It starts with “Dear Diary…” . 🔊 . July’s posts are about diaries and how we keep them. And what forms do they come in? Traditionally, a diary with a padlock and a hex to ward off pesky siblings and concerned parents . The cliche goes somewhat like this - someone who’s not supposed to read the diary does and misunderstanding occurs. Since it's written in confidence, it’s assumed to be an accurate account. It reveals secrets and causes chaos (Mean Girls and the infamous Burn Book). It can also be an artistic journey and a tool for reflection of events and aesthetic choices ( check out Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love), bringing together disparate subjects forming new connections and bypassing standard logic patterns privileged by male authors. Within these pages we experience our different selves- there is an element of frankness and intimacy that seduces. This month we introduce different artist, writers and creatives who engage with this form. In this world where we’re learning how fungible facts are, making your own record can be a grounding act.
