Tucson native Aaron DeFeo is most associated with his role as Casino
Del Sol Resort’s resident property mixologist, where he ran the beverage program for over six years until leaving at the end of 2017. Most recently, DeFeo moved to Phoenix and joined forces with Bitter & Twisted’s Ross Simon to create Little Rituals, a 70-seat reimagining of the hotel bar concept, boasting sweeping views of the Downtown Phoenix nightlife in a dark, intimate lounge setting perfect for both the business traveler, as well as a local’s night out.
Renowned for his imaginative use of natural and locally-sourced ingredients, DeFeo’s cocktails have earned him multiple local and national accolades. Most recently, DeFeo won the 2014 & 2017 World Margarita Championship in Tucson, AZ, and the 2013 Woodford Reserve Manhattan Experience Arizona competition with his interpretation of the classic Manhattan. He is also a two-time national finalist for GQ’s Most Imaginative Bartender Competition, and in 2013 was named the Arizona Restaurant Association’s “Mixologist of the
Year”, and a finalist in 2015 for both Mixologist of the Year & Top Beverage Program.
A passionate advocate of creative mixology, DeFeo holds more than 17 years of experience and has been credited with elevating Arizona’s cocktail culture. His creations blend familiar spirits with unexpected flavors, creating an extraordinary flavor experience. He has also been an assistant producer for Arizona Cocktail Week.
During his career, DeFeo has competed in more than 25 national and international competitions and has been featured in several publications, including Nightclub & Bar Magazine, The Tasting Panel, Imbibe Magazine, The Los Angeles Times and FoxNews.com. He is also a contributing writer for WineInquirer.com, Nightclub.com and Savor Magazine.
In his role as Resort Mixologist at Casino Del Sol Resort, he oversaw a staff of 50 bartenders at 9 restaurants, bars and venues. Prior to joining the casino resort, DeFeo served as a bartender and beverage manager in some of Arizona’s most popular nightclubs and restaurants including The Cup Cafe, Club Congress and Maynard’s Market and Kitchen.
DeFeo earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and is certified B.A.R. Ready. He is also a Society of Wine Educators Certified Spirits Specialist. He holds the Spirits Professional distinction from the United
States Bartenders’ Guild (where he is the founder and president of the Tucson chapter) and often holds classes on the fine art of cocktail creation for industry professionals and the public.

Mandi has coined a term she calls “business bedside manner.” To Mandi, the “hospitality” in the hospitality industry shouldn’t just describe the products and services being sold, but the entire culture of how business is conducted. Oftentimes, leaders within the industry won’t hesitate to go above and beyond for the sake of the guest, pushing the boundaries of what it means to be patient and accommodating. The limits of that patience are usually a lot lower when dealing with fellow vendors, coworkers, or industry professionals.

In 2011 Margaret launched the Kitchen Chat® podcast,
from her kitchen as a way to honor her late father who was an outstanding home chef. She wanted to understand what his joy of food and cooking was all about. After 300 interviews with chefs, cookbook authors, and culinary experts, she finally understands. The joy is about the connections and conversations that we have in the kitchen as well as the achievement of cooking that seemingly impossible recipe and then sharing it with family and friends.

What an honor and “hug from heaven” to be welcomed into and recognized by the culinary industry. In March 2020, Kitchen Chat® will be inducted into the Taste Awards Hall of Fame for its significant contribution to the culinary broadcast media. In 2017, she became a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier, a prestigious group of women in the culinary field. In 2016, she was awarded Member of the Year for International Association of Culinary Professionals. It’s an honor to be a consultant with several top-tier kitchen and lifestyle brands and to host high profile events in the culinary, entertainment and business verticals. In 2018, she became Chicago’s Ambassador for Women’s Entrepreneurship Day. I share this to encourage you to pursue your dreams and passions too, no matter what age or stage.

On the Rocks, a narrative nonfiction book written by Maria Costanzo Palmer and Ruthie Robbins, chronicles the journey of personality Joseph Costanzo, Jr. in his rise to success in the 1990’s as world renowned restaurateur and owner of The Primadonna Restaurant, radio host, columnist, and aspiring politician through his sharp fall ending in an investigation and a stint in federal prison in the early 2000’s. Voted one of America’s top restaurateurs by The International Restaurant and Hospitality Rating Bureau, Costanzo is arguably the greatest restaurateur of his generation. Through his marketing genius and innovation, he took a neighborhood restaurant in a tough steel town in McKees Rocks, PA and turned it into a nationally recognized eatery featured in Pl***oy Magazine and The New York Daily News.

Regardless of whether a reader has ever dined at The Primadonna, visited Pittsburgh, or heard of Joe Costanzo, On the Rocks is a relatable story. Neither a chef nor an entrepreneur, postal carrier Joseph Costanzo, Jr.’s relentless determination propels him to extraordinary success and distinction with his restaurant; however, this underdog story does not end there. Former competitive bodybuilder turned gourmet plant-based chef, Nina Curtis says she decided to overhaul her diet about 20 years ago after realizing her body “didn’t want animal-based protein” anymore.

“I had to break up with salmon because it was already breaking up with me! I listened to my body. And started studying everything I could find to better understand the connection between nutrition and how the body works,” she explained in a blog post. “I became my own lab, experimenting with different fruits and vegetables, and found I could increase my lifting and my recovery time by living a plant-based lifestyle.”

Curtis earned her MBA from Pepperdine University and a plant-based nutrition certification from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutritional Studies at Cornell. Curtis has a rather extensive vegan culinary resume. She worked in established venues such as The Ranch in Malibu, Pure Food and Wine in New York, the Springs Restaurant and Wine Bar in Los Angeles, the Marriott Group, and Hilton Hotels. Now, she is the director and executive chef of Adventist Health. The faith-based, nonprofit integrated health system has locations in more than 80 communities in Hawaii and on the West Coast.
