🕯️🖤🕯️
On the 1st September we honour the memory of Doreen Valiente, the Mother of modern Witchcraft, who passed away in 1999.
Doreen will always be one of the most admired and pioneering witches in the modern-day movement; a talented woman who wrote various books, poetical pieces and Wiccan liturgy that still inspire each generation to experience the wonders of Witchcraft. Doreen was first initiated in 1953 by Gerald Gardner and later became High Priestess of his Bricket Wood coven, contributing to the development of various texts which are utilised amongst many Witches including The Charge of the Goddess and The Witches Rune. After this Doreen spent many of her years in study, working with other Witches Charles Cardell and Robert Cochrane and later went on to become the president of the Witchcraft research association amongst many other achievements.
Her legacy remains prominent for the dedication she put towards reviving magic whilst embracing respect for the environment and feminism. Her fair but firm wisdom rings true decades later, and is something that we can all benefit from
"Magic, indeed, is all around us, in stones, flowers, stars, the dawn wind and the sunset cloud; all we need is the ability to see and understand"
