Access Bank, a Nigerian lender, is set to acquire the National Bank of Kenya (NBK) from the KCB Group, marking its second acquisition in Kenya in less than five years. This move is part of Access Bank’s African expansion strategy and is expected to reposition it as a significant player in the Kenyan market.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals from the central banks of Kenya and Nigeria, will see NBK combined with Access Bank Kenya Plc to create an enlarged franchise. The acquisition presents a compelling opportunity to scale up growth in the East African market.

Despite the complexities of the transaction, Access Bank remains confident that its investments towards diversifying and strengthening the bank’s long-term earnings profile will deliver significant value for its shareholders, customers, and wider stakeholder groups.

Prince Harry is reportedly concerned for Kate Middleton following her surgery and the intense media scrutiny surrounding her absence. A source close to the Duke of Sussex told Page Six he's "distracted" with worry, particularly about "untrue" conspiracy theories.

This resonates with Harry, who, along with Meghan Markle, famously stepped back from royal duties due to media pressure. However, the source clarifies Harry doesn't believe "any hint of scandal" surrounding Kate.

Despite his concern, Harry was recently spotted vacationing in Aspen with celebrities like Kris Jenner's boyfriend Corey Gamble. While he might be worried, it seems Harry isn't letting it disrupt his life.

Kanye West and Bianca Censori are back together after a reported break, and their latest outing is grabbing headlines. Censori turned heads in a shockingly sheer black ensemble, strategically accessorized with her phone for a touch of modesty. Kanye sported an all-black look, with a surprise detail: Nike gloves, hinting at a potential shift in his brand allegiances.

Their reunion comes amidst Bianca's family visit, where she was spotted in a more conservative pink mini-dress. However, it seems Bianca's signature style remains bold, pushing boundaries with each daring outfit choice.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has confirmed the restoration of voice and data services following disruptions caused by undersea cable cuts. The cuts, which occurred on March 14 on the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal, significantly impacted data and voice services.

Dr Reuben Muoka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, announced that services have been restored to approximately 90% of their peak utilization capacities. He added that all operators affected by the cuts have taken recovery capacity from submarine cables not impacted by the cuts.

Mobile network operators (MNOs) have assured the commission that data and voice services will operate optimally, pending full repairs of the undersea cables. They have activated alternative connectivities to normalize the situation.

Dr Muoka extended appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre cuts.

Rumors are swirling about a potential romance between Drake and Brooklyn Nikole, sister of rapper Latto. The speculation was fueled by Nikole’s recent Instagram post featuring a “Clayco” water bottle, a reference to Drake’s lyrics in “act ii: date @ 8”. The lyric, “What kind of water they serving in Clayco?”, is a nod to Latto and Nikole’s hometown of Brooklyn.

While some fans interpret Nikole’s post as a confirmation of the rumored relationship, others suggest it’s merely an expression of support for Drake’s lyrical shoutout to her hometown. As the online buzz continues, the truth behind the Drake-Nikole connection remains to be seen.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his rule after a stage-managed election devoid of credible opposition. Early results indicate a predictably large victory for Putin, with him leading with 87.3% of the vote. This result ensures Putin’s rule until at least 2030, marking his third full decade of power.

Most opposition candidates were either dead, jailed, exiled, or barred from running. With dissent effectively outlawed in Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Putin faced no credible challenge to his rule.

Despite the inevitable result, the ritual of elections is crucially important to the Kremlin as a means of confirming Putin’s authority. The election was held every four years before the law was changed in 2008 to extend presidential terms to six years.

Colombian pop star Shakira has candidly discussed the sacrifices she made for her relationship with ex Gerard Piqué. In a recent interview with The Times UK, Shakira revealed she put her career on hold to support Piqué’s football career, stating, “For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so that he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love.”

The couple, who share two sons, ended their relationship after 11 years in June 2020. Since moving to Miami in early 2023, Shakira has found her career revitalized, with increased opportunities for collaboration and access to professional resources.

However, Shakira also highlighted the challenges of juggling her career with being a single mom, telling Billboard, “Now I can release music at a faster clip, although sometimes I think being a single mom and the rhythm of a pop star aren’t compatible.”

A potential scarcity of e-passport booklets is looming due to the non-payment of a significant production debt to vendors and stakeholders in the travel document’s value chain. The Federal Government’s monthly deduction of 50% from the income paid into the Nigeria Immigration Service’s (NIS) Treasury Single Account (TSA) from passport sales is exacerbating the situation.

An anonymous source at the NIS headquarters revealed that the government, which regards the money as net income, takes out 50% before the income drops, leaving the NIS with insufficient funds to service their vendors and stakeholders involved in the passport production process.

The officer confirmed a current shortage of the 32-page booklets across the 48 passport-issuing outlets outside Nigeria and the 44 outlets in the country. However, there is an excess of the 64-page booklets, but the demand for it is very low.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the recent attack on soldiers in Delta State, describing it as a direct assault on Nigerians. The incident, which occurred on March 14, 2024, resulted in the loss of over a dozen military personnel during a rescue mission in the Okuoma community.

Tinubu stated, “The cowardly offenders responsible for this heinous crime will not go unpunished.” He has given the military high command full authority to bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident underscores the risks faced by servicemen and women in the line of duty, and the President saluted their heroism and patriotism.

The President extended his profound condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and reaffirmed his commitment to achieving peace and tranquility in every part of Nigeria. He emphasized that any attack on the armed forces is a direct attack on the nation.

The Federal Government has initiated a nationwide mass metering project, starting with the Nigerian army formations. The project, part of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, aims to end estimated billings in the power sector.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced the commencement of the project at the 9th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ikeja military cantonment. The project, which will be executed in phases, has an initial budget of N12.7 billion.

The smart meters being installed are tamper-proof and allow interconnectivity between grid and off-grid solar power supply. This initiative is expected to ensure regular electricity supply to army formations nationwide.

The second phase of the project will begin simultaneously in Abuja and Enugu. All military formations across the 11 DisCos will benefit from the exercise.

In a sensational turn of events, Jake Paul is set to fight boxing legend Mike Tyson at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas on July 20. Despite a 30-year age gap, with Paul at 27 and Tyson at 57, the fight promises to be a thrilling spectacle.

The event, to be held at the 80,000-seater home of the Dallas Cowboys, will be streamed live on Netflix. Paul, who recently won against Ryan Bourland, expressed his excitement on Instagram, vowing to put ‘Iron Mike’ to sleep.

Tyson, the former heavyweight champion, returned to the ring in 2020 for an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. It remains unclear whether this bout will be categorized as a professional fight or an exhibition event.

Paul, transitioning from YouTuber to boxer, has a record of 9-1 with six KOs. His victories include wins over former UFC stars Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley.

Netflix, partnering with Paul’s ‘Most Valuable Promotions’, marks another foray into live sports broadcasting.

Rapper Kodak Black, fresh from a brief jail stint, has welcomed his fourth child, Prince Kapri. The Florida rapper shared an adorable moment with his newborn son, whom he delivered himself. Kodak’s girlfriend, Maranda Johnson, shared pictures of the father and son dressed in matching blue at the hospital.

“I’m happy to be home with my family and my new son,” Kodak told TMZ. “It was very special to help deliver a new soul into the world. I know he’s going to be a special person.”

The birth comes amidst Kodak’s legal troubles. Despite having his drug charges dismissed and pleading guilty to a parole violation, the rapper was seen attacking a camera operator shortly after his release. A police report has been filed against him for the incident.

As Kodak celebrates the arrival of Prince Kapri, he faces the challenge of balancing fatherhood with his ongoing legal issues.

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to face MMA superstar Francis Ngannou in a titanic clash dubbed ‘Knockout Chaos’ in Saudi Arabia. The fight, viewed by some as high-risk for Joshua, comes after his three straight victories following back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

The winner of this bout could potentially face the victor of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, an opportunity Joshua has been chasing. However, a loss could leave Joshua contemplating retirement.

Tyson Fury, attending to support his brother Roman, has made his presence felt, engaging in a heated exchange with Ngannou at the press conference. Despite this, Joshua and Ngannou have kept their interactions cordial, promising an ‘all-out war’ and a show for the fans.

As we approach ‘Knockout Chaos’, the two heavyweights will come face-to-face once more at the weigh-in, setting the stage for an explosive showdown.

Carrie Reichert, a former exotic dancer, has announced plans to release explicit photos of Prince Harry on OnlyFans. Reichert claims to have partied with the royal during his 2012 visit to Las Vegas and has “nice pictures of him in the buff” to prove it. These photos, she says, have never been seen by the public.

Reichert kept the photos private for 12 years out of respect for Harry and his family. However, her opinion of the Duke of Sussex has recently changed. “He is a bloody idiot,” she stated, expressing her anger about being omitted from Harry’s 2023 memoir.

Reichert plans to post the photos as an act of revenge, promising to reveal more than what the public knows. She might even do a video rundown of what happened that night. “I’d love to see a couple of million come out of this,” she said.

When asked how Meghan might feel about the plan, Reichert responded, “If she wants to see her husband back in his glory days then she’ll have to subscribe and pay.”

Bandits stormed the LEA Primary School in Kutiga, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting approximately 100 pupils and the head teacher. The incident, which occurred at 8:20 am on Thursday, caused pandemonium as pupils fled their classrooms upon sighting the bandits.

Eyewitnesses reported that the abducted victims were marched into the forest. One pupil was also shot during the invasion. The exact number of abductees remains unconfirmed, but residents estimate it to be around 100.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, has yet to respond to the incident. Similarly, there has been no official reaction from the state government or the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan.

This incident underscores the escalating insecurity in the region, which previously led to the relocation of junior and secondary schools to the school building inside Kuriga town.

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, has labeled the current minimum wage of N30,000 per month as a “starvation wage” for federal and state government employees. This statement was made during the North East Zonal Public Hearing of the Tripartite Committee of the National Minimum Wage in Yola.

Ajaero emphasized the impact of inflation on the current wage, stating, “What they call minimum wage is now starvation wage,” and added that the average worker spends all their wage on transportation, leaving them helpless for other needs.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, acknowledged the suffering of Nigerians and praised President Bola Tinubu for initiating a review of the national minimum wage. The public hearing was attended by delegates from six states of the North East.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has vehemently denied any association with the Saraki Senate. This rebuttal came in response to Senator Ali Ndume’s assertion during a discussion on the country’s escalating security issues. Ndume, representing Borno South, stated, “Our security [agencies] have the capability. All they need is training, equipment, motivation. That’s what they need. But we can do it.”

Ndume further reminded Akpabio of his role as a Minority Leader in the Saraki Senate, to which Akpabio retorted, “I was a part of Nigerian Senate, not Saraki’s Senate. If you said I was part of Saraki’s Senate, it means I was part of those who paid 40% on Constituency project and 60% was not being paid till today, I don’t want to be part of that.”

This statement has sparked a wave of reactions, further fueling the ongoing debate about the country’s security situation and the role of the Senate in addressing it.

Kristen Stewart, the 33-year-old Twilight alum, turned heads at the premiere of ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ in Los Angeles. The Oscar-nominated actress stunned in a barely-there black bodysuit, sheer stockings, and high black heels, complemented by a casually draped black tuxedo jacket.

The star-studded event saw the likes of Jena Malone, Katy O’Brian, Anna Baryshnikov, Rose Glass, Thora Birch, Jackson Rathbone, and Catherine Hardwicke. The film, written and directed by Rose Glass, features Stewart as Lou, a gym manager entangled in a passionate yet dark love story.

Stewart’s bold red carpet appearance follows her recent Rolling Stones cover, where she donned a jockstrap and basketball shorts. Speaking at the Berlinale International Film Festival, she said, “The existence of a female body thrusting any type of sexuality at you that’s not designed for exclusively straight males is something people are not super comfy with and so I’m really happy with it.”

Cardi B is standing her ground amidst social media criticism, particularly from fellow rapper BIA, as she gears up for her upcoming single release. BIA recently deleted all tweets related to Cardi B and interacted with Cardi’s long-time rival, Nicki Minaj, sparking speculation of a feud.

BIA dismissed the rumors, stating, “Sweetie, I didn’t switch up on anybody because I don’t know Cardi in real life. I’ve never met Cardi, we’ve never had a conversation.” Despite BIA’s insistence that it’s all love, Cardi B seems to disagree.

In a tweet seemingly shading BIA, Cardi wrote, “Bches make a fool of themselves every single time. Ima show ya something when I release this song tho." This comes after BIA responded to a post accusing Cardi of drawing inspiration from her for an upcoming song. Cardi’s latest track, “Like What (Freestyle),” samples Missy Elliott’s 1999 hit, "She’s A Bch,” a song BIA also sampled last summer.

In an exclusive interview, renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan shared insights into the production of the Anikulapo series. Afolayan emphasized the importance of telling our own stories to prevent misrepresentation of our culture and people.

The series, which Afolayan has worked on for over seven years, is just the beginning of a story he believes will continue. “This might be bigger than Game of Thrones,” he said, highlighting the richness of African stories yet to be fully explored.

Afolayan sees the series as a representation of who we are as Africans, Nigerians, Yoruba, and human beings. He revealed that the series will evolve to include English dialogue and touch on the colonial era.

“This is going to outlive me. Mark this day, mark today’s date,” Afolayan said, underscoring the enduring impact he envisions for the Anikulapo series.

Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, reached an all-time high of $69,000, fueled by an influx of investments from baby boomers. This resurgence comes after a two-year slump, often referred to as the ‘crypto winter’, and surpasses its previous peak of $69,202 from November 2021.

The surge was triggered by the US securities regulator’s approval of 11 Bitcoin Exchange Trade Funds (ETFs), enabling Bitcoin to be bought and sold like stocks. This move opened up the cryptocurrency market to a new demographic of investors, specifically those aged between 60 and 78.

Michael Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Investment Partners, commented on this trend, saying, “Baby boomers own most of the wealth in America and they’re getting their first easy access to Bitcoin and you’re seeing it through these ETFs.”

This development has allowed less tech-savvy boomers to have better access to buy and track Bitcoin, leading to a shift in retirement fund investments from traditional stock exchanges to cryptocurrency.

The Lagos State government, in collaboration with Success Box, has awarded N2 million to outstanding students in the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The beneficiaries, who emerged from six educational districts, were recognized at an event held at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alausa, Ikeja.

State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, commended the awardees for their achievements and highlighted the government’s commitment to developing its educational system. “The Lagos State government can boast of standard public schools that can be compared to other schools in the world,” Alli-Balogun said.

Oluwatosin Koyejo, the CEO of Chronicles Software Development Company, explained that the Success Box Academic Excellence Award aims to celebrate students in Lagos State public schools for their academic strides. “The goal is to ensure that students who have done extremely well are rewarded,” Koyejo added.

The ongoing trial of Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, for alleged cybercrime offenses was stalled on Wednesday at a Federal High Court in Lagos. The delay is due to a pending application for fiat before the Chief Judge (CJ) of the court, which is awaiting approval.

Prosecutor Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari informed Justice Isaac Dipeolu of the situation, leading to the case’s adjournment until May 30. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Naira Marley on charges bordering on cybercrime, alleging that he and his accomplices used different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud victims.

The singer, known for his hit song “Am I a Yahoo Boy,” pleaded not guilty when arraigned on May 20, 2019, before Justice Nicholas Oweibo. The case was later transferred to Justice Dipeolu following Justice Oweibo’s transfer out of the Lagos division of the court.

In a bid to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Federal Government has handed over 200 refurbished stores to 400 entrepreneurs at the Asero Adire market in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Vice President Kashim Shettima announced this initiative at the second edition of the Expanded National MSME Clinics in Abeokuta.

The beneficiaries will use the stores free of charge for a year, after which they will be charged discounted rates. “This journey further reinforces my conviction that our paramount responsibility as a government is to persist in crafting an enabling environment that allows these small businesses not only to thrive but also to expand their horizons,” Shettima said.

The Vice President also commissioned two projects – an ultra-modern fashion hub for MSMEs and the refurbished Asero Adire market. This initiative is part of the Tinubu administration’s efforts to foster an ecosystem where innovation flourishes and the entrepreneurial spirit of Nigeria shines brightly on the global stage.
