The Young Generation’s Note is a journal set up by young migrants in Mae Sot, a small town on the Thai-Burma border. Since its start in mid-2011 we have produced monthly journals full of content created by and for migrants and refugees – news, stories, articles, poems, photography, cartoons and more.

• and we aim to strengthen the fractured Burmese community

Media training

And we’ve begun to grow. We have recently started offering free media training for migrants and refugees in creative writing, photography, video-making and more. Through the training:
• we aim to create a sustainable future of creative and empowered young people
• we train people to think analytically
• we help people understand the power of the media

The impact

Every day we see the magazine attracting more and more readers and support. It’s building confidence and raising the aspirations of the Burmese migrants and refugees trapped here in Thailand. But the impact reaches further. The young migrants and refugees here desperately want to return home to Burma, and with their aspirations and the right media training they can help build a strong media, encourage better systems of government and help their country to develop.
