The writing workshop ‘Letters of Disappointment’ takes as its point of departure the growing collection of letters of Dora García, that spawned the issue of Girls Like Us Magazine under the same title. Guided by Dutch writer Persis Bekkering, participants will work on a letter of their own, experiencing the mobilising potential of voicing disappointment.

Amor Rojo by Dora García
18.30-20.30
film screening and Q&A
voluntary contribution, reserve your tickets here
Can love also become a weapon? In Amor Rojo, Dora García uses the historical figure of Alexandra Kollontai (1872-1952), a Marxist theorist and Soviet revolutionary, radical feminist, and s*x activist, as a guide to walk the labyrinth of female freedom and s*xual emancipation.

WORD IS OUT
AND issue #14 LETTERS OF DISAPPOINTMENT soon as well!!

The feeling of disappointment is not only close to regret, sadness, and dissatisfaction – a feeling of loss, an uncomfortable space (or a painful gap) between expectations and reality – we also understand it as a rattling in the rusty machinery of a society whose fuel is extraction and oppression.
Considered an ‘ugly feeling’ by society’s norm, we’re not supposed to vocalize what and who is letting us down. We’re supposed to stay positive, get organized and act, instead of lingering in negative emotions. We’re supposed to be productive. But making space for disappointment can be a strategy of dissensus. Instead of wallowing in impotence, to make explicit what is not meeting expectations for this world can be an act of renouncing and making cracks in the status quo, while not giving up allegiance that another world is possible.

WE JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH!

A 3 chapter conversation on q***r spaces & clubbing in collaboration with via link in bio 🦄

We invited some of our favourite organizers of q***r spaces to talk about how they do it. Talk about how they create these spaces for dancing, meeting and exchange online or irl. We wanted to get to know how they started and how they deal with the responsibility to create safer spaces and exchange strategies for that. We wanted to talk about how we can form collectives and find like minded people in this process. We wanted to exchange memories of sweaty nights on the dancefloor but also of lonely quarantine nights and not so lonely virtual meet-ups.

Chapter 1 – ._ about le***an* bars and the q***r club scene

Katarina Bonnevier & Therese Kristiansson from q***r architecture collective Mycket, who also guest edited our latest issue “When Walls Speak”. They dedicated the issue to their 7 year research into the concept of the q***r nightclub as a safer space and how to create rooms that support discussion, that inspire dreams and utopias.

Chapter 2 – and about q***r dancing futures and other fantasies

DJ Ilenia Arosio from Milan based collective TOMBOYS DON’T CRY and DJ Jesse Gravina from the Berlin based collective SieistguterJunge. We talk about the q***r dance and techno scene in Berlin and exchange experiences of online and offline dancing, DJing.

Chapter 3 – .app about virtual communities and q***r online spaces

Kell Rakowski, the founder and CEO at LEX, a text based q***r dating and social app that’s inspired by old newspaper personal ads from magazines like On Our Backs, a women-run erotica magazine of the ’80s and 90’s. We discuss online spaces and how they can help us form communities and finding friends and lovers and talk about what role social media and le$beans on TikTok, play in our q***r lives.
