On Jazzed today, our Spotlight Artist of the Week is jazz bassist, composer and band leader Marc Johnson. He has released 10 solo albums. However, in my opinion, some of his best music has come from his collaboration as a sideman. He was in the final Bill Evans Trio prior to Evans' passing, and has worked with guitarist Pat Martino and pianists Enrico Pieranunzi and Lyle Mays. We'll hear music from all those artists today as we listen to a sampling of the career of Marc Johnson. I hope you can tune in...and spread the word!

Today marks the 300th episode of Jazzed! That’s quite a milestone, and I have no thoughts of slowing down. I love jazz, as I hope is evident, and I thoroughly appreciate you sharing this journey with me. On this 300th episode, our Spotlight Artist is the great alto saxophonist Charlie Parker. I hope you can tune in...and spread the word!

Today on Jazzed is another edition of First Monday Live. The first Monday of each month is devoted to live, mostly unreleased jazz concert recordings. On today’s show, I’m going offer up a combination of unreleased and commercially released live recordings to spotlight the career of bassist Alphonso Johnson, who celebrated his 73rd birthday on Friday. We'll hear music from his time with Weather Report, his 1988 tour with Carlos Santana & Wayne Shorter, and his work with drummer Billy Cobham & keyboardist George Duke. I hope you can tune in...and spread the word!

On Jazzed today, our Spotlight Artist of the Week is vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa. I discovered her recently when I listened to saxophonist Joshua Redman's latest release, which features her unique vocal stylings. On today's episode, we'll listen to music from that release by Joshua Redman, as well as a few from Cavassa's 2020 debut album. In addition, I'll be playing songs from other musicians she collaborated with over the past several years, including singers Seth Somni, Kari Kirkland and Robin McKelle; saxophonists Braxton Cook and Tia Fuller; and composer and percussionist Michelle Welchons. I hope you can tune in...and spread the word!

On Jazzed today, our Spotlight Artist of the Week is pianist Les McCann, who passed away late last month at the age of 88. In 1969, Atlantic released Swiss Movement, an album recorded with saxophonist Eddie Harris earlier at that year's Montreux Jazz Festival. The album reached the Billboard pop charts, increasing McCann's popularity substantially. We'll listen to music from several of Les McCann's solo albums, as well as his work as a sideman on albums by organist Richard Groove Holmes and tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. I hope you can tune in...and spread the word!

Today on Jazzed is another edition of First Monday Live. The first Monday of each month is devoted to live, mostly unreleased jazz concert recordings from my personal archive. On today's show, we'll hear live sets from pianist Dave Brubeck and his sons, guitarist Joe Pass, guitarist Pat Martino with organist Joey DeFrancesco, and a great 1972 jam session with Charlie McPherson on alto sax, Buddy Tate on tenor sax, Jimmy Owens on trumpet, Cat Anderson on trumpet, Milt Bruckner on organ and Charles Mingus on bass. You've got to hear that! I hope you can tune in...and spread the word!
