JUST IN: After four years in jail, Gloria Campos Tomalon, sister of former Bayan Muna Representative and Manobo leader Eufemia Cullamat, is acquitted and set free by the Regional Trial Court Branch 7 in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, proving her innocence on non-bailable charges of arson, kidnapping, serious illegal detention and robbery with violence.

Campos-Tomalon was a former councilor of the municipality of Lianga, Surigao del Sur and a member of the Malahutayong Pakigbisog Alang sa Sumusunod (Mapasu) which defends the Manobo ancestral land from mining.

Atty. Leon Montilla described the trial for Campos as a “tough case,” as it occurred at the height of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) campaign that red-tagged Lumad communities and schools including Alcadev which Mapasu supported.

"Privatization of health care translates into more business establishments getting into health care. While I have seen health care models that had good intentions of reducing the impact of cost on the health care, but for real, these models are unsustainable and cannot be done only by the citizens, charity organizations or civil society organizations and the like. Only the governments have the economies of scale."

We see a family in crisis having to deal with commodification of health care. We see a system where health care is a business transaction between the patient and the health care provider.

BREAKING: Karapatan Southern Mindanao releases an alert that its former secretary general Jay Apiag was arrested by authorities last August 13 in Digos City, Davao del Sur. “Let us not dilute the outstanding achievements in the 2024 Paris Olympics by reporting on trivial matters that do not carry news values and do not shape public opinion…Reporting on family feuds or personal problems of private individuals promotes an “unacceptable culture of voyeurism and rumour-mongering,” journalism professor Danilo Arao said.

The publicized family feud surrounding two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has drawn reactions on media’s coverage on this matter.

LOOK: Kilusang Mayo Uno held a mass action today August 10 in Freedom Park marking the fourth month into the disappearance of their fellow labor organizer William Lariosa.
He was forcibly taken by the military in a farmworkers' community in Quezon, Bukidnon last April 10.

His family has been searching for him in military camps for months, prompting KMU and other progressive groups to call out the government to surface Lariosa and stop the red-tagging and harassment of labor activists and unionists in the country./Kath M.Cortez(davaotoday.com)
