21° and North Winds Didn’t Stop the Creek Smallies! ❄️🎣
Today’s adventure had 21° temps and 10–15 mph winds out of the North, making for a chilly creek hike. I pushed back to a deep pocket and was able to coax two solid bites using the 3.5" NedWacky Battle Bug on a Ned Rig.
Creek fishing this time of year is tough, but the only way to truly learn is to get out there and give it a try. Every bite, every missed fish, and every frozen finger is part of the lesson. Winter smallies aren’t easy, but when you find them, it’s worth it.

I had to share this one, y’all — AI-generated thumbnails never disappoint when it comes to giving me a good laugh. 😂
Just so everyone knows, I still mock up and edit my own thumbnails, but AI can be super helpful when you’re missing a little editing knowledge… or when you just need some entertainment.
Here’s a perfect example:
AI Angler Ned looks like he packed on 50 pounds over Thanksgiving, chugged three coffees and a Red Bull, and then decided to hit the creek. Meanwhile, my actual thumbnail is at least kinda close — and I’ve gotta admit, I appreciate the “thinker” eyebrows it gave me.
These comparisons always crack me up!

Chilly creek wade this morning! ❄️
It was 26° at sunrise, so I had to give the temperature a couple hours to creep above freezing before jumping in. As expected this time of year, the bite was slow — it seems like every season the initial cool-down into December really shuts the creek fish down. But once they acclimate, the bite usually picks back up toward the end of the month.
Even with the soft bites today, the NedWacky Mini Tube still convinced a quality creek smallie to commit. Cold legs are just part of the deal if you want to chase creek bass through the winter… and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My KCustomFishingRod continues to shine — ultralight creek fishing at its finest.
Can’t wait to see how the bite evolves as we push deeper into December. Stay warm and tight lines! 🎣❄️
