It's been a while since my last post, but here's a documentary about Hong Kong which was produced in 1997. It was given to me by a subscriber who presumably worked on the production, as the VHS tape was timecoded. Enjoy!

🎉 🎉 600 videos uploaded! 🎉 🎉

I’ve just uploaded video number 600 to my Hong Kong TV Time Machine YouTube channel. Thanks to everyone who has followed and subscribed over the years.

This started as a project back in 2013 when I found a bunch of old VHS tapes in Sham Shui Po’s Apliu Street market. They were full of English language Hong Kong TV dating back to the early 80s. It was a fascinating glimpse into British governed Hong Kong and its unique mix of east meets west.

At the time, there were no channels on YouTube with old English HK TV so I felt compelled to upload them. To me, it seemed important to preserve the media of this significant, by-gone era of Hong Kong history.

As the channel grew, people reached out to me to donate VHS tapes. I’ve met some great people over the years and it’s always nice when users comment with an anecdote about a certain advert or show. The channel seems to give people a lot of joy and nostalgia and that makes it all worthwhile.

I don’t upload as frequently as I’d like to, but as long as I have tapes to upload (and there are MANY still to process!) the project will continue.

Occasionally I get messages from people who starred in adverts as a child asking if I have a copy of it. I wonder if anyone in this group knows the kids in this ad?
