I've fallen down on the job. A few shows since I last posted! I've spoken with Thomas H. McNeely about his incredible story collection, Pictures of the Shark (Texas Review Press); Roseanne Montillo, author of dark but fascinating Deliberate Cruelty (Atria Books); NaNoWriMo participants and Vermont authors Dr. Millicent Eidson and Reina Pennington, publisher and new owner of Rootstock Publishing Samantha Kolber, and Andrew Liptak, author of the great nonfiction book, Cosplay (Gallery / Saga Press). I've also broadcast recorded panels on Memoir and Nonfiction from the inaugural Green Mountain Book Festival, which happened in the fall. So... lots to see! And more coming. Please forgive the hiatus. And check out all of the above and more at https://writethebook.podbean.com/

It was such a pleasure to interview one of my favorite authors, Karen Joy Fowler, whose new novel is Booth (Putnam Books). A work of historical fiction, the book concerns the family of Lincoln's famous assassin, John Wilkes Booth. I learned so much about our history, our still relevant simmering regional antagonism, and this famous family, about whom I'd known nothing. Give a listen wherever you find your podcasts. So glad to have finally begun to interview writers about journalistic and op-ed pieces in the news. On March 16th, Rachel Foster, co-founder and executive council co-chair of World Without Exploitation, wrote an opinion piece in VTDigger in the wake of Burlington’s vote to decriminalize prostitution. Hers is a different take than that of many progressives on this issue, and one I found interesting. This week, I interviewed Rachel Foster and Mary Speta, a researcher, educator, speaker and advocate in the movement to end commercial s*xual exploitation. A s*x trade survivor herself, Mary is Chief Impact Officer for Amirah, Inc an organization offering help to survivors of s*xual exploitation. Listen wherever you get your podcasts. I loved speaking with Kathryn Davis about her new book, Aurelia, Aurélia, which the LA Times calls “a glimmering memoir like none you’ve ever read” and The NY Times credits as mimicking “the atemporal quality of the episodes that bring meaning to life.”
