Happy New Year Fishing Family! Somebody gave me the flu for Christmas. I would have been fine with a chunk of coal, but NO...here, have some snot! 😅 I wasn't going to let that stop me from starting out the New Year on the right foot! Our water levels were a little elevated here in Middle Tennessee, and we are on the leading edge of a cold front, so I definitely wanted to get out today and try and learn something new about the weather patterns effects on winter creek fishing. The old custom "RainShadow" from KCustomRods was needing a little love today so I brought her along for the journey. I'm sure she was smiling on the way home based on that flex in the picture. Whenever I'm walking through the creeks fishing, I'm always on the lookout for any artifacts. I'm trying to figure out if these fragments are pieces of Native American pottery. I know the Cherokee used a method called coiling to make their pots, and they cured the insides with fire to waterproof them. What do you think it is? Old pottery or newer flower pots? The larger fragment looks like it was spun on a wheel, but it's irregular. The smaller fragment definitely has wood fragments mixed in with the clay.

What is your winter creek fishing "go-to" bait? Me personally, it's the hellgrammite. I have been testing out this version from NedWacky.com. It's a small slender bait profile, and the bass seem to love it! I can fish this from December until March with no problems at all.

Those creek smallies are still putting up a good fight this winter. They were definitely giving the old Green Machine by a good workout. Look at that fishing rod flexing it's muscles!

I'm going to have to say that winter creek fishing is probably the toughest thing that I have tried to figure out, when it comes to fishing. I want to say a BIG Thank You to KCustomRods and NedWacky for making the task at hand a little easier. 🙏❤️ I have always been told that creeks shut down in the winter, but that is not totally accurate. A more accurate explanation is that the fish that stay behind consolidate only to specify wintering holes throughout the creeks. Now the bigger question is how to locate those special pockets. Let me know if you have this information!! 😁

Winter creek fishing is on! I can't lie, I have been working overtime trying to figure out where these creek smallies have moved to this winter, but my determination paid off today! I finally found a winter haunt that was holding some bigger smallies, and they were hungry for these NedWacky baits! I think they approve!! Lastly, it was nice to finally land some heavier smallies in winter on my newer ultralight from KCustomRods. I can feel these smallies sniffing of my lure. 😉It's satisfying when all the puzzle pieces finally come together. Today was a 100% hookup ratio with no lost fish.
