hi! this is a nerdy appreciation post for in upstate new york, where i was just at this weekend, with my haul of 54 apples (10 different varieties!!) and an even deeper love for the apple world after 2 fantastic hours of apple hunting 🥹

i love, love, love apple picking, but half the time, i feel like I don’t know what I’m picking exactly?? but they’ve clearly spent a lot of time mapping out the farm for visitors - what’s ripe, what’s not ready, where what is. also I’m a sucker for illustrated maps. but my favorite thing was the little descriptors they put for each apple variety, a bit of fun history, and more importantly: what they’re best used for, for maximum enjoyment 🤌

also devoured two fresh apple cider donuts while brainstorming what to do with these apples - any suggestions? ✍️ and yes, will absolutely make some tarte aux pommes with this super tart caville blanc d’hiver.

currently in a food coma but hi from my favorite !! 👋 here to share some of my top food highlights so far:

1 & 2: the iconic taiwan railway bento, the taste of nostalgia, and a pork chop so big my chopsticks were really struggling

3. the braised pork rice, pork knuckle and cuttlefish rice noodles at huang ji braised pork 🤌 no need to go to jin feng for a meal that’s equally as satisfying

4. literally went to the night market just to get this bowl of boba and taro/sweet potato balls over ice at 九份芋圓

5 & 6. ultimate breakfast at fu hang soy milk, and the joy it brings, even with the 45min wait 🫠 the fantuan was also fire

7. my first bite in , steaming hot black pepper bun at raohe night market that I ripped into so fast, my tongue died- sorry for the terrible photo

8. don’t sleep on !!!!! this was only $5 i—

9 & 10. these pineapple buns baked fresh at raohe night market, served with a slice cold butter, hk-style. the crust is crispier, the bun is fluffier/lighter - makes for a phenomenal bite

i remember staying at the namba oriental hotel just 2 minutes away from this takoyaki stall over a decade ago. every night, my brother and i would order a dozen of these, and devour them as fast as we could. one, because they’re that good yes, but also mostly so we could claim more balls as our own, even if it meant burning our mouths half the time. siblings, you know 🙄

now i get them all to myself. can’t break the habit of eating them fast, and oof it burns, but they taste just as good as i remember them to be 🌝

just want to share a realistic portrayal of what i ate this past week of being too sick to cook properly + some post recovery meals:

1. scallop ginger congee with meat floss
2. bagel with a smidge of cream cheese
3 & 4. Beef noodle soup from
5. an extremely veggie forward 3 minute wrap
6. reheated congee with sad spinach
7. some seolleongtang instant ramen because I’ll take any soup
8. recovering with avocado spinach chickpea pasta for some creamy but healthy
9 & 10. and a hearty use-up-my-refrigerator-veggies bibimbap situation

i get asked a lot about what i do when i’m not making content, and honestly? most of the time, i’m just trying to make sure my soul is happy.

it’s a hard balance, trying to keep a level state of mind in this game that rewards numbers over caliber. but that, is the reality of this world. and as important as it is to keep moving with the wave, it’s my safe harbors and anchors that help me keep going, when i’m ready to.

- kaya toast 2.0 with more hainanese kaya jam, more butter (ice cold), half boiled eggs + white pepper + soy sauce
- greek yogurt and plum preserves, with orange zest, tart cherries and chopped walnuts
- homemade matcha and chocolate cookie crunch
- fancy smoked salmon toast, the micro greens and edible flowers did all the work here
- greek yogurt and unicorn garden jam, gold kiwi, gentle dust of gold flakes, drizzle of honey

ok can i just say, that the food scene in orlando is actually… incredible??! i feel like i never got to experience the city beyond its iconic theme parks, but my most recent food-centric trip has seriously, shown me a whole new world.

here’s what i ate in 24 hours:

- started the day with desserts , including but not limited to an ube-cream covered ube brownie, a gorgeous halo halo that was larger than the size of my face, and... basically a sampling of every ice cream flavor they had, because everything looked so perfect?? the soy sauce butterscotch and keso guava cheesecake were 🤌🤌 they even had a pineapple cake flavor!

- this gigantic grilled squid served with a homemade jalapeño green sauce by chef huong, who seriously puts so much heart and thought into her restaurant. fr, this sauce was so good (the ideal tangy sweet), i actually ended up bringing some home. it's sitting in my fridge right now, but not for long 🌝

- yakitori, craft cocktails and more light bites at what is now maybe my favorite restaurant in orlando - . i only had two days in the city but i still went here twice 🙃 the chicken oysters and the karaage are insane. also, that crunch on the karaage 😩👌

- omakase!! in orlando!!! kind of love the on-the-go standing sushi concept , and that we got to pick which ones we wanted specifically. also, the energy in here was fantastic 🔥

there's so much more beyond what you see here too - like how i became obsessed with the coffee and croffles etc... truly, thank you and everyone i got to meet at these locations for introducing me to the many sides of orlando we’ve never known before. the entire experience was seriously, Unbelievably Real 😌 next time you’re in the city, now you know!!!

i’ve been feeling a little melancholy lately. or maybe it’s nostalgia? i’m not sure what it is.

maybe it’s because of my recent travels. of finally returning to places i’ve called home after many years, only to realize the meaning of home has shifted, and there’s a strangeness that comes with what was once familiar. there are things i miss that i’ll never be able to find again, and this urge to fill that emptiness, but maybe that, is what evokes this feeling of… saudade.

…anyways, I guess the first pic is also proof that bread has always been there for me.

hello to these creamy deviled eggs, but make it ~cute~ 🌝 best thing about these baby chicks is that i actually repurposed decorated easter eggs to make them 🤫 getting two uses out of these eggs means double the fun, you know, there's really no substitution for the amount of joy they bring me heh. and this flavor!!! a little bit of miso and some kewpie also made these 😩👌 eggstra creamy.

I’ve been pretty nervous about finally saying this out loud, but here we are. After 5 years , I’ve made the decision to move onto the next chapter of my life. A lot of thoughts, emotions, feelings, maybe some tears, because change is terrifying!!! But with discomfort comes growth, and maybe that’s a good thing.

I’ll forever be grateful for what was maybe the most eventful five years of my life, for the brilliant people I got to work with, and for everyone who took a chance on me.

7 years ago, when I came to Paris for the first time, I stumbled upon this little sandwich shop called mmmozza..!

A small line was beginning to form. Locals, it seemed, people who were looking for a quick bite on their lunch break, with too little time to sit down, but enough to wait in line, unwilling to compromise the promise of a good meal.

I couldn’t understand the menu, but the quality of the ingredients in the window display spoke a language I knew. So I got in line, with my giant backpack strapped to my chest, trying not to panic when it was my turn to order. Somehow, between my broken French and wild attempts at gesturing, I ended up with what I still consider, to be the best sandwich I’ve ever had.

Here I am once again, seven years later, my first stop off the plane, absolutely exhilarated!! to see that it’s still here, to finally relive an experience I’ve sought after over the years, and to learn that my favorite sandwich place in Paris is actually, somewhat Italian.

All to say, while there may well be many other fantastic sandwich shops out there, this one, will always be the place that made me fall heads over heels in love with baguette sandwiches. 🫶
