Chinese light making originated in around 105 AD. during the Eastern Han dynasty. Originally paper was used to make them, but over time it evolved to other materials including Metal. During the time of 690-705 AD. that China started having Lantern Festivals. It then spread to neighboring cultures like East, South and south east Asia.
