MOTSWAKO MAESTRO LECTION: PAVING THE WAY FOR EVOLUTION IN HIP HOP CULTURE

Motswako and Hip Hop artist lection , born in Luka village in Rustenburg and raised primarily in Mafikeng, shared pivotal moments from his journey. He noted the discovery of rapping comfortably in his mother tongue as a significant turning point, stating, "Motswako hits home to most people cos it’s so relatable and ‘konnects’." Reflecting on his roles as both a Motswako artist and producer, Lection expressed that the balance comes naturally due to his passion for both, likening rap to talking and breathing, and producing to dancing and rhythm.

Recalling a standout performance in Botswana introduced by the late Jabba aka HHP to a crowd of 8000+, Lection emphasized the importance of stage presence and crowd control, citing it as a pivotal lesson in his musical growth. Joining the Mmabana Arts, Culture & Sports Foundation Talent Search campaign, Lection aimed to create a platform for undiscovered talent, stating, "What I hope to achieve is to reach a larger audience to be able to create a platform for undiscovered talent and grant them a fair shot really."

Interactions with industry experts like Khuli Chana have taught Lection the business end of the industry, emphasizing the importance of learning the market and understanding contracts. Offering advice to aspiring artists, he stressed the significance of studying the industry and knowing the terminology to avoid pitfalls. Infusing his cultural heritage into his music by predominantly rapping in his mother tongue, Lection aims to convey positivity through his lyrics.

Envisioning the future of Motswako rap, Lection highlighted the need for evolution, expressing his desire to be at the forefront of its progression. Beyond music, he expressed interest in exploring film and photography. Regarding upcoming projects, Lection encouraged fans to follow him on social media for updates but assured them of his ongoing work in recording new music and experimenting with new ideas.
