Thrilled to announce that our new Ensoniq "DP Editor" app is now available for Mac and Windows, supporting both the DP/4 and DP4+ !!

There's lots of detailed info about some of the background that went into its development on this forum post, https://defectiverecords.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/531/announcing-dp-editor/ , and detailed system requirements and purchasing info at the app's home page, at https://defectiverecords.com/dpeditor .

We were fortunate enough to have assistance from some of the original Ensoniq development team (including John O. Senior, Bill Mauchly, Scott Peer, and Jon Dattorro) in my quest for documentation, as well as several other dedicated testers to whom I'm incredibly appreciative for all the work and feedback, especially Jannis Tzikas.

Enjoy!

• Fully supports both the Ensoniq DP/4 and DP/4+ * • Edit all effects algorithm parameters in real-time from your computer • Visualize signal flow from physical inputs through effects and out physical outputs, with user interface that adapts to effect configuration – one of the most importan...

Happy 202 day everyone!

In 1997, Defective Records released a crazy bit of software for the Roland MC-202 that allowed for programming of its sequencer with MIDI files through the tape input jack: MC-202 Hack. And though it's still maintained for today’s computer systems over 25 years later, what we're all *really* waiting for is Tubbutec absolutely incredible forthcoming new mod, MC-2oh2, which is getting tantalizingly close to being ready.

And so on this 202 day, we're psyched to announce that Tubbutec and Defective have been working together on an upcoming new software tool for the mod: MC-2oh2 Hack!

MC-2oh2 Hack will allow you to get, send and edit all pattern, song and set data from the synth. It allows you to freely edit the sequences in familiar piano roll format for all three of its channels, and preview them in real time on the 2oh2 synth (or any other MIDI synth if you so desire). You can also adjust all LFO modulation, ADSR modulation, and filter and noise accent modulation settings, again hearing the effects in real time. You can also save and load all of the above to disk for easy storage and retrieval later.

In addition, MC-2oh2 Hack adds the ability to constrain your sequences to user-selectable scales, as well as being able to randomize pattern notes, lengths, portamento and volume, filter and noise accents, all within user-specified ranges and probabilities.

Finally, we're working together with Tubbutec on one more *extremely* cool final feature, that is hopefully just days away from being ready to test. Never like to announce things till I'm 100% sure that they'll be in the product, so stay tuned....

More info and all future updates will be available at https://defectiverecords.com/mc2oh2hack .

• Get and send pattern, song, set or all data from/to the MC-2oh2 via SysEx • Load and save pattern, song, set or all data from/to disk • Edit MC-2oh2 patterns in the software, not on your MC-2oh2’s screen • Preview one or more MC-2oh2 patterns in realtime on the MC-2oh2, including all not...

Bump and Dan brought in a lot of the live acts that performed at Studio 10, the club that emerged from Cignel's ashes in Baltimore. Here's Ministry, with special guest Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy, with The Land of R**e and Honey which was the last, encore song, with a chaotic ending filled with stage diving and overall craziness. So I (Dan) have been going through old VHS tapes recently, and came across a recording of the old cable channel Tech TV (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TechTV) and the show "Fresh Gear", from March, 2003. I was like, "why did I save this?", then saw that it had a segment on the very first Final Scratch product, which I beta tested for Native Instruments. Ah, so that was it, I said. But then boom - at the 1:45 mark, I *really* saw why I saved it! 😀
