Committee applications are currently open. Each issue explores a particular theme and features articles as well as photographs.

Created by St Andrew's University students, S T E R E O S C O P E magazine serves as a platform to share student work as well as images from the University's expansive special collections catalogue. STEREOSCOPE magazine is a student magazine that celebrates photography in St Andrews while raising awareness about the photographs of the University's special collections. Working with the support of t

he University's Art History Department and Library Special Collections, the magazine is produced annually with an accompanying exhibition. The longstanding tradition of photography in St Andrews started with the historic resident Sir David Brewster, inventor of the stereoscope. Brewster's correspondence with William Henry Fox Talbot, the inventor of the calotype, established the town as an epicenter of early photography. St Andrews still plays a role in developing the history of photography; our university holds one of the largest and most important collections of historic Scottish photography and - following in Brewster's footsteps- our student body continues to make photographic headway. We have chosen to name our magazine S T E R E O S C O P E in honour of Brewster's dynamic contributions. Like the instrument which provides its viewer with a dual-perspective, our S T E R E O S C O P E aims to provide you with views to both the past and the present. From our small town, such greatness has emerged. It is this wealth of incredible material that we celebrate within our pages. More information can be found on our page (linked below):

‘Presents for the house builders, Roma community.’

Show us the gift you got.
All that red-tape. All that wish-list-bull-sh*t.
Was it a dog? Did it come to your door, bird-in-mouth? Did it know?
Was it that country wrapped in snow? The car you drove home in?
Did you love it?

Gift is the peace of wild things.
Gift is waited for; gift is celebration.
The first harvest of the season!

Gift is a way of seeing.
What are you giving away? Is it yours to give?
Gifts can be lies showing up as gifts. Gifts can be things showing up in unexpected places.
Across the sea they call it poison. Across the sea they call it marriage.
Here, I visit your house, I bring candles.
Maybe it’s politeness.

But what if gift is a need to you, like water:
like, could you bring us a glass of water filled with sky?

We want what you can’t give.

On Thursday, August 1st, the University of St Andrews announced the discharge of Rector Stella Maris from the role of President of Court and as a charity trustee. This comes after the Rector maintained her position put forth in a November statement, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and recognition of the longstanding ‘history of mistreatment faced by Palestinians.’

Stereoscope, as a publication committed to promoting student expression, stands with Rector Maris in exercising her right to speak independently as a student-elected representative. We feel that the University’s decision to remove her from this position is out of line with the principles of democratically elected rectorship.

We wish to make clear our strong support for an immediate ceasefire, as well as our support of the continuation of divestment processes.

We call on the Court to reconsider their decision, which sets a dangerous precedent for the limitation of freedom of speech within the University and beyond.

The silencing of those in the University community for speaking against genocide cannot be tolerated.
