VATSIM is excited to announce the extension of the real-world Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) trial, originally set to conclude on August 31st, 2024. the trail will now continue in VATUSA until further notice and will soon be joined by other divisions across VATSIM.

Stay Informed! Further details about the participation of other divisions in the CTAF trial will be released soon. In the meantime, pilots can learn more about using CTAF, selecting the correct frequency by visiting our Pilot Learning Center under FAQ > CTAF Trial or https://my.vatsim.net/learn/frequently-asked-questions/section/140

Pilots can identify the CTAF frequencies by looking up the airport in the VATSIM AIP or by using aerodrome charts.

Hi, friends! A friend of the stream, who you may know as "Wuper," is a real-world US Air Traffic Controller and also codes apps on the side. He's imminently close to releasing an app via Steam entitled "vTERM" AKA Virtual Terminal Simulator. There's no exact release date at this time but it is expected to drop within the next couple of weeks. It's a simulation of a STARS Terminal for Approach and Departure services around a small, fictional, Class Delta airport. Traffic level may be set to "Light," "Moderate," or "Heavy." Purchase price is planned to be $13.99. I've been helping him with testing and with creating the "Setup Guide and Tutorial" video which is now available on the app's YouTube channel. The video goes through the basic setup and configuration, but also contains a little of "this is how you work App/Dep" as well as about ten minutes of play-through at the end to demo the app. The link to the app's page on Steam (still marked "coming soon" for now), an invite to the app's Discord, and the Setup and Tutorial video appear below. There was a moment during the Virtual USA Flying Club Airshow 2024 where someone in a Cub took the runway and the announcer acted like he wasn't sure what was going on. Some of the virtual audience "took the bait," but many of us knew that what we were seeing was an almost perfect note-for-note rendition of this age-old airshow routine.

tl;dr: it takes a TON of knowledge and talent to fly a plane in a way that looks like you have NONE of either, and still not die.
