On July 21st, 1979 Jay Silverheels, became the first Indigenous Native to have a star commemorated on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Harold Jay Smith, was a full-blooded Mohawk, born May 26th,1912 on the Six Nations Indian Reservation in Ontario, Canada. He excelled in athletics, most notably in lacrosse. In 1931 he was among the first players chosen to play for the Toronto Tecumsehs, where he earned the nickname "Silverheels". And in 1997 he was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a veteran player. In 1938, he placed second in the middleweight class of the Golden Gloves tournament. This led to his working in motion pictures as an extra and stuntman in 1937. Billed variously as Harold Smith and Harry Smith, before taking the name Jay Silverheels. He appeared in low-budget features, mostly Westerns, and serials before landing his much loved and iconic role as Tonto on national tv from 1949 until 1957 along with two movies. In the early 1960s, he was a founding member of the Indian Actors Workshop, in Echo Park, Los Angeles. Where Native actors refine their skills. Today the workshop is still a well established institution. Silverheels died on March 5, 1980, from stroke, at age 67, in Calabasas, California. He was cremated at Chapel of the Pines Crematory, and his ashes were returned to the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario

Why Isnโ€™t This Map in the History Books?
By the age of 10, most children in the United States have been taught all 50 states that make up the country. But centuries ago, the land that is now the United States was a very different place. Over 20 million Native Americans dispersed across over 1,000 distinct tribes, bands, and ethnic groups populated the territory.
History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from it. And if it offends you, even better. Because then you are less likely to repeat it. Itโ€™s not yours for you to erase or destroy.

Birds are known as the singers of the animal kingdom but they also enjoy listening to the music of other birds. Elephants are musically inclined. They sway their trunks to the sound of music they like and they will beat steel drums for their enjoyment. The best however is the cow. You can go into an empty cattle field and start playing an instrument. Those cows will come running to you. Music fascinates them. Music helps everyone and everything be at peace โค

'Throughout history, long hair has been more than just a styleโ€”it's been a potent symbol of masculinity and strength across diverse cultures. From the valiant Greeks celebrated in epic poems for their majestic tresses to the fierce Norse and Native Americans revered for their glossy manes, and the stoic Japanese samurai who regarded their hair as a badge of honor, lengthy hair has always had significance. Vikings proudly displayed their braided hair, and for a samurai, to lose his hair was to lose his dignity.
In stark contrast, the cutting of hair was often used as a method of humiliation for captured warriors, reducing their sense of beauty and honor. This tradition persists subtly in modern military practices, where new recruits are shaved bald to diminish their individuality and ensure conformity.
The preference for short hair emerged in the Roman period, between the 1st and 5th centuries AD, primarily for practical battlefield reasonsโ€”it prevented foes from seizing a soldier by his hair and improved the ease of recognizing allies.
Today, despite its deep historical roots connecting long hair with freedom and masculinity, men who choose to keep their hair long often encounter ridicule or are disparagingly labeled as effeminate. This is a significant misunderstanding of the historical context, where short hair, now seen as the norm, deviates from the age-old emblem of masculine strength and autonomy.

The club owner said: โ€œI didn't even know Keanu was standing in the rain waiting to get in - he didn't say anything to anyone.โ€
"He travels by public transport."
"He easily communicates with homeless people on the streets and helps them."
- He was only 60 years old (September 2, 1964)
- He can only eat hot dogs in the park, sitting among normal people.
- After filming one of the "Matrix", he gave all the stuntmen a new motorcycle - in recognition of their skills.
- He gave up most of the salaries of the costume designers and computer scientists who drew the special effects on "The Matrix" - deciding that their share of the film's budget was assessed short.
- He reduced his salary for the movie "The Devil's Advocate" to have enough money to invite Al Pacino.
- Almost at the same time his best friend passed away; His girlfriend lost a child and soon died in a car accident, and his sister suffered from leukemia.
Keanu didn't fail: he donated $5 million to the clinic that treated his sister, refused to be filmed (to be with her), and founded the Leukemia Foundation, donating significant amounts from each fee for the movie.

Lou Diamond Phillips: A Hollywood Survivor Navigates Fame, Family, and Legal Battles - Louis Diamond Phillips, born on February 17, 1962, in the Philippines at the Subic Bay Naval Station, has etched an unforgettable mark on Hollywood. From his iconic portrayal of Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba" to his roles in a diverse range of films and television series, Phillips' career has been a testament to his versatility and talent.
Phillips' early life was shaped by his multicultural background. Born to Lucita Umayam Aranas and Gerald Amon Upchurch, a Marine KC-130 crew chief, Phillips' heritage is a blend of Scots-Irish and Cherokee descent on his father's side. His father passed away when Phillips was young, leading to his adoption by his stepfather and the surname change to Phillips. Growing up in Texas, Phillips graduated from Flour Bluff High School in Corpus Christi in 1980, later earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drama from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Phillips' career took off in the 1980s with his breakout role as Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba" (1987). This biographical drama showcased Phillips' ability to capture the spirit of the young rock 'n' roll star, earning him widespread acclaim. The following year, he starred in "Stand and Deliver" (1988) alongside Edward James Olmos. Phillips' portrayal of Angel David Guzman, a gang member who transforms under the guidance of a dedicated math teacher, garnered him a Golden Globe nomination and an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male.
The success continued with "Young Guns" (1988), where Phillips played the outlaw Jose Chavez y Chavez. The Western, featuring an ensemble cast including Emilio Estevez and Kiefer Sutherland, was a hit, leading to a sequel, "Young Guns II" (1990), where Phillips reprised his role. In 1996, Phillips made his Broadway debut in the revival of "The King and I," playing King Mongkut of Siam. His performance earned him a Tony Award nomination, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile actor capable of commanding both screen and stage. That same year, he starred in the action film "Courage Under Fire" as Staff Sergeant John Monfriez, a role that won him the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Supporting Actor.
Phillips' career in the late 1990s and early 2000s saw him taking on a variety of roles. He starred in the comedy-action film "The Big Hit" (1998) as Cisco and the drama "Brokedown Palace" (1999) as Roy Knox. His television work during this period included a recurring role in the sitcom "George Lopez" and a stint on the first season of "24" as secret government agent Mark DeSalvo. In 2003, Phillips made a cameo appearance alongside Harrison Ford in "Hollywood Homicide." The mid-2000s also saw him exploring other facets of his career, including winning the second season of the NBC reality series "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!" in 2009. He also hosted "An Officer and a Movie" on The Military Channel, where he interviewed military and intelligence community members.
Phillips' role in the TV series "Longmire" from 2012 to 2017 as Henry Standing Bear, a Native American and the best friend of the titular character, showcased his ability to bring depth to complex characters. His performance was widely praised and became one of his most memorable television roles. In the 2010s, Phillips continued to diversify his career. He appeared in the music video for Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" in 2012, which went on to become a massive hit on YouTube. In 2015, he played Luis "Don Lucho" Urzรบa in "The 33," a film about the 2010 Chilean mining accident, further demonstrating his knack for portraying real-life characters with authenticity.
Phillips has also ventured into writing and directing. He co-wrote the screenplay for "Trespasses" and HBO's "Dangerous Touch," and penned the feature "Ambition." In 2019, Aethon Books published his debut novel, "Tinderbox: Soldier of Indira," a science fiction retelling of a Hans Christian Andersen story, illustrated by his wife, Yvonne.
His personal life has seen its share of ups and downs. Phillips married assistant director Julie Cypher in 1987, but they divorced in 1990. He then had a brief engagement with actress Jennifer Tilly. In 1994, he married makeup artist Kelly Phillips, with whom he has three daughters. Their marriage ended in 2007 after a prolonged separation. Phillips later married makeup artist Yvonne Boismier in 2007, and they have a daughter together. Phillips has also been involved in legal issues, including arrests in 2006 and 2017 for disturbing the peace and reckless driving, respectively. Despite these challenges, he has remained a dedicated actor and activist, serving on the advisory council of The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment and being actively involved in Native American causes.
Throughout his career, Phillips has received numerous accolades, including the Independent Spirit Award, Tony Award nomination, and a Blockbuster Entertainment Award. His commitment to his craft and his ability to navigate both Hollywood and Broadway have made him a respected figure in the entertainment industry. Phillips continues to work in various capacities, from acting to writing, and remains a prominent figure in Hollywood. His journey, marked by significant achievements and personal trials, offers a rich narrative of perseverance and talent in the ever-evolving world of entertainment.

Many, many years ago when the Earth was still quite new, there was a beautiful butterfly who lost her mate in battle. To show her grief, she took off her beautiful wings and wrapped herself in a drab cocoon. In her sadness, she could not eat and she could not sleep and her relatives kept coming to her lodge to see if she was okay.
Of course she wasn't, but she didn't want to be a burden on her people so she packed up her wings and her medicine bundle and took off on a long journey. She wandered about for many days and months, until finally she had gone all around the world.
On her journey she kept her eyes downcast and stepped on each stone she came to as she crossed fields and creeks and streams. Finally, one day as she was looking down, she happened to notice the stone beneath her feet, and it was so beautiful that it healed her sorrow.
She then cast aside her cocoon, shook the dust from her wings, and donned them once more. She was so happy she began to dance to give thanks for another chance to begin her life anew. Then she went home and told The People about her long journey and how it had healed her.
To this day,The People dance this dance as an expression of renewal, and to give thanks for new seasons, new life, and new beginnings.
The shawl in the Fancy Shawl Dance represents the butterfly's wings, the fancy steps and twirls represent the butterfly's style of flight. This is another reason you will sometimes hear the Fancy Shawl Competition Dance referred to as " the butterfly dance."

Thank you for Sharing as we have some of her dolls she made in the museum..
Ya' at' eeh (hello)
My name is Fannie Kee.
I am 87 years old.
I was born on May 4th, 1933
underneath a juniper tree.
I am a Navajo from a community south of Gallup New Mexico called Red Rocks
(Tse Lichii)
My clans are Tsi' na' agjiinii
(Black Sheep Forest People),
born for Ta ' chiinii
(Red Running Into Water).
How did I start making dolls?
When I was a teenager my grandmother, Lilly Morgan Pete, encouraged me to learn how to make dolls.
I learned how to make dolls from watching and observing my grandma.
My grandma did all her sewing by hand and that's how I learned how to sew.
My adoptive mother always told me
"T'aa hwo' aji t' eego"
That's a Navajo saying meaning
"if it is to be, it is up to me".
They always said if I learned how to make dolls that I would have money and it will help me support my family in the future when I become a parent.
Now, many years later I have made thousands of dolls and sold them all over.

He is the son of Coni (Lemke), a photographer, and Joseph Momoa, a painter. His father is of Native Hawaiian and Samoan descent; and his mother, who is from Iowa, is of German, Irish, and Native American ancestry. His interest in biology led him to take classes at a community college in Des Moines, Iowa, before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he waited tables. He later moved to back to Hawaii to reconnect with his father and enrolled in the University of Hawaiiโ€™s marine biology program. Japanese-born American international fashion designer Takeo Kobayashi discovered Momoa, then aged 19, and encouraged him to pursue a modeling career. Momoa left the university and worked briefly in that industry before landing his first acting role, as a young lifeguard in the television series Baywatch: Hawaii.
Momoa was cast in his first leading role in a major motion picture in 2010, as the title character in Conan the Barbarian (2011). However, it was his turn as Khal Drogo, the fierce leader of the Dothraki people, during the first two seasons of HBOโ€™s blockbuster television series Game of Thrones (2011โ€“19) that captured the attention of Hollywood directors. In 2014 American director Zack Snyder cast Momoa in the role of Aquaman (a half-human, half-Atlantean being who possesses the powers to manipulate water and communicate with marine animals). Although the film Aquaman was not released until 2018, Momoa appeared in the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), two other other Snyder-directed films based on the DC Comics franchise. He was later cast as the legendary swordsman Duncan Idaho in Canadian film director Denis Villeneuveโ€™s adaptation of Frank Herbertโ€™s novel Dune (2021). During the same period, Momoa continued to act in television series: he played the ex-convict Phillip Kopus in The Red Road (2014โ€“15), the fur-trading outlaw Declan Harp in Frontier (2016โ€“18), and Baba Voss, the chief of the Alkenny, in See (2019โ€“ ).

''He was born Floyd Westerman on the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation, home of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, a federally recognized tribe that is one of the sub-tribes of the Eastern Dakota section of the Great Sioux Nation, located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. His Indigenous name Kanghi Duta means "Red Crow" in the Dakota language (which is one of the three related Siouan languages of the Great Plains).
At the age of 10, Westerman was sent to the Wahpeton Boarding School, where he first met Dennis Banks (who as an adult became a leader of the American Indian Movement). There Westerman and the other children were forced to cut their traditionally long hair and forbidden to speak their native languages. This experience would profoundly impact Westerman's development and entire life. As an adult, he reclaimed his heritage and became an outspoken advocate for Indigenous cultural preservation.
Westerman graduated from Northern State University with a B.A. degree in secondary education. He served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps, before beginning his career as a country singer.

Midthunder developed an interest in acting as a child, where she would memorize and recite lines from her favorite shows, but disliked her first experience in the job, leading her to take some time before another performance, even considering a career in make-up, where she worked as an intern, or mixed martial arts, having trained and taught Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Her first credit was in 2008's Sunshine Cleaning. Midthunder proceeded to work in various productions filmed in New Mexico, before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue more acting opportunities. She starred as Naru in Prey, the fifth installment of the Predator franchise. She was widely praised for her performance. In 2022, Midthunder received the Breakthrough Performance Award as part of the Saturn Awards and a Critics' Choice Awards nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

Missed the first 20 minutes of the party dedicated to the end of filming of his new movie at one of the clubs in New York.
He waited patiently in the rain to be let in.
No one recognized him.
You may have been born a man, but stay a man..
