So, I realized recently that one of my websites (the one about ptbarnum) had expired, and someone had bought it out from under me! Just missed the deadline for getting it back. I had that URL for 20+ years!

Circus festival this weekend here in Barcelona. It's about 15 minutes from my house Festival Circorts "El festival de circ de Barcelona". But somehow I didn't know about it!

I have lived in Barcelona now for 3 years, and it never ceases to amaze me how festivals get by my radar. I have my antennas tuned for circus and theatre festivals, but somehow I just discovered this circus festival happening this weekend. It is about 15 blocks from my house, and in it's 25th year, which means that for at least 3 years it happened under my clown nose. ...

The LONDON INTERNATIONAL MIME FESTIVAL has released a free video stream fo two master clowns, Jos Houben and Marcello Magni, in their show Marcel. It's available through February 5 for free. You should definitely see it if you can! It's a master class in chemistry in clown duos.

Marcello Magni & Jos Houben, original members of Complicite, have a free online screening of their last piece for the London Mime Festival. Magni died in 2022.

Trigger Warning: clown and su***de.

This piece was part of the cabaret at the Festival of Fools. It's clearly part of a larger piece and it was kind of shoe horned into the cabaret slightly weirdly, because it has so much context ahead of it. I was very intrigued by it, not for the least reason that one of my shows also deals obliquely with the idea of clown su***de. I would like to see the rest, even though I don't 100% understand the spoken text. It was very different than most of the other stuff in the cabaret. This is more clown theatre than clown number.

I review the book Compleat Fools by Johnny Melville and Michael Evans. It's a complete and thorough first hand history of the Fools Festival (in Amsterdam and elsewhere) from 1975-84, with full posters and programs and memories by most of the players.

Highly recommend!

Amsterdam's Compleat Fools is a comprehensive and engaging history of the Festival of Fools from 1978-84, using first hand sources and lots of ephemera.

"There are a lot of bad clowns" I get quoted in the Chicago Sun-Times, and while I was not misquoted,the headline doesn't exactly say what I was getting at.

Attended the opening night show of the Festival of Fools in Barcelona, put on by Nouveau Clown Institute and Jango Edwards.
