It's hard to believe, but after starting my self-publishing "career" in 2018, I've now created four children's books with the help of some amazing artists.
The journey has been full of many ups and down, and much more difficult than I anticipated. It also hasn't been a lucrative career. I have a full-time job and I write on the weekends, but without name recognition or the backing of a publisher, my books get little visibility. And even with four books out, and a successful kickstarter campaign, I'm still pretty far in the red. Fortunately I have a very supportive wife who allows me continue to do this!
But even so, self-publishing these four books has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Knowing that I've put works out into the world that have the potential to change lives is extremely gratifying. These books have allowed me to bring some of my childhood experiences, and insecurities, to life, and maybe they will bring hope and peace to children who need it.
I'd like to end by saying that the greatest outcome of all of this, has been the realization that my self-publishing journey has shown my kids what is possible when you set a goal and work to achieve it. I hope that lights a pilot light in them that will always be ready to flare up when they have a goal to achieve.
