BAT HANDPRINTS 🦇 The weather is getting cooler and Halloween is almost here 🍂🍁 so I’m sharing this adorable Halloween bat handprint craft today. 🦇 Here’s what you need: -Black and white cardstock -Googly eyes -Glue Cut out the handprints. Trace around a bowl or small container to make a circle and cut it out. Glue the handprints to the back. Cut out 2 black triangles for the ears and 2 white triangles for the teeth. PAPER ROLL MOVING ANT MAZE 🐜 🍎 🍏 Another adorable craft from my NEW BOOK - Cut & Color Crafts for kids. 😍 Link is in my profile. ❤️ Kids can cut out and color the ant maze, then glue to a paper roll. I just used a piece of plastic storage bag, taped together to make the moving part. Then taped the ant to it. Now you can add this into the paper roll to move up and down. PAINT MADE FROM SALT 🧂 😮 This is a really fun process art activity if you haven’t tried it yet. You just need salt 🧂, hot water and dark cardstock. Watching the salt paint dry is also a fun science experiment 🧪 Here’s what you need: Table salt 🧂 (course salt also works but is more crystallized and less white) Hot water 💦 Dark cardstock (note - it cannot be coated paper or it will repel the paint and won’t dry as nicely. If when you paint it looks like it’s running off the paper then it’s coated and try another paper brand). To make the paint: Add 1 tablespoon of table salt to a small bowl. Add 3 tablespoons of hot water to the bowl. *Adults to assist with this* Mix until the salt is mostly all dissolved. Now you can paint! 🎨 Let your painting dry for 24 hours. The water will evaporate and you’ll be left with salt only on your paper! ICE ART 🧊 🌈 Who else is experiencing the polar vortex 🥶 ?! It’s freezing here, so why not make frozen art! 😍😅 This is a really fun process art activity if you haven’t tried it yet. My freezer is cold so when I painted on the ice the paint froze as I went. If you have a warmer house the ice may melt as you paint but it still creates a really cool painting experience. Here’s what you need: A container to freeze water in Watercolor paint 🎨 How to: Freeze water in your container overnight. This is a fun way to make an Easter egg. 🥚 Kids can trace the design or draw their own with glue. We did a leaf back in the fall and thought butterflies 🦋 would be fun for spring! ☀️ Here’s what you need: - Paper clip - String - Tissue paper - Tape - butterfly template (on my site search butterfly template on thebestideasforkids.com) - Magnet wand 🧲 How to do it: Tie the string around the paper clip and then glue inside the tissue paper butterfly. Tape the string to the table and then use a magnet 🧲 to make your butterflies float! Tip: slowly move the magnet away from the leaf when you’re starting to get it to float. SALAD SPINNER ART ⭐️❤️💙 This has to be one of the most fun art activities I have done - seriously if your kids love to help spin the salad spinner then you have to try this process art! I picked up a cheap new salad spinner for this activity. Cut small squares of cardstock. Then add some drops of paint 🎨 onto the paper. I used neon red and blue. And I also used more red than blue so that it would be the dominant color. Then the fun part 🤩- spin! You can play with how much spinning you do and the different effects it will make. SIDEWALK CHALK PAINT 🎨 🌈🤩 Making your own sidewalk chalk paint is easy - and a perfect use for all of the little bits and pieces that are too hard to draw with! 🙌 Ingredients * 2 tbsp cornstarch * 2 tbsp water If not painting well enough, add 1 extra tablespoon of water and mix in * 1/2 tbsp sidewalk chalk Or 1/2 a piece of chalk Add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch into a measuring cup. Add 2 tablespoons of water into the cup and mix. Note: if you find the paint does not paint well, add an additional tablespoon of water. Grate sidewalk chalk to get approx 1/2 tablespoon of chalk. Add it into the cup or the muffin tin and then mix with the cornstarch and water. If you would rather not grate the chalk, place the chalk pieces into a ziploc bag and bang with a rolling pin until it turns into a similar consistency. Repeat for each color you’d like to make. This sidewalk chalk paint will make one muffin cup of paint. If you want to fill your muffin tin you will need to repeat the recipe for each color. You can also double or triple the recipe and make a larger batch and then split it into smaller containers and add the sidewalk chalk in last to save time. #summercrafts #summeractivities #kidscrafts #kidsactivities
FIREWORKS IN A JAR 🎇 A surprise 🤩 science activity perfect for the 4th of July 🎆 How to do it: ✨ Add vegetable oil into a bowl. You do not need a lot. A little more oil will show the difference in density slightly better for kids. Add 3-4 drops of food coloring (water based food coloring is needed and we used McCormick brand) for each color you want to add. We used red and blue coloring. You can use any colors you’d like but we would recommend no more than 3 as the colors will mix quickly and will make it harder to see them dropping down. Fill a jar 3/4 full with water 💦 Add the oil into the water. Now wait and see all of the little drops start to come down from the oil (making “fireworks”). ✨ Because oil is less dense than water it floats on top of the water and the food coloring which is water based drops down creating a firework like reaction as it drops. . The Science 🧪 Oil and water do not mix. Oil is less dense than water and floats on top of the water. Food coloring is water-based so it mixes with the water. When you add the food coloring to the oil it will not mix. Once you add the oil to the water, the food colored droplets start to drop down since they are heavier than the oil.
