I’m working on a documentary right now, and just flashed back to a series I sound designed and mixed in the mid-90s called Signal to Noise: Your Life with Television. I was really young at the time, but I find the discussions in this show about news and how what we consume is controlled and contrived are even more relevant now than when this was created.

It was such a pleasure handling ADR in NYC for this film written and directed by Jennifer Esposito (who also stars in it) for our friends at Another Country. She was a blast to work with, and the movie seems very intense! Set in a 1980s Italian household in Staten Island, it reminded me of my own teenage years. Minus all the violence and mob stuff.

Can’t wait to see this in theaters!

Wow. Whenever I hear this track, it puts me right back to the moment we produced it.

A very late night at the now long-defunct Home Base Studios in NYC. Bankie Banx had this great track- just him and his acoustic. But my 21 year old, recent sound recording graduate brain had ideas! We doubled and triple tracked vocal moments. I played a pan flute patch and added some pads. I suggested some deep, octave layers on the vocal and even some whispers/ breathy bits.

As soon as I hear this, it puts me in the control room with Bankie and Wini Atkinson, and I’m a fearless, fun loving young audio geek.
