Josh Duggan, Sean McGrath, and Adam Schwitters revisit the movies of your youth, one guest (who hasn't seen their old favorite in ages) at a time to see how it plays against their memory of the film and how it held up to the test of time.

Wait, who's this week's guest? Yup, it's Adam Schwitters. And he REALLY saw a movie he shouldn't have seen at the age of 8.

After Sean and Josh prepare you for the coming weeks without the podcast in the penultimate episode of Season 1, they welcome occasional Unkind Rewind co-host and full-time Munch My Benson co-host Adam Schwitters to the podcast. When Adam was a wee lad of 8, he saw a film that he was roughly ten yea...

Young Max Rieper of Royals Review felt Return to Oz was superior to its predecessor The Wizard of Oz. How would its bleaker vision of the Land of Oz and a much younger Dorothy (a 10-year-old Fairuza Balk) play to a grown-up Max who'd not seen it in more than 35 years?

Listen wherever you get your podcasts or check out our newest Main Event episode on the Unkind Rewind YouTube Channel.

After Sean tells of a truly insane moviegoing experience,
Josh sits down with Max Rieper of Royals Review to talk about what he can remember of his past with a little piece of nightmare fuel from the '80s that he hasn't seen since that decade.

After Sean tells of a harrowing trip to the cinema, we sit down with our very special guest for this week and next, Max Rieper, the managing editor for Royals Review, to take a trip down memory lane and discuss his childhood standing on an island loving this next film. That it was nightmare fuel did...

Super funny one this week, as we watched the Jon Cryer star-vehicle Hiding Out with special guest, Brian Mann. What about this tale of a 29-year-old stockbroker *ahem* hiding out in a Delaware high school while on the run from a mob hit squad--grooming a high school girl while there--resonated with 8-year-old Brian?

Also, what did the Jon Cryer say to Josh when told he'd just seen this about 15 years ago?

Watch on our YouTube Channel or listen wherever you get your podcasts to find out.

Hot on the heels of our Beastmaster Main Event last week, Sean and Josh sat down this week to wrap up that discussion before welcoming modern Middle Eastern history professor Brian Mann to the pod to unpack his childhood predilection toward movies featuring the star of next week's film, which you will discover when listening to this week's Qs and Tease episode. Super fun talk with a guy who totally didn't peak when he was watching this movie, despite his assertion to the contrary.

You can also watch the episode on our YouTube Channel. Link in comments.

🚨NEW ONE🚨

We traveled back to an old ferret-forward favorite of writer/musician Jeremy Steen, watching THE BEASTMASTER for this week's episode. One of Jeremy's favorite movies when he was 8, it'd been three decades since he'd last seen it, despite having a framed poster of the film hanging in his house. Would Dar's courting techniques set off his creepDar? Were ferrets still as cool as they were to young J-Bone? How would the first tiger performing in blackface play to 2024 Jeremy? Did Jeremy go straight out into his backyard and start swinging branches around to play Beastmaster?

The answer to these and so many more questions are contained within this week's wildly fun episode of the Unkind Rewind, available on all podcast platforms and on our YouTube Channel.

This week we jumped on The Beastmaster train with writer and musician Jeremy Steen and got a helluva ride. Did Jeremy's passion for this film influence his d...

NEW TEASER EP IS OUT!

Talked with writer, musician, and righteous but social media averse (mostly) Jeremy Steen this week about his wasted time on set of Terrence Malick's Song to Song, the possible origins of his aversion to eating meat, having "bad" band names, and whether or not he "played [next week's film]" with his best friend.

Tons of fun in this one, which may or may not be brought to you by Big Ferret.

In this Main Event, we get back together with best-selling sci-fi author Daniel H. Wilson (Robopocalypse, Robogenesis, and the Michael Crichton sequel The Andromeda Evolution) to revisit a staple of his childhood that was surprisingly scary today, . Starring a very young Stephen Dorff, along with an eventual Satanist, Kenny Powers's SIL, and an actress creepily sexualized, this entry in the horror-targeted-at-tweens subgenre had some serious special effects bonafides despite one's assumptions given its era. It also left Daniel impressed that he was able to withstand its scares as a child, which is all the more surprising when hearing that it was supposed to be MUCH harsher than the finished product ended up being.

You can watch The Gate on Prime, Plex, Tubi, and the Roku Channel. There's also a brand new Vestron Video Steelbook Blu-Ray release available at Wal-Mart if you're a big fan.

So watch The Gate and then check out how Daniel felt upon jumping back into the hellmouth after all these years either on YouTube (linked) or wherever you get your podcasts.

NEW ONE

This week, we sit down with Daniel H. Wilson--roboticist and best-selling author of Robopocalypse, Robogenesis, The Andromeda Evolution, and the upcoming Doubleday release, Heliopause--to discuss a rambunctious youth filled with riding motorcycles, hijacked phone lines, and other colorful stories that we presume can no longer be held against him thanks to statutes of limitations. Really fun talk in advance of next week's movie, which you can find out if you listen (and is available on Prime, Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Plex).

In this lively installment of the Unkind Rewind, we get to know roboticist, author, and TV host Daniel H. Wilson. Before he wrote best-selling novels like Robop

NEW MAIN EVENT IS UP!

We revisited the high-water mark of the Geriatric Renaissance, Cocoon, with long-time friend and former improv/stand-up Peter Johansen.

How would being the exact age of one of the "septuagenarians" in the film play to him? Would the extreme horniness of this film about the Greatest Generation, the aliens who inhabited Atlantis, and a down-on-his-luck fisherman catch him off guard?

You can also watch on our YouTube Channel!

Sit right back and get to know our next guest, jack of all trades Peter Johansen, as he laughs about being defined by something new, reminisces about kicking other kids out of "his seat" at the local movie theater, and surmises that he surely cried when he saw our next selection--a key entrant into the '80s Geriatric Renaissance-- and will likely shed at least one more tear when we watch it for next week.

We sat down with LA Weekly/Village Voice film reviewer Chad Byrnes () and dove into the borderline traumatic childhood viewing experience that was seeing Firstborn—a cautionary tale about letting pinball, co***ne, Coleman grills (and Big Charcoal, by proxy), and Peter Weller into your single-parent home—in the movie theater with his divorcée mother. We also celebrate the creative forces that were Peter Weller, Michael Apted, Teri Garr, and Corey Haim, while wondering what happened to Christopher Collet, all of whom were great in this 1984 heightened family trauma drama. Come for the discussion of seeing a movie with your mom that traumatized you both, stay for tons of talk praising Corey Haim, speculation that RoboCop derailed Peter Weller’s acting career, and the offer of unequivocal proof that Sam was lying about his baseball-playing past.

This week we were joined by Village Voice and LA Weekly film reviewer Chad Byrnes for a pre-interview discussing what he remembers of his formative filmgoing experience involving the 1984 Michael Apted thriller/family drama Firstborn, which stars Peter Weller, Teri Garr, Christopher Collet, Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert Downey Jr, and Corey Haim in his film debut.

Firstborn just made its way to Netflix, so by all means watch in advance of next week's Main Event.

What did our guest make of his return to the 1986 genre mashup Night of the Creeps? Would the countless influences worn on its sleeve wear out their welcome? Did he wish he could have a roommate as generous and giving as J.C., who was surely given those initials for his Christ-like self-sacrifice? Was Leon’s household solely responsible for its strong Midwestern showing on the home video rental market? Was he thrilled, as Detective Cameron would have wanted?
