One of the reasons I love owning a company is I get to choose who I work with. The type of clients you work with can make or break your business and your mental health. I like to work with people that I can celebrate wins with and be more than just an engineer.

In true Kelly K Audio fashion - where there's a lack of posting there's a new big project in the works!

Excited to share that I've been working on a new original show with the Wondery team - 'Tis The Grinch Holiday Talk Show - featuring comedian and SNL-cast member James Austin Johnson as The Grinch - and it's out for you all to enjoy!

It has been a huge team effort and quite the time crunch getting this put together in time for the holiday season but I couldn't be happier with the end product.

The episodes are broken down into three acts - my talented colleague Jamie Coupar edited and designed the first two acts and I've had the privilege of doing the third. Act 3 is the celebrity interview portion where The Grinch sits down with celebrity guests including Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson East, WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, actress Skai Jackson, fellow SNL-cast member Bobby Moynihan, and comedian and actor Patton Oswalt, who will try to convince The Grinch to embrace the spirit of Christmas.

This show is perfect for the entire family to sit down each week and have a fun holiday listening experience together.

I couldn’t have had a more perfect weekend leading into year 31. I got to meet up with Jamie Coupar at Wondery to talk about a new project, April Tucker to tour the Fox lot and catch up and then attended my fourth year of the Mix Sound for Film & TV conference at Sony with David Bondelevitch and Mike Henderson. I am absolutely privileged to be able to work in such an amazing field with so many talented humans. I can’t wait to see what 31 brings! 🎉🎧🎚️

We have walls, ceilings and floors! I couldn't be happier with how this studio is coming along and my ATMOS mix suite is a fantastic size. I can't wait to paint and start treating it! I'm going to take a break next week during Podcast Movement but will be finishing everything up right after. This is all starting to feel real and I couldn't be more excited. Someone pinch me!

As most of you know, 6 months ago I was laid off from my full time job as an audio editor at Starz. Since then I’ve worked tirelessly to build up my freelance business and today I’m beyond excited to announce my next move.

Kelly K Audio is opening up a commercial studio space on South Broadway next month! The new space will have a Dolby ATMOS mix suite and a separate recording booth. I’ll be offering my usual editing, mixing and sound design for television, film and podcasts as well as some new services like audio and video recording for podcasts.

I couldn’t have made this happen without the support of my amazing clients and colleagues - especially Jeff Kanan and Nick Sullivan . It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you have a solid support system.

We’re hoping to be up and running just in time for Podcast Movement next month. So, keep your eyes peeled for updates and progress.

This was an amazing project to work on. From day 1 on set the entire crew knew how important it was to tell the story of this product’s evolution. I’m so proud that I was able to capture the sound of this new chapter for The North Face and I can’t wait to see what the future of mountaineering looks like for women around the world! 🎬🎛️🎧🥾

Got hard drives?? I’ve always lived off the idea that if you don’t have your work backed up in two different places you don’t have it at all. I keep a full copy of my work drive backed up locally along with all raw and finished assets on Google drive and a separate local backup drive for each client. What’s your system like?

Why your dream job can (and probably should) change.

The past six years of my life have been a wild ride.

When I started grad school in 2016, my dream was to work in a studio recording and mixing bands. I landed an internship at a studio doing just that, and eventually became an engineer. I loved every second of it.

In the Recording Arts program I was also introduced to the world of audio for film and television. I invested in a production sound kit and started working on set as a mixer. I thrived in that environment, and thought, "this is it - this is the dream!"

Flash forward to senior year: I took a post-production audio course, and my dream job changed yet again. After graduation I took on a role at Starz, working as an editor and mixer on internationally distributed content for over four years.

Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to hone my skills, build relationships, and expand my knowledge across the audio industry. And now, I've found a new dream job that allows me to explore all of my passions.

So what's this new, shiny dream job? It's the ability to work for myself full-time as an audio engineer at my own company - Kelly K Audio.

My main areas of focus are production sound mixing, sound design, and post-production for film, television, and podcasts. I have a new 5.1 home studio with full ATMOS capability where I'm ready to make audio magic with my new (and existing!) clients.

Your dream job can (and should) change when you are ready for the next adventure and opportunity. I've spent my career setting goals, reaching them, and finding new boundaries to break once I do. I wouldn't be where I am today without my strong network of friends, colleagues, clients, and mentors, and I thank you all in advance for your support through this next chapter.

Here's to 2023, filled with new jobs, new dreams, and new heights!
