to be in the room for the Q+A session that followed the film, with ABC’s Stephen Oliver and star of the documentary, Alick Tipoti.

🌊 Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Science – amazing to see how traditional and contemporary Indigenous ocean governance is working with modern science to benefit the health of our ocean. And it’s always a pleasure to see and hear from friends and colleagues, Adriana Verges, a leading professor in Marine Ecology at UNSW, and Robert Cooley, Senior Field Officer with the Gamay Rangers.

There is so much more to baby sharks than a catchy song! Did you know:

🦈 Young Epaulette sharks are able to survive on reef flats without oxygen for up to an hour by slowing their breathing and shutting off parts of their brain
🦈 Baby Bull sharks are incredibly active in estuaries, and are known to travel 60 miles up river
🦈 Port Jackson sharks are born from spiral shaped eggs and are susceptible to be eaten by their own family before they’re even born

Learn more when Baby Sharks premieres as part of National Geographic’s 2022 SharkFest, beginning this Sunday, July 10, on Disney+
