Sometimes the best days come when you least expect them!
I ran down to the creek this afternoon with temps in the mid-40s and dropping fast into the low 20s tonight. It was overcast, drizzling, and honestly, I didn’t expect much — I didn’t even bother bringing my tripod or second camera because I figured the conditions would be terrible to film.
But man, was I wrong. It turned out to be the best two hours of cold-water fishing I’ve had this season! The big fish were stacked up and feeding hard. We had heavy flooding Friday night, and I think today was the first real window since the water started pulling back that the smallmouth really fired up again.
The water level was right on the edge of being safe to wade, but I made it work. The KCustomFishingRod got a serious workout, and the NedWacky Helgamonsta in Radio Active Pumpkin absolutely crushed them when paired with a 1/8 oz Z-Man Flashback Mini Chatterbait.
It just goes to show — you never really know what kind of day it’s going to be until you get out there.
