My newest video is finally complete and live: a symphonic take on Emerson, Lake and Palmer's sci-fi prog rock song Karn Evil 9.
ELP can be very everything but the kitchen sink in its musical vibe, so I tried to capture that sensibility here. This video is very me and blends art generated in Midjourney with heavy amounts of intricate video editing, animation and clips from a wide variety of movies. The only film I regret not including clips of is Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970) but it has imagery from a wide variety of sci-fi and anime films from the silent era to the early 1990s.
I did the basic cutting in Adobe Premiere Pro, some gradient and image editing in Photoshop and much of the animation was done in After Effects.
A lot of my obsessions are at work here: the apocalypse, our relationship to A.I., animation cuts, tokusatsu miniature work, gore, those freaky mechanical clowns they had at Coney Island, etc, it's all kinda present here. I tried to capture my interpretation of the song, which speaks of the human race's self-destructive tendencies and how our creation artificial intelligence probably isn't going to curb that.
