Isn't it ironic how women fight to wear pants caused an uproar and now men's fight to wear a dress causes the same response? If a woman can wear pants - a man can wear a dress -

That is what equality is all about.

It isn't giving women special status or permission to be male.

It's about allowing anyone and everyone to choose their path and be valued for their contributions to society no matter what.

You can't have a one sided equality - it goes both ways - or all ways.

There were times in history when the accepted form of dress for men was a dress, or high heels, or very fancy dress with lots of lace. Fashions change over time and it isn't like they are forcing other guy to wear a dress - so get over yourself.

The Story of Women discussion dives into our stories and how to craft them using a stronger narrative to connect with audiences.

Participants will learn how to construct a narrative using hero language instead of telling their story using victimhood language, which turns people away. In the process, they will begin to heal from trauma and learn to have a stronger voice for their own story.

Being "stuck" is something that sneaks up on you over time. Day after day, you might follow your same routines. Eventually, it feels like you aren't getting anywhere and you're just existing.

When you are stuck in a rut, you can usually get out of it by going out with friends, joining a new club, finding a new hobby. For some, the rut is so deep they can't see a way out and they feel trapped in their lives - no matter how good they've got it.

Have you ever felt like you were living in a rut? What did you do? - Be careful of what you wish for...

My young adult son says to me, “Let me understand this. My empathetic mother who cries when people share their stories, doesn’t empathize with the homeless?" A punch in my gut ...

My response was defensive because I do care about their situation.

“Mom, you’re sympathetic but you have no empathy for them.”

What was the difference and why were my solutions to the homeless situation reflecting a lack of empathy?

Stories are supposed to create empathy to build connection between the hero and the audience, which is why many brands are telling vulnerability stories on social media... some to disastrous results.

Recently, Braden Wallake, CEO of, HyperSocial posted a photo of him crying and the story he wrote about laying off employees resulted in being ridiculed by individuals jumping on a trend to get likes and comments on their own posts. Why did his attempt at telling a vulnerability story result in ridicule instead of empathy?

Since empathy is an important part of storytelling and the objective of brand storytelling, I thought I better dive in and figure out how it works and why it works to help you get the result you want.

Click to read how you can create an empathetic response by telling your brand stories.

“Why tell a brand story?” Brands need to tell stories to draw people in and captivate them.

Studies show that our attention span is less than a goldfish, but this isn’t true.

We have an attention span and can focus on things for longer than a New York minute. We just take a fraction of a second to determine if we want to pay attention to the thing in front of us, before moving onto the next interesting thing vying for our attention.

With so many brands competing for eyeballs on a small screen, audiences have an infinite amount of content to cast aside when looking for something interesting.

Due to marketers and advertisers using the same data to create their content and copying each other, it’s easy for people to swipe for the “NEXT” because we’ve seen it all before.

Read why a brand story helps stop the swipe for a few moments longer than this post.

Everyday we have moments of inspiration, disappointment, motivation, and distress. We are up, down, and tied in knots. So, why do we do we keep going, keep trying, and keep pushing forward?

For me, it's who I am - I'm a Ta**us born in the year of the Ox... I mean can you get anymore stubborn than that?

Even though I'm stubborn and keep doing the work, posting on social media, writing blog posts, finding backlinks, applying to guest on podcasts, blogs, shows, and speaking events ...

I do have moments when I want to throw in the towel and jump off the board.

But where would I land?

What motivates you to pick up the dice and take you turn hoping to land on a latter and not a snake?

For me... It's just doing the next task. To keep doing the work and in the work, I find inspiration.

The customer journey relies on the stories brands tell and their customers tell about them. What story does your favourite brand tell to catch your attention?

Your favourite brand can come to your mind in an instant, which brand did you think of right now, this minute? Why do some brands embed themselves in your mind while others slip through the cracks? Brand Story.

When brands tell a story they give you reasons to choose them to solve your problems and fulfil your needs. You find those threads in their story that you identify with and weave them into your own story creating a tapestry of your life, your self, your story.

Brands who do this well:

Apple
Nike
Pantegonia
Volkswagon
Tesla
Coke

Which brands do you think engage their customers enough to weave themselves into their lives?

Do you want to know what others said when I asked them why brand storytelling is the future of marketing? Thank you Chris Hood for having me on your Podcast to discuss how to tell the right story to the right audience! Understanding what motivates your ideal customer isn't easy because we are afraid to ask and miss out.

In the ever-evolving marketplace of the digital age, brands face the formidable challenge of reaching customers and resonating with them on a deeper level. The site Funnel Amplified shows that consistency in branding efforts can bolster a company’s revenue by up to 33%. This stat underscores the significance of a cohesive strategy in unlocking market appeal—a multifaceted approach that harmonizes technology, storytelling, and value alignment to meet and exceed customer expectations.

This week, Shannon Peel, author, speaker, and owner of MarketAPeel, joins us to discuss telling the right story to the right audience at the right time to gain the authority you need to build a trusted brand.

I enjoy a good story. But have you noticed stories are getting darker? 👿

There is a rise of the anti-hero in our pop culture. The popularity of shows like Game of Thrones, Squid Games, Breaking Bad, and Dexter reflect society's fascination with violence, crime, and redemption.

Now, I love fantasy fiction with flawed heroes who struggle to do the right thing and need to make amends for a dark past. Whether it's Logan in the First Blade Series, Tyrian in the Game of Thrones, or Royce in the Ryeria Chronicles. There is something about these anti-heroes that catches my attention. 😍..

Even when it comes to super heroes, I prefer Wolverine and Batman over Superman and Cyclops.

🤔 I often wonder what that says about me. 👹

By spending our money to satiate our human fascination with evil, violence, and a dark justice, do we embrace values we don't want to admit we have?

We watch shows that consistently tells us the solution to a hero's problems is violence. Hit first and maybe ask questions later.

Yet, when an action actor solves a real problem in the same manner as the hero he portrays in the movies - he is vilified for slapping a comedian who insulted his wife. I'm not saying slapping was the right choice -

I'm saying Hollywood teaches us violence is the answer and then punishes one of their own for resorting to violence... It is confusing.

And it's no different when we choose the true stories we watch, the stories of our reality.

Why are we obsessed with the darker side?

When negative things happen in this world we live in, we flock to the news to consume as many details as we can, the gorier the better, then we complain that the news is too negative.

We blame the media for telling us stories about real life devils instead of its heroes never admitting our choices determine what stories they tell. We respond to the sensational, the violent, the scary.

What do the stories we consume say about us and the values we hold?
