We’re catching up from a busy season on some amazing guests we have had on First Bite this past couple months.

First we have True Tales from an SLP Entrepreneur with Sarah Breshears, MA, CCC-SLP AND Savannah Reaser

In this episode, Michelle is joined by Sarah, SLP and founder of Short and Sweet Speech, author of “Short and Sweet Stories” and her niece, Savannah, American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter and illustrator of “Short and Sweet Stories.” With summer knocking at our door, a fair few of us are contemplating the inevitable question, “Should we return to this job?” “Am I truly using all of my talents here?” Or “Am I destined for more?” . These honest and raw questions get to our hearts: they stir at our souls, because we want and desire more than our Monday though Friday, the bare bones of our 9-5 grind. But can we actually do it? Can we take that leap of faith and become an “SLP Entrepreneur”? The answer is YES! Join Michelle, Sarah, and Savannah as they discuss the options for expanding your baseline skills to enter into SLP business and the benefits of using social media.

✨Title: Pediatric Feeding Disorders: How Interprofessional Practice Drives Treatment.

✨Have you ever received a referral for a little one with “Pediatric Feeding Disorder”, but you are unsure of where to begin? Do you have a pediatric patient on your caseload, but they have plateaued in therapy, and you can’t seem to find a way to break through? Or do you have a patient that was just referred to a specialist, but you are unsure of what your role is to support the new medical professional? In truth, you are not alone! Come join your colleagues for a “GSHA PFD Pre-Con” and tackle these worries with current evidenced-based practice. Michelle Dawson, MS CCC-SLP, CLC, BCS-S host of “First Bite: A Speech Therapy Podcast” and author of the international best-seller “Chasing the Swallow: Truth, Science, and Hope for Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Disorders” will present a three-hour course that will answer all these questions… and more! All great intervention plans are built upon comprehensive evaluations and diagnostics… therefore, the day will start by better understanding the roles and responsibilities of an Allergist, Gastroenterologist, and Otolaryngologist on the team. Strategies for clinicians on how to best engage in interprofessional education and practice with these PFD partners will be discussed via case studies and open dialogue. With this new IPE/IPP understanding, intervention strategies from breast-feeding to introduction of semi-solids, (from a neurodiversity affirming lens), are introduced via case studies and open dialogue. Come with HIPAA compliant questions, nut-free snacks, and your favorite water bottle to try hands-on interventions… and leave with a spirit of joy and functional EBP treatment strategies!

In this episode, Erin is joined by friend and colleague Taylor Anderson, MS, CCC-SLP, to discuss mentor and mentee relationships when it comes to pediatric feeding disorders. By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

✨1. Describe the mentor-mentee relationship and how that relationship can change and evolve over time.

✨2. Describe three strategies to improve mentor-mentee relationship.

✨3. Name three resources to develop your skills as a mentor, specifically for pediatric feeding disorders.
