"According to Psychologists, there are four types of Intelligence:

1) Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)
3) Social Quotient (SQ)
4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ): this is the measure of your level of comprehension. You need IQ to solve maths, memorize things, and recall lessons.

2. Emotional Quotient (EQ): this is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others, keep to time, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine and considerate.

3. Social Quotient (SQ): this is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time.

People that have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ and SQ. Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down.

A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ and SQ even though he has an average IQ.

Your EQ represents your Character, while your SQ represents your Charisma. Give in to habits that will improve these three Qs, especially your EQ and SQ.

Now there is a 4th one, a new paradigm:

4. The Adversity Quotient (AQ): The measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life, and come out of it without losing your mind.

When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up, who will abandon their family, and who will consider su***de.

Parents please expose your children to other areas of life than just Academics. They should adore manual labour (never use work as a form of punishment), Sports and Arts.

Develop their IQ, as well as their EQ, SQ and AQ. They should become multifaceted human beings able to do things independently of their parents.

Finally, do not prepare the road for your children. Prepare your children for the road."

Today in History: Abagana Ambush took place.

Abagana Ambush of March 31, 1968 was an ambush by Biafran guerrilla troops led by Major Jonathan Uchendu that wiped out the Nigerian 2 Division. During this ambush, the Nigerian Army suffered the heaviest defeat in the civil war. Of the 5,000 Nigerian troops ambushed, only a very small number survived, including the 2nd Division's commander, Col. Murtala Ramat Muhammed.

Murtala was said to have assembled and deployed a convoy of 105 vehicles which included troop carriers, fuel tanker and four armoured cars to facilitate this plan on March 31, 1968. However, the Biafran secret intelligence gained knowledge of the plan and reported it to a higher Biafran command which instantly planned a deadly ambush.

A 700-man troop, led by Major Uchendu, was given a huge task by Col. Achuzie to ambush the invading Nigerian troops at Abagana in the Enugu-Onitsha highway. The unsuspecting Nigerian 2nd division, numbering about 5000 soldiers, marched on until they were halted by a surprise attack from a smaller but well-prepared Biafran army. The Biafran army allowed the Nigerian army to march right into their midst before raining bullets on them.

A locally made rocket called Ogbunigwe was crucially used during the Ambush. One of the Ogbunigwe rockets was launched directly at a fuel tanker in the Nigerian army convoy leading to chains of explosions which created a 450-metre great fire that incinerated men and metals within seconds. Refuelling vehicles exploded and burnt many infantry units.

After the Ogbunigwe rocket attack, Biafran soldiers opened fire, killing what is left of the shocked 2nd division of the Nigerian Army. About 2,500 Nigerian army died in the attack; many others scampered in different directions. Col. Murtala Muhammed was relieved of duty afterwards and never commanded a division again during the war. Major Uchendu, the commander of the Biafran Army that led the Abagana Ambush with the advice of Col. Achuzie, recounted that the sight of the 2nd division convoy almost paralyzed his troops. His boys were so anxious to start firing, more out of panic than anything else. He asked them to remain calm until he gave the order. He allowed much of the Nigerian Army convoy to pass through. His boys were shocked why he would allowed them go through into the Biafran held zone.

They were nervous & suspicious, yet they trusted his military gallantry and so awaited to know his strategy. The Abagana Ambush was the most resounding battle won by the Biafrans during the Nigerian-Biafran civil war. Abagana Ambush of March 31, 1968 is regarded as the most successful Ambush in Africa's history.

*HISTORY OF THE PAST AND PRESENT OBAS OF LAGOS.

*ASHIPA (1600-1630)*

Aworiland had earlier founded by Olofin Ogunfunmilere. The children of olofin later founded different towns in Lagos State. Olofin Ogunfunmilere last born, Aromire was the owner of all land in Isale - Eko ( Lagos island).

Ashipa (called Esikpa in Benin Language) was military leader of Benin soldiers that invaded and waged war against Awori people living in Lagos State. ( Isale Eko / Lagos Island inclusive).

Ashipa was regarded as the Leader of Benin kingdom dynasty in Lagos.

He was the son Oba of Benin. He was acting as the leader of the people of Lagos but not as the king. He serves as the intermediary between the Oba of Benin and the people of Lagos (eko),he spent 27 years as the leader of eko ,and died in 1630 and his son Ado took over his responsibility.

OBA ADO (1630-1669)
Oba ado, the son of ashipa took over the leadership role played by his father in 1630 during his own reign, he was elevated to an Oba and was crown as the king of Lagos by the Oba of Benin. Oba ado became the first Oba of Lagos. Oba ado had three children,2 males and 1 female. They include (Gabaro, Akinsemoyin, and Erelu Kuti).Oba ado ruled for 39years. He joined his ancestor in 1669 and his first son Gabaro succeeded him.

*OBA GABARO (1669-1704)*

Oba Gabaro was installed in 1669 after his father death. During his reign, he moved the government to the island in particular isale eko where the present iga Idungran is today.he was the first Oba to erect a building in the palace, he also created the institution of chieftaincy and kingmakers.he had only one child during his lifetime called Eletu kekere.Oba Gabaro died in 1904 and his brother Akinsemoyin succeeded him.

*OBAAKINSEMOYIN- 1704-1749*

Oba Akinsemoyin started in own reign in 1704. His close friend and powerful herbalist, Baba Alagba (an Ijesa man from Osun State) had earlier disclosed to him that he would become a King of Eko.

Baba Alagba further told Akinsemoyin to mount white flag inside water ( Lagoon) . He revealed further that white man would visit him and support his kingdom whenever they saw the flag.

It was during his reign that the Portuguese came to Lagos as slave dealers. It was in records that the palace “iga idungran” was built during this period with the assistance of the Portuguese . Oba Akinsemoyin never had a son but he has six female children, he reign for 45 years and died in 1749.

*OBA ELETU-KEKERE (1749)*

Oba Eletu kekere succeeded Oba akinsemoyin(his uncle).Oba eletu kekere was the only son of Oba Gabaro, during his reign, he had no child and died within the year he was installed as the Oba. Therefore, ending the lineage of Oba gabaro. After his death, there was controversy on who to succeed the throne, because Oba akinsemoyin had no son. Erelu kuti, the sister of akinsemoyin is also a female and it is not possible for a female to succeed the throne.

Thereafter, Erelu Kuti married baba Alagba (a herbalist & Ijesa man) .

The only option was to choose the son to succeed the throne.

Erelu kuti born two son’s (Ologun-kutere & sokun)
for Baba Alagba ( Ijesa).

The eldest son Ologun-kutere was chosen to succeed the throne.

*OBA OLOGUN-KUTERE (1749-1775)*

Oba Ologun kutere ascended the throne in 1749 after the death of his cousin eletu kekere. Oba ologun kutere was a strong king, he won the respect of neighboring Oba by the way he handled a threatening rebellion against paying tributes. He had 6 children “Eshinlokun, Adele, Akitoye, Olusi, Akiolu, and Olukoya”.he joined his ancestor in 1775 and was succeeded by his son ADELE AJOSUN(his son)

*OBA ADELE AJOSUN (1775-1780 &1834)*

In 1775, when Oba Adele Ajosun succeeded his father, Lagos entered a period where the Oba had to concern themselves with consolidating their position on the throne , his reign was rich with intrigues and counter-intrigues between him and his brother ESHILOKUN. Oba Adele Ajosun was an indulgent father who allowed his children to introduce “EGUNGUN” to the palace. This led to his dethronement and he was banished in 1780 but was reinstated in 1834 after his brothers(ESHILOKUN, IDEWU OJULARI had reigned. He died in 1834

*OBA ESHILOKUN (1780-1819)*

By the time Oba idewu ojulari took over the throne, he was regarded as a popular king who became so obsessed by avarice. He was given the advice to go exile or commit su***de, the traditional way of treating undesirable king, but instead Ojulari decided to commit su***de. He died without an issue in 1832(childless)

*OBA OLUWOLE (18341841)*

Oba oluwole was the son of Adele ajosun, his succeeded the throne in 1834 after the death of his father, unfortunately, for Oba oluwole, he died without an issue(childless), his death was as a result of a terrible explosion of gun powder stored in the palace.

*OBA AKINTOYE (1841-1845 &1851-1853)*

Oba akintoye is another son of ologun kutere, he succeeded the throne after his brother and nephews had reign. Good intention backed by weakness made him to lose his throne the his nephew kosoko. Despite the advices of his chiefs, Oba akintoye recalled kosoko so as to bring him back to fold . The result was that he lost the throne and was able to get it back through the help of the help of the British. In 1851 he signed the treaty to stop SLAVERY

*OBA KOSOKO (1845-1851)*

Oba kosoko is a very strong man, he was very powerful spiritually.he became the Oba of Lagos in 1845 after plotting a coup against Oba Akitoye in 1845,his reign was warlike he believed he has suffered injustice for not been appointed the Oba an 1841 then in 1845, he plotted a coup against his uncle (Oba akintoye). During is reign, the British came to him to sign a treaty to stop slavery but Oba kosoko insisted not sign the treaty, then Lagos was bombarded by the British navel and Oba akitoye was reinstalled as the Oba in1851

*OBA DOSUNMU (1853-1885)*

In 1853, Oba dosunmu took over the reign of the throne of his forefather. He made durable contribution to the development of Lagos and this gave a clear illustration of the lofty ideas of Obaship which are in consonance with modern civilization, in august 1861 Oba dosunmu concluded the treaty of cession of Lagos to the British government, Lagos became a freedom land and consequently many traders started to bargain with overseas merchant for lawful and prosperous trade. and the various constitutional developments helped further to turn Lagos into truly peaceful and prosperous Nigeria city. *OBA ESUGBAYI (1901-1925 & 1932)*

The reign of Oba ESUGBAYI ELEKO started in 1901,he is popularly called as eleko, he succeeded his brother oyekan1. But during his reign, it was full with British politics and wrangling, because of British politics, he was sent on exile to Oyo kingdom by the then governor sir high Clifford in 1925. As the custom of the people of Yoruba, anybody on exile is expected to be dead person, therefore the council of chief marker therefore quickly elected another Oba, but during esugbayi exile, he did not die and he returned to Lagos in 1931 and was reinstalled that same year. He died in 1932.

*OBA IBIKUNLE-AKITOYE (1925-1928)*

Oba ibikunle akitoye succeeded the throne after oba esugbayi was been sent on exile. But before his installation, he was told by the priest that he will not last long on the throne that he will only spend three years on the throne but ibikunle insisted on his installation that if he is to spend a day on the throne , let it be, then his installation took place normally as the custom deserve. During his reign, he was the first Christian oba of Lagos. Exactly three years as predicted, oba ibikunle akitoye joined his ancestor. And he was succeeded by Oba sanusi Olusi.
OBA SANUSI-OLUSI(1928-1931)
In 1928, after the death of oba ibikunle akitoye, his cousin sanusi Olusi was chosen to succeed him. It was in record that oba sanusi Olusi was the first Muslim oba of Lagos just as ibikunle was the first Christian oba. During the reign of sanusi Olusi he broke the old pagan tradition by attending the Muslim praying ground on the festival day in 1928, This action created enemies for him from the. pagan group. Also during his reign,he created the relaxation space at the frontage of the palace which Lagosian popularly called ESE-IGA,This formed a meeting/relaxation point for the Lagos of the old.oba sanusi Olusi was a peace loving oba because in 1931, when oba esugbayi returned from exile, he accepted to leave the throne for esugbayi to returned.this humble manner, was compensated by the British government and another palace was built for him at OKE ARIN. This palace is popularly called IGA-OLUSI.

*OBA FALOLU(1932-1949)*

Oba falolu ascended the throne 1932, but before his installation ,there was crisis on who to succeed throne, some were in support of sanusi Olusi while some were in support of re-appointing new oba. And oba falolu was declared the oba and was installed immediately, oba fololu did not perform the traditional rite known as ETUTU-IJO (a traditional rite after the death of a previous oba. AJALA TRAVEL: NIGERIAN GLOBETROTTER WHO SAW THE WORLD BUT DIED AT HOME

Olabisi Ajala reputedly toured 87 countries on a scooter, meeting political leaders and celebrities until he returned home to die lonely and poor at 65

Even if conventional history ignores Olabisi Ajala, the phrase “Ajala the traveller”, a nickname in Southwest Nigeria for the footloose and the adventurous, means he would never be forgotten.

In fact, the legendary Juju musician, Ebenezer Obey, in his 1972 hit album, “Board Members,” contributed to etching his name in Yoruba folklore when he sang memorable lines about his adventures:

“Ajala travelled all over the world (2ce). Ajala travelled (2ce), Ajala travelled all over the world.”

Such was the life lived by Moshood Adisa Olabisi Ajala, aka ỌlĂĄbĂsĂ ÀjĂ lĂĄ, who toured about 87 countries on a motorcycle in the 195os.

By every inch of it, his adventure had all the trappings of glitz, showing off not just himself but also his culture as an African.

In every country he visited, he donned his agbada – the Yoruba flowing gown – and a cap, a combination described as “elaborately flowered robes with a felt-like head-dresses to match.”

Flawed he was, as is everyone. Heroes, as the great columnist Sam Omatseye once wrote, do not come in neat packages. Neither are villains complete disasters.

If Mungo Park toured the African coast to “discover” the River Niger and Ferdinand Magellan circumnavigated to prove the earth was spherical, Ajala explored the world to exhibit the African culture and the can-do Ă©lan of Nigerians.

Ajala is therefore to Africa what Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan, James Cook, and Marco Polo are to Europe, and Ibn Battuta al-Tanji and Zheng He to Asia.

His motorcycle was his compass which he used to cross borders and challenge the brutality of racial intolerance.

He was popular for his encounter with authorities and brushes with the law. If not for petty crimes like being caught with a counterfeit cheque, then it was in fights over a woman.

Reputedly possessing a ferocious libido, his escapades produced for him offspring scattered all over, literally becoming a father in many nations.

A Chicago nurse named Myrtle Bassett had his first son, Oladipupo (also called Andre), whose paternity he initially denied despite a court ruling saying otherwise.

He would marry an American model, Hermine Aileen, who divorced him on the charges of philandering and adultery, an allegation he said he “cannot contest.”

He went on to marry a 19-year-old white London radio-TV actress, Joan Simmons. His Australian wife, Wajuan, had for him: Femi, Dante, Lisa and Sydney. There was Toyin Ajala in England, with whom he had Taiwo and Kehinde. In Nigeria, it was Sherifat, among others.

Ajala was born in Ghana to Nigerian Muslim parents in 1934 – the twenty-fifth of his father’s 30 children from four wives. He attended Baptist Academy in Lagos and Ibadan Boys’ High School in Ibadan.

Leaving Nigeria, Aged 18, he travelled to the United States to study pre-medicine at the University of Chicago, becoming the first black student in the Delta Upsilon Pi ‘fratority’, a co-educational Greek-letter organisation.

He wanted to study medicine so that he could “wage war on voodoo and other superstitions” when he returned to Africa.

“The world should send doctors to Africa, and missionaries to Chicago. The gangsters here need to convert much more than we do,” he wrote in his travelogue.

He would never fulfil that career dream as he abandoned the stethoscope for a life on the road. He would later move to Roosevelt University (then called Roosevelt College) to study Psychology.

At 22, fame came to the charismatic icon on June 12, 1952, when he decided to embark on a trip from Chicago to Los Angeles, covering about 2,280 miles all on a bicycle. He was received by Los Angeles city mayor, Fletcher Bowron.

With the tour, during which he stopped to deliver lectures at 11 major cities, he sought to educate the American people that “we (Nigerians and Africans) do not go about nakedly in loincloths.”

Meanwhile, as a result of a number of run-ins with the American immigration for petty offences and because he abandoned his schoolwork, he was sentenced to a one-year suspended jail term and was later ordered to be deported to Nigeria.

He protested the deportation order by climbing up an 80-foot radio tower and threatening to jump off it if the order was not rescinded. Ignoring pleas from the authorities, he later jumped down from about 15 feet and sprained his back. He was, nonetheless deported, but to London instead.

While in London, on April 27, 1957, the adventurer began his globetrotting for six years, visiting what is believed to be 87 countries on a Scooter Vespa motorcycle.

He detailed his tour in his autobiography, An African Abroad, which is currently out of print. The 255-page travelogue was published by London-based Jarrolds in 1963.

In it, he detailed his “sojourn in India,” his “visits to the Soviet Union” and the “Afro-Asian students (he met) in Russia.” Chapters were also devoted to his moments with the Shah of Iran as well as a cruise of the Arab world, wherein he visited “an Arab brothel” before a “suicidal entry into Israel’s Jerusalem.”

From Israel, he travelled to Lebanon, before making a stop at Egypt where he had a conversation with Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian general who led the Egyptian Revolution of 1952 that ended the United Kingdom’s occupation of Egypt. Ajala later travelled to Australia.

Radical in his approach and not an easy person to accept no for an answer, he recalled his encounter with Gamal Abdel Nasser:

“Every day at 6 a.m. for the next two weeks, I was waiting directly in front of his presidential palace, hoping he would come out. On the 13th day of my hitherto unpromising efforts, around 5 p.m. President Naseer emerged from the interior of his residence heading for his car.”

The autobiography of Ajala titled “An African Abroad” currently out of print
The autobiography of Ajala titled “An African Abroad” currently out of print
Ajala got his man by screaming as loudly as he could and was heartily welcomed by the president.

From the road to the box office
Apart from the several television appearances in African traditional attire he had, Ajala’s exploits paved the way for him to the world of movies.

He featured in White Witch Doctor, produced by the 20th Century Fox movie studio, during which shooting he was paid $300 per week.

By 1955, he signed a movie contract with the Eagle Lion’s studio of Hollywood, making movies with European and African backgrounds.

He also played the role of “Ola,” a companion of “Loni,” a famous African hunter, played by Roberts Mitshun.

Privilege to penury
Upon returning to Nigeria, Ajala became a socialite and hung out with celebrities and entertainers like the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. Both men soon fell out and filed litigation against each other.

Ajala would later withdraw his suit. By that time, a life of pomp and ceremony had become a luxury as his influence, popularity and fame dwindled.

He had no savings for the rainy days and his later years and had no house he could call his own.

He lived in a dingy rented apartment in a two-storey building on Adeniran Street, Bariga, Lagos. Nothing in the house suggested a man who breathed prosperity lived there.

“Ajala’s sitting room was devoid of carpet, had a table of about five locally made iron chairs in a corner which also served as a dining table, an old black and white television set, seats uncomfortably in an ill-constructed shelf, the cushion on the sofa hurts the buttocks as it has become flat, the curtains on the window of the two bedroom flat, showed sign of old age, it is indeed a story of penury,” an observer once wrote.

As he battled penury, stroke struck.

It became double trouble for the larger-than-life Ajala as he had no money to take care of himself.

He died of paralysis from stroke in Lagos on February 2, 1999, aged 65.

Olabisi Ajala had the world in his pocket but died a lonely man with nothing in his pocket.

THE STORY OF ADÉGBÖRÒ L'OJA OBA.

ADEGBORO left Ibadan for Lagos in search of greener pasture. He chose to be carrying loads (Alabaru) on his head at Oyingbo market to earn a living.
Few years after, he bought a cart from his savings and this eased the pain of carrying loads on his head for commercial purposes. The Cart also increased his income and he was able to acquire 6 more of its kind which he rented out to others.
Exactly 8 years in this cart pushing business, Adegboro bought a van which many called BOLEKAJA and learning how to drive, he handled the business by himself. 4 years into the Bolekaja business, Adegboro had been a proud owner of 6 Vans.
Being a bona fide Ibadan son, (omo bibi ilu Ibadan) ADEGBORO built a magnificent building at OJA OBA where the Olubadan Palace was situated when it was time to put a roof on his head.
Many people at this period approached Adegboro to show them the secret behind his success. He simply asked them if they could carry loads on their heads in the market to earn income (alabaru)? And their response had always been "NEVER".
He too would spontaneously say “ENI TI O LE SE ALABARU L'OYINGBO, KO LE SE BI ADEGBORO L'OJA OBA" - this is a replica of the adage also in Yoruba land that says; "ÌSASÙN tabi IKOKO TI YIO J'ATA (OBE), IDI RE A GBONA". (A pot that wants to consume a palatable soup must have its bottom burnt or heated with fire first).
In Life, to endure is to achieve. No short cut is sustainable. Enduring wealth is built over time in a small bit but in a persistent way.

STORY / LESSON OF THE WEEK
LIFE_IS_DEEP:

A mad man handed his cheque to a bank teller and said, “I would like to withdraw N5000..”

The Male teller told the mad man “For withdrawals less than N10,000, please use the ATM”.

The mad man then asked, “Why?” The teller irritably told the mad man, “These are rules. Please leave if there is no other matter. There is a queue behind you.” the teller then returned the cheque to the mad man.

The mad man remained silent. But he returned the cheque to the teller and said, “Please help me withdraw all the money I have.”

The teller was astonished when he checked the account balance of the mad man through the system. He nodded his head, knelt down and said to the mad man.

“My apologies Sir, you have N3.5 billion in your account and our bank does not have so much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come again tomorrow?"

The mad man then asked, “How much am I able to withdraw now?”

The teller told him, “Any amount up to N300,000.”

The mad man then told the teller that he wanted to withdraw N300,000 from his account.

The teller did so quickly and handed it to the mad man respectfully.

The mad man kept N5000 in his bag and asked the teller to deposit the balance of N295000 back into his account.

The teller was dumbfounded.

Rules are inflexible but we humans can be flexible when the situation requires us to be.

We should not treat people base on their look or how they are dressed.

Rather, we should treat everyone with respect. And never be too quick to judge a book by its cover.

EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT. STAY LOW AND DON'T OVERRATE YOURSELF..... GOOD MORNING FAMILY...

I was inside a keke yesterday when a guy came in. It was a short ride. Just 50 naira. The keke guy asked him if he had 50 naira and he said yes.

He got in and we continued.
He got to where he would come down and gave the keke guy #500. The keke guy reminded him that he asked him if he has 50 naira and he said yes.

The guy said he has plenty money and thought 50 naira was in it.
The keke driver obviously had no change. The passenger said he doesn't also have that 500 is the least money he has.

He said it's either the keke driver finds change or he'll leave without paying.
From there, verbal fight started.

He was insulting the keke driver like he was right. The keke driver was obviously painedâ˜č by the whole thing.
The keke driver was trying to find change from his fellow riders and the guy crossed road and left.

That thing pained the keke driver. I saw the pain in his eyes.
We left. At a point I noticed the keke driver was wiping tears 😭😭off his face.

Haa!
I asked him if he's fine and he said all he wanted from that guy was to at least talk to him in a calm voice that he doesn't have 50 naira and not to insult him.

He said he needed the 50 naira but he can still let go if he talks to him like a human being.
Like, this guy was crying. It was very heartbreaking.💔

I got home, paid him and also gave him the last 500 on me.
His countenance changed immediately. He was smiling with tears flowing down his eyes.

To you, it's JUST 50 naira. To the next person, it might be all they need to have dinner.

People need kindness. Lots of people are struggling and a simple smile 😊from you is all they need to know that no matter how hard life is to them, there's still love in this world.
