"Techno was supposed to be about the future, but its been going backwards not forwards over the last couple of years. It's too easy now. People read about what equipment to buy and, because it's so advanced, all they have to do is push a few buttons and they've made a record. There's no focus, no direction, no understanding. It's meant to be an intelligent music form, but the only intelligent thing about it now is the equipment. I wish more artists would cut out the sampling and the loops, go back to scratch and programme the s**t themselves. I've heard some good ideas, but there are just too many samples. We need sounds we haven't heard before, we need different rhythms and patterns. That's what electro is about."

Sonic Infinitum mode

The 20 year wait is over! Clone Records have announced they are reissuing and are now taking pre-orders for Hypothetical Situations (2003) by Abstract Thought. There seems to initially be a limited orange double vinyl edition exclusive to clone.nl (one per customer). They say it's also possible to pre-order regular black as well (promo text below). Expected release date is 27th Feb.

This is very long awaited reissue and was one of Drexciya's Storm Series. Back in October DRL ran some posts about the album (linked in comments) and maybe this got a dialogue going with the original label Kombination Research or else it has been in the pipeline for sometime as this is its 20th anniversary, either way it's great to have the album widely available again for new and old fans.

On I think the same day Tresor Berlin opened the pre-order for the equally long awaited Shifted Phases album, The Cosmic Memoirs of the Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope (2002). I will be covering this tomorrow more fully but have linked Bandcamp page in comments.

Keeping the theme of UR's The Unknown Writer's 1997 text for The Quest going (full text and more in comments), this closing section posed a series of questions, some of which soon became answered in the affirmative by journalists and fans. He points out however that we will never know for sure. As Drexciya were over at this point, it truly was the 'end of one thing...and the beginning of another (their rebirth as legends, along with the inevitable mythology that will grow around them). Which along with their music, this text was so crucial in helping to bring about.
