The purpose of our venerable and esteemed Society is to provide Islanders and interested parties with a singluar hub for gathering and exchanging tales and histories of interest relating to the 'Unseen Alderney' as initially outlined in the book 'Alderney: The Devil's Rock'. Thanks to the great support of those who have bought to the book, we are encouraged to redouble our efforts, and to directly
reach out and ask other Islanders to help us gather this precious knowledge before, with passing generations, it is lost forever. We would like to encourage members of the Society to seek out and submit information on the following subjects relating to Alderney:
Tales of strange encounters with spectral inhabitants of Alderney - even the most seemingly trivial snippets of information can open up new avenues of enquiry, or confirm accounts submitted by others. Interesting historical details that might either help us validate (or disprove) various paranormal encounters of Alderney, or else provide a dynamic background against which we can weigh stories, or even just come to a deeper understanding of the real, mysterious, nature of the island we love so much. Finally, of importance is the cross-referencing of island accounts against those associated with the broader history and folklore of the British Isles and nearby continental Europe. Whilst the writing partnership of Ravenscroft and Black has led to a commercial success with the book Alderney: The Devil's Rock, our primary concern is to provide a forum for those interested in Alderney to re-explor einteresting and near-forgotten aspects of Alderney, and to promote an ongoing dialogue between Islanders and, after a fashion, the island itself. This we feel is particularly important in these darkening days. The spirit of Alderney is indeed on the rise once more, and with the help of the Society, it can once again take its rightful place in the history of civilisation.
