There is something special about today.

Firstly Thank You to all service men present and past. Today, especially, we remember the fallen and remember to be grateful for the life we get to live NOW because of the sacrifice they made.

We also take care and remembering the mate you know who suffers on this day due to PTSD, which is very REAL and something as simple as saying “hey mate, thank you for serving and being brave,” can help them with whatever they are feeling today.

Willem served 7 years in RAN. We have fathers, uncles, aunties and brothers who also served in the forces. It’s close to our hearts and today we remember all of them. ♥️

We had high speed internet on the Nullarbor with RV dish.

So many have asked us seeing it in our photos and while camping near us.

Definitely is an investment for us to have internet wherever we are as work online.

This is a prehistoric rainforest. It’s easy to get ‘lost’ in a fantasy while walking to Russell falls, horseshoe falls and taking the circuit through some of the world’s Tallest trees to Lady Barron falls. All up taking 2.5 hours

We are fully self-contained and off-grid so we don’t need any facilities for a few days. This simple site in a paddock is all we need.

📍Hippo’s Yawn - it’s pretty cool how nature has a way to present itself in ways we can interpret it and tell stories.

If you’re at Wave Rock Hyden, be sure to walk the extra few hundred metres or drive to the carpark to see the Hippo’s yawn.

Salt pond - Wave Rock
Is it all that?

For $10 & $5 pp (A & C) we think the price is a bit steep but we realise the work put in to make this an experience not many can have and helps the town of Hyden. We trust the fees will go towards the ongoing renovations for future visitors.

The experience itself, pretty cool to float so easily, basically feeling weightless.

The kids were a bit hesitant, not understanding. They both can swim but anything other than clear swimming pool they want a floaty..

When they realised their floating without trying, it was go-go-go.

🚿 shower and toilet at every hut, though not all toilets were open.

Shades/huts to sit and enjoy a picnic perhaps.

“How do we get to the pond and magic lake?”

Pay for access key at kiosk at caravan park (near wave rock car park).

Across from the road of kiosk, there is a boom gate to access the road to lake magic and salt pond, as well as Wave rock resort.

A day of driving and exploring this beautiful piece of Broome and one of its famous gems!

The area is home to many wildlife, especially birds. Be sure to not disturb their habitat (drones, we stayed off the beach with ours).

Votes now open.. who did it better ? How good is a shower out in the open air?

It’s such a good touch to the stay - just the way we like it. We grew up in farming community and even now, where a donkey is used and outdoor showers are a common thing.

We stayed on site G23 which meant our closest showers were the lava trees. How lucky were we?

Stay at Mt Barnett Roadhouse/Manning Campground & take the walk early in the morning, spend the day at the gorge with a picnic, walking back after heat of the day.

Long walk but so rewarding!

Top spot with flushing long drops 💩 (happy campers) and AMAZING views of sunrise and sunset on/over Mt Robinson.

Plenty of space especially for big rigs.
1km off the N1 Great Northern highway.
Good Hiking for a sunset or early morning walk.

📍 Mt Robinson rest area - CANNOT believe it’s a FREE spot! SAVE this one for later!

Although we didn’t see any because it was cold night and morning (when they usually come out), beware of Dingos 🐾.

Looking for a FREE camp on the Great Northern highway?

📍Gascoyne River (Middle Branch) FREE camp

This is a pretty epic spot next to the river on the N1 between Meekatharra and Newman.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Karijini via Newman back in July.

Different from a lot of free stopovers, this one has river view sites, amazing birdlife around and highway not too noisy.

Kids and Willem skid clay rocks on the river and watched oversized trucks come over the bridge.

Save this one as a stopover for your next trip to Karijini 👌🏻

After nearly two months on the road… here’s a dose of reality.

Yes we get to see amazing places.
Yes we are together everyday.
Yes we share special moments.
Yes we get to follow the sun.
Yes we get to experience ‘holiday’ everyday.
Yes we don’t need to work a 9-5.
Yes we chase waterfalls and beaches most days.

BUT in reality this is still living. We’re not on a holiday. We bicker, we have kids who don’t want to eat their dinner. We have sad times, and we have days where we need to save water so a hot long shower is a not an option.

We probably have more mozzie and midgie bites than we would’ve had in a house.

The car is dirty all the time. The washing and dishes are still everyday chores. We rarely get a moment to ourselves.

So in reality, it’s not sunshine and roses, but it’s what you make it.

We choose to focus on the things we are grateful for and while living the lifestyle we are.. it’s easier to get outdoors and walk along the beach or in nature to recalibrate your heart and mind.

The last month and a bit has taught us so much about each other, our goals, and we can only imagine what the rest of our journey will enable us to achieve.

What’s the biggest realisation you experienced while travelling full time?

Time is the greatest gift you can give someone. Time is something you can’t get back and is something you should share in ways it matters most to you.

We are on a mission to get more family time together. We are on a mission to live a lifestyle that allows us to have better quality family time. We are trekking Aus in our and having the time of our lives.. but most importantly time with each other!!

Where to stay near Karijini for FREE?

📍 Albert Tognolini Rest area - Find on

This is a free camp 34km north of Karijini drive on the Great Northern Highway.

We were smitten with the scenery and nature surrounding us, and could’ve stayed here for a few nights.

🚙 no need for a 4x4,
🌳 shady spots
🔥 allowed
🐕 pet friendly
🚶🏼walking/hiking trails
🚙 4wd tracks
💧 self contained vehicles ONLY

Remember to clean up after you and if you have little ones, keep an eye out as it is on edge of high & steep hills. Camping spots available further from edge.

A wrong turn

On Day 2 we left to reach Mt Magnet and when we got to Wubin, we missed the turn off and took a different route towards Mt Magnet.

Realising only after we were half way there… so we couldn’t turn back..

If we didn’t miss the turn we wouldn’t have seen Farmer Jack’s ruins or have stayed at this epic free spot.

How good are the sunsets in the outback?

It is Time!!

Finally some will say.. 😂 (you know who you are)

We have left Mandurah and headed north in search for more sun and fun!

This morning it didn’t quite feel real yet as we were still scrambling to pack the last bits and bobs..

BUT as soon as we hit the open road, ALL the anxiousness just went away and we realised there is no waiting anymore..

This is it. We are finally taking the van we built and our beautiful & excited two kids around Aus🫶🏼

It’s an amazing feeling of gratitude when you stop and realise your WHY all over again.

The paw paw hits the fan…

We went from feeling excited and ready to leave on Monday - with the taste of freedom as real as an orange peel.

But.. we got knocked down with influenza - extreme phlegm, shivers alternating with hot fevers, major coughing, body aches and nausea.

It is not fun and have put us behind schedule, like we needed it 😤. At one point I did get really down, thinking will we ever get away this year???

But I never get too frustrated as I believe everything happens for a reason.

So our leave date has just moved to the end of the week, until we’re all better..

Praying it’s all over soon and we get to start this amazing journey as a little family.

What we love about HipCamps? They usually have the farm feel. Being both born in small country towns and farm life making up a big part of our up bringing meant that this gem was right up there… From the moment you enter the first gate to the luscious green farm where horses come running to the fence to greet you. Followed by the host on a Cam Am showing you to your spot… While setting up camp the sheep are baaing in the paddock and river streams are calling your name for an afternoon stroll along the banks. .. And did I mention.. Waking up with the sound of lambs calling their mothers and Kookaburras alarming the Sunrise. In the winter fires are permitted. Fully self contained only. Where is this one? So excited! We were very worried when we first received the fridge that it wouldn’t fit through the caravan door. Most caravan manufacturers put fridge in before they put the walls/roof on. 🙈 Well we’re amateurs and now we know for next time! 🤣 It’s fast becoming SUPER real! Wandering outdoors recharges the soul. ✨As cliché as it sounds.. it definitely makes a difference to our moods as a family and I can assume to most humanity too. We’ll be travelling Aus starting our lap in next couple of weeks and we cannot wait to get annoyed with flies in the outback and sit hours in the car staring out the window at the scenery of the same outback.. #realtalk We will not be having the best of times.. TAKE A RISK or don’t … Still quite in disbelief we actually did/are building a caravan from scratch. It’s been SUPER challenging .. and we’ve thought “what the heck did we think?” BUT if you don’t take a risk, a challenge, do something others aren’t doing or you haven’t done before… you’re not growing, or innovating and life simply is just.. We are pinching ourselves on the daily, meditating on how far we have come and what we’ve achieved and the real FUN part hasn’t even begun! I still can’t imagine the day we actually take it on the open road to travel full time.. which isn’t very far off. Hipcamp with Family! Couldn’t have asked for a better FIRST offgrid experience in our van! Hipcamp Australia in Donnybrook We had no reception and no one around for few hundred metres.. so pure bliss, offgrid, offline and simply each other’s company. Everyone in Anneke’s family, who lives in Aus, was there to enjoy it with us. We enjoyed our first shower in the van, and the flushing toilet was like luxury! Why we started hustling

‘NETFLIX & CHILL’.... Ahhhh that old saying...

Hustle & Chill today because we decided to get ourselves into gear and start living the way we need to for the next 5 years to be able to retire early and not have to work till we are 70. We want to enjoy time with our kids and family whenever we want to. Not just when we get to take a holiday from the 9-5. We decided to stop what was keeping us occupied (e.g. Netflix) and start Hustling so that we can CHILL (I know what you’re thinking, no... just relaxing) more often.

Our goals and plans for the future are simple.
