New Release from Will & James Ragar C/O Paul Hillery, The Baton Rouge EP is here and available for the first time ever on Vinyl.
Leading the way for the upcoming release of their Acoustic Album LP, Will and James Ragar’s Baton Rouge EP is four tracks of sublime southern swagger, soulful Americana and lazy, summer afternoon grooves blending with some sweet, sweet vocals.
All four tracks were originally written in the late 1970s and recorded in Baton Rouge in 1980, adding a flavour that reflects the musical melting pot of Baton Rouge and the wider Louisiana cultural exchanges that can be heard in acts ranging from the Neville Brothers through to Doctor John, James Booker and very definitely, Will and James themselves.
Available now exclusively via our @bandcamp page (link in buy-o)
Impressive Collective & BBE Music announce an exclusive vinyl 45 single by Omar Lyefook MBE to celebrate signing the legendary UK soul star.
This new partnership continues Omar’s long standing collaboration with Impressive Collective’s Greg Boraman, which began in 2013 on Freestyle Records with the critically acclaimed ‘The Man’ album and continued with ‘Love In Beats’ and ‘The Omar Anthology’. To mark this auspicious news, we proudly announce the release of this limited-edition vinyl single featuring 2 tracks that is only available on this exclusive 45.
A side - ‘Lovey Dovey’ is box fresh but also classic Omar, and features his trademark assured vocal delivery over a bumping rhythm and synths provided by The Scratch Professor. The flip ‘This Thing Called Life’ is an opulent and epic instrumental piece, featuring swooping cinematic strings, over a funk laden arrangement that is part film soundtrack, part dancefloor filler.
Happy Release Day Jessica Lauren available for the FIRST TIME ON VINYL!!!

We Know How To Boogie’ is a joyful romp through the finest forgotten dance-floor disco and soul from the 70’s and 80’s.
Compiled by Italian brothers Gino and Federico Grasso. Bona fide ‘disco dons’, collecting music for over 30 years and supplying the likes Dimitri From Paris, Sadar Bahar and Volcov with obscure gems. Gino is a familiar face behind the decks in his hometown of Bologna and across Italy, while Federico’s DJing outings are more occasional. Music, passion and knowledge has seen Gino play underground clubs the world over, including Le Souk in NYC and the Bussey Building and Brilliant Corners in London.
Many of the tracks included on ‘We Know How To Boogie’ have become ‘signature tunes’ for DJs such as Phil Asher, Sadar Bahar, Joe Davis, Ltj X-perience and Daniele Baldelli, rarely if ever leaving their record boxes. Containing several exclusive edits from G&D, ‘We Know How To Boogie’ is simply filled with sure-fire hits for the discerning dance-floor. Lesser known tracks remastered from eye-wateringly expensive original vinyl releases by William Barlak, Living Colour & Carol Meriwether rub shoulders with the truly obscure and utterly wonderful French-Canadian disco outfit Black Sun in what can only be described as a musical celebration like you’ve never heard before.
This ‘Italian Job’ is guaranteed to do more than just ‘blow the bloody doors off’. #WhatYouNeedWednesdays
Film By Jessica Lauren is now available for Pre Order, this track Treasure Island is now available to stream on all DSPs, lets go run that up - the first official reissue of this ahead-of-its-time album.
https://orcd.co/jessicalauren_film
Jessica Lauren has been a lynchpin of the UK scene for decades whose keyboard skills have augmented the live performances and studio recordings of all manner of legendary names, from Jean Carne, Tom Browne, Dexter Wansel, through to modern day heroes The Heliocentrics and she’s also a core member of Nick Woodmansey’s space jazz outfit Emanative.
Film is the latest and very welcome release by keyboard player, composer and producer Jessica Lauren, the long-time friend and collaborator of IMPRESS!VE Collective’s Greg Boraman. After assuming A&R control of Freestyle Records, Boraman’s first signing was ‘Jessica Lauren Four’ (2012) and also released ‘Almeria’ (2018). Both albums exhibited her minimalist approach: Jessica’s music is always sophisticated and complex but also accessible and listenable.
In May 1976 a record was released that would have an unforeseen and lasting impact on the music industry “Ten Percent” by Double Exposure was an early release on the New York independent label Salsoul Records. America was in the grip of a disco explosion with new clubs opening on a weekly basis; Salsoul saw what was happening and swiftly created a sound for their label, heavily influenced by the music then coming out of Philadelphia, aimed directly at New York’s dance-floors. Records like “Salsoul Hustle,” “Tangerine” and “You’re Just The Right Size” by The Salsoul Orchestra borrowed heavily from the beautifully orchestrated Philadelphia International Records but added a more percussive, bass heavy depth that New York’s DJs loved.
So what was so special about this particular single then? Double Exposure was, after all, just another band, “Ten Percent” just another song; one of many “disco” records released that week. First of all Salsoul became the first record label to make a twelve inch single available to Joe Public – the exotic format was previously only available to DJs as promotional items or bought under the counter at certain record stores. Not only that though, the extended version was created by Walter Gibbons, a DJ at New York’s Galaxy 21 who’d built his reputation making exclusive versions of tracks to play in his sets.
In 1976 it was unheard of for a DJ to set foot in a recording studio, being seen as little more than living jukeboxes by the serious music industry. Recording studios were strictly the domain of recording artists and producers so Walter found himself in a unique position, gaining access to a world no DJ had been granted before.
Or so we thought…
The Men In The Glass Booth compiled by Al Kent tells the full story. Featuring ground breaking re-edits and remixes by some of the Disco era’s most influential DJs including Walter Gibbons, Bobby DJ Guttadaro, Tom Savarese, Jellybean Benitez, Tee Scott a
