Congratulations to Don DeBat, a finalist for a Peter Lisagor Award for exemplary journalism. Don appears in print for Inside Publications and online for Loop North News.

His nomination was for a column last November about Chicago’s challenges as a sanctuary city. The column is a snapshot of the problem, capturing the enormous financial cost of helping the migrants and the frustrations of Chicagoans at that time.

Award recipients will be announced on May 10.

While struggling to house, feed, and care for thousands of immigrants, Mayor Johnson faces a tsunami of problems that likely will drive up real estate taxes for every Chicagoan and make him a one-term mayor.
