Here are a couple of tips for overcoming imposter syndrome in veterinary school, or any school tbh. It is totally normal to experience this, I have myself! Having resources to reference in your time of need is incredibly helpful.

🐶 Recognize and Acknowledge It: Recognize when you are experiencing self-doubt and acknowledge it as a common issue among high achievers. Simply acknowledging that you are experiencing imposter syndrome can diminish its power over you.

🐭 Challenge Negative Thoughts: Challenge irrational thoughts and replace them with more realistic and positive ones. Keep a record of your achievements, positive feedback, and successes to remind yourself of your capabilities.

🐮 Set Realistic Goals: Divide large goals into smaller, manageable tasks to make them less overwhelming. Acknowledge and celebrate even small accomplishments to build confidence over time.

🐔 Seek Support: Discuss your feelings with trusted friends, classmates, or mentors. Sharing your experiences can provide reassurance and perspective. Consider seeking counseling or therapy if imposter syndrome significantly impacts your mental health and well-being.

🐸 Focus on Learning and Growth: Emphasize learning and personal growth over perfection. Understand that mistakes are part of the learning process. Focus on gradual improvement and skills development rather than immediate mastery.

🐴 Avoid Comparisons: Avoid comparing yourself to others. Remember that each person has a unique journey with different strengths and weaknesses. Measure your progress against your own past performances, not against your peers.

VET GIRL JOURNAL ✨📓
This past week, I took a 1 week selective course on companion animal euthanasia. Reflecting on my journey through the CAETA course fills me with a profound sense of gratitude and accomplishment. Completing this course has not only deepened my understanding of the complexities surrounding end-of-life care for our beloved animal companions but has also equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to approach this sensitive aspect of veterinary medicine with compassion and professionalism.

Upon graduation, I will be receiving a CPEV certification as I am empowered to provide comfort and support to both pets and their families during this difficult time. I am grateful for the invaluable guidance and insights gained from this course, which will undoubtedly shape my practice and contribute to the well-being of animals and their caregivers for years to come.

I know this is a sensitive topic so viewer discretion is advised.

Just wanted to share two flyers/handouts that I’ve made this semester for two of my classes.

PET DENTAL HEALTH - In my intro to clinical and professional communications class, we were assigned to create a client-friendly educational handout, dental health being one of the topics. The handout needed to included 3 main take away messages and be simple enough for a 6-7th grader to understand. How do yall think I did?

BRUCELLOSIS - In my epidemiology and public health class, we were tasked with creating a poster to inform the public about a zoonotic disease, focusing on the disease transmission, disease prevention, and proper biosecurity measures. I chose brucellosis with my target audience being farmers.

I thought I’d share these, as I put effort into both and am happy with the finished product. I loved designing these and I hope you were able to learn something for them. :)
